Mike Eden? Sure. There have been others too. Here's a few others that come straight to mind Jared waerea-hargreaves, Jack Elsegood, Ivan Cleary, etc, etc. I think the point Woodsie was making was that both Bozo and Fatty, just like DCE now, were former Manly captains.
Thompson is a big in but I don’t think they are THAT much better off than us…Yep and with Thompson in bound for 26, Pahulu this year if they pull it off, there adding quality to their roster. I’d be happy to see us adding players of that caliber to our roster and while our roster may have improved, it is no way improving inline with the Dogs.
Ciraldo knows the Riffs blue print and with Gus they are building a side to play that competitive, grinding, up tempo footy. I can seem them continuing to move away from us in terms of becoming a top 4 side with a genuine shot at a premiership in the not to distant future, sadly I can’t say the same for us.
Zero issues for me , we can throw the bank at him if you like , but remember , if we do that , there can be no whinges about not buying superstars to fill in our shortcomings.I’ve thought about it and my arm’s well and truly cocked with the mother of all piggy banks…if we let him walk over an additional year because of a number on a birth certificate, we are idiots.
Souths played hardball with Reynolds and he played in a GF, whilst Souths missed the 8, eventually lost their coach and narrowly avoided the spoon. If he plays like a million dollar half, pay him to do so.
Preston is a good player. They hurt, local juniors playing elsewhere in a position we are a little weak in.Thompson is a big in but I don’t think they are THAT much better off than us…
They have a more youthful and mobile forward pack but King is similar to Paseka in impact and Thompson will essentially be their Guac…
Crichton is world-class and they have a much better 9 than us…
We have a much better fullback and I would take our halves combination any day… personally I reckon (Crichton aside) our outside backs are better (although Garrick is out of position)…
what we really need is a couple of Preston / Weak-gutted-dog style forwards that are smart / mobile and defend well… I have really been hoping that Burbo and maybe the duck would step-up but that is yet to happen so maybe MCK or even a modified Talau could be options…
I think we have the bones of a very good side and a bit of fine-tuning will see us being top-4 or better…
I find myself agreeing with Bozo.Under Seibold
This player ( See photo Below) he was on a minimum contract and was performing accordingly
Now Under a Superior coach he is now a dominant player in his Match Winning contributions in an understrength team that is missing players like their inspirational captain Murray and their Match Winning Fullback Latrell . In his teams first win he set up their winning try and in his teams second win he kicked a pressure winning field goal .
This Talented and Valuable Utility player is equally at home in the halves and hooker and also played at lock with distinction in the trials
But What does our Head coach Seibold do ?
He sees better value in the Warriors discard Jazz Tevaga and rewards him a top 30 spot instead of
The player below
Head coaches play a role on what players they pick in their team and how they play the game
This is why they are accountable for their teams results

His New Head coach is getting better Value out of him

I love Preston as a player… all effort… but I did notice he was making some ineffective tackles against the tits last weekend… maybe it was just an off week (or maybe I don’t watch him as closely as Burbo 😉)Preston is a good player. They hurt, local juniors playing elsewhere in a position we are a little weak in.

What’s going on?
Maybe it’s not so much the talent they have v what we have, it’s the way they play their footy and how they recruit to improve their overall game inline with the current version of what it takes to be competitive. Our approach of playing a large pack, signing lumbering and aging forwards, extending also rans, isn’t the recipe for success these days, we seem stuck in a time warp, re our recruitment and I know there’s a lot more to it, but if there are problems and there are, we don’t seem to get it.Thompson is a big in but I don’t think they are THAT much better off than us…

The Humphreys decision is a bit of a head scratcher. As per Bozo's post he can cover a number of positions and I think should have been valued in front of Arthur, Wakeham, Matterson, Simpkin, Waddell (maybe Tevaga). I didn't like it at eh time and I like it less now.
Similarly, Kaeo Weekes. I understand they had to make some decisions and we already had Turbo, Koula to cover his positions however he was always picked for junior NSW rep teams so his class was evident. Where did we play him? Against a rampant Panthers at 5/8 otherwise off the bench and some time at dummy half. I was really hoping he would be a 'dud' after he left us but he is playing very well for the Raiders and is electric.
Agree… I was a massive Weekes fan and thought he was the messiah… he has been good at the Faders but not to the point where I am rotten he left…I have both Weekes and Humphries in my Supercoach team ... so I watch them intently ...
Last week ... as a fullback in a winning side ... Weekes scored 21 points ... 34 points the week before ... these are abysmal figures for a fullback ... ... he will have his highlight moments ... but well off the pace of other fullbacks ... may do better in the halves.
Last week Humprey's as a goal kicking halfback scored 67 points and 55 the week before ... very ordinary figures for a halfback ... good player but has demonstrated the creativity of a turnip ... will also have his highlight moments
Nothing like using Supercoach points to try and justify why we made the right decision letting guys goI have both Weekes and Humphries in my Supercoach team ... so I watch them intently ...

Not sure why these guys like Humphreys and Weekes are essentially death-ridden on here, some struggle to accept that maybe we do have some problems with recruitment/retention and will pick out any holes in these early-20s players like they are already finished products. I'm sure Raiders and Souths fans are pretty happy with their purchases and even more pleased with their 2 wins to start the year against more favoured opponents. All while we're getting blown out by the Warriors and showing off our same old attitude and fitness issues we've had in recent years, with our own halfback over 12 years older than these guys holding us out for a bit more cash..
Dogs are not keen on Pahulu any longer they pulled their offer on him.Yep and with Thompson in bound for 26, Pahulu this year if they pull it off, there adding quality to their roster. Third best defence but agree with everything you suggest. Not sure if you actually watched the game, but what you should have seen is a team getting soundly beaten until a very lucky escape.
One team has a senior, "star-studded", playing group that has been together for many seasons, whilst the Canterbury team has been put together less than two seasons ago with a relatively average list in comparison.
Their rise is remarkable.
They finished higher than us on the ladder, they were the second best defensive unit all year, and they play tougher in all aspects of the game. They are a better footy team, despite the highlight reel, and they are still trending up
ive always said that the reasons we don’t buy superstars are (a) they don’t wanna come to Manly and (b) we’ve already got them on the books. I’ve never been one to cry foul about a lack of big signing. Get DCE over the line Manly!Zero issues for me , we can throw the bank at him if you like , but remember , if we do that , there can be no whinges about not buying superstars to fill in our shortcomings.
By the way this applies to Turbo / Jurbo as well , when their contracts come up we need to be sharper as well.
Personally I think Daly will want to stay at Manly , he may well have a future on coaching , and you can bet he’ll have a future at Fox Sports plus he loves living on the beaches.
But , if another team offered him 3 million for two years 🤷🤷🤷🤷
Choc could be right, good to read that he is backing his players, though for a young halve to play first grade the club need a creative number nine, need more from a nine than ball distribution to ease the pressure on young players.![]()
