I feel like ever since this whole Schuster Foran contract ordeal, Schuey is becoming one of the more disliked or criticised guys on this forum. Like damn, people really nitpicking to hate on him and ignoring his good moments and his potential.

His first half was fantastic, created some half chances with his passing, his attacking kicks were pin point and he just looked really dangerous every time he had the ball. His fitness wasn't even a concern. I will agree he went a notch down in the second half. This is his first game at 6 since about 10 months ago as well. People trying to say he shouldn't be our 6. His best games so far in his career have been with him at 6. Josh will only get better with more time there and he will clean up his overplaying and whatnot.

WooHoo!

Gooooooooooooooooooooo Manly!

13+ easy peasy

Lemon Squeezy!

Nice to get a win again. A joy to sit through a game like this, the team comfortably in control and not hoping for a miracle catch up and a fair ref.

Well done to the team.

🙂

@Woodsie Ok, no pressure but what's the best bet for next week? lololololol.

No injuries (edit - except for Lawton), no on reports, 2 points in the win column.

Party on!

Lol Jesus, even when he isn’t playing people can find a way to bag DCE
Yes It Is GIF

I haven't read the whole thread but it was pretty cool to see Saab point to the Manly badge when he was running away (in second gear) to score his try!

I know it's always easier when winning but the team really looked to be full of camaraderie tonight (especially after tries!)

Kicking is one of the responsibilities of a halfback, although it is also a responsibility of a 5/8

Leading/directing attack is the key role of a halfback, and typically (as with manly), the 5/8 is subordinate to the half when it comes to attack

For mine dce and manly would benefit from him wearing the 6 for the rest of the year, and foran should wear the 7. It may be just a number, but I think it was noticeable (and predicted by a few on here) that we looked more natural with ball in hand today. Dce can be the kicker, but Foran nailed his kicks tonight too.

It just makes sense, I don’t know why dce should be so rigidly fixed to a role that hasn’t neccessarily (or at least consistently) worked since barrett joined us. He was made to be a directing, dominant “thurston” when tbaz arrived, but he’s only been successful next to 5/8’s that take pressure off him and take responsibility directing the attack.

While foz is handy at 5/8, I think making him the main playmaker would prove huge for manly and dce. I think the idea shouldn’t be so taboo/blasphemous either. Just because some people don’t think dce is a suitable/optimal traditional halfback doesn’t mean he’s not a fantastic player. He just needs to be used right, as with all players.

His kicking, as you mentioned, is typically all class. His attack can be too, but not for 80 minutes in a directing type role. He’s more of an opportunist in my opinion, and that’s an extremely valuable trait in a 5/8, like Munster. You can tell Foz likes getting the chance to organise things, that’s likely part of the reason why he went to the Eels. And he won player of the year as dogs halfback, who fell apart completely in attack after he left.
Totally agree !!!!

Yeah I really enjoyed his first half, the soft hands to Davey on numerous occasions show the ability he has as a ball player and that the position does come naturally too him

Happy for him to get a crack at 6, long term though I think that his best spot for us will be in the 13 jumper if that continues to evolve into a 5th spine position, and L Fainu develops as expected

These young Polynesian lads really need to start getting some good advice from old heads before they get into their career, and firstly choosing their management and then keeping the management in line. Schuster and Haas are perfect examples recently, young men whose reputations have suffered harm due to the actions of the vermin representing them. In the Haas situation Tyran Smith should know a hell of a lot better than that

I disagree, Cleary is a better player now than he was 3 years ago.

But each to their own
Yep agree - he’s a better player now. But he was a much more organised and ‘sensible’ player than schu is now. You could see he was made for the role. My point is Schu may not be at his peak but as yet he hasn’t shown signs of maturing and he needs to mature a hell of a lot before he’ll be an effective No6 IMO.

DCE screwed Manly, demanding a hefty contract. Since then we have not seen a grandfinal. Fact
You do realise DCE had agreed to a deal circa 850k, then the club didnt formalise the offer as we decided to focus on Foran.

Foran who had alreadycdecided to move on and strung us along.

Then DCE signed with the GC and we had to pay overs to get him to renege.

If Foran was up front with his intentions, we'd have had DCE on a smaller deal

Cleary is an outlier.

Schuster does need to work on his decision making but we dont want to beat the flair out of him, we dont need him to be a Chad Townsend

Q: Can you believe that the SMH is yet to publish a report of last night’s game?

A: Yes I can.

Their league reporters are probably down at the Blues’ hotel in Coogee, too busy hosing Adolf’s troops.

How do you know that Haas had not directed Smith to send late night emails and agitate the broncs? For all we know Smith may have advised his client against it. If this has come from the Manager tho I agree.

He also grew up in a household where his father was a first grade nrl coach. Prob helps his development.

Excuses, its simple logic

Show me a half that was at their peak at 21?

Sure he has some youthful exuberance and makes some wrong decisions but there is still plenty of development to come.
I agree with you - but just quietly I reckon DCE and Foz both played their best footy at around that age. Benji Marshall too.
