When the dog started coaching them they won minor premierships in all three grades. Mostly players recruited by the previous coach Kevin Moore. With that talent and a few brought in by the dog and his coaching staff they made the GF and lost, it's been a slow decline slide since and the plane is about to have a crash landing.

To be fair they did make another grand final soon after....and are going to miss the 8 for the first time since he went there

As much as I detest the Bulldogs, and LMFAO at their situation, I'm kind of feeling sorry for the fans there. They had great expectations, but Des has let them down with boring play, ordinary recruitment and player retention, laughable results, and little hope for the future.

What happened to the Great Des Hasler? Is it ego? I thought he had full control over there?

After reading a few threads on their forum, I shudder to think if he ever came back to Manly as the coach. Here is an example of one poster, but his feelings are that of many:

I remember their super league betrayal of Arko, their 7 tackle and forward pass tries and the way Turdburger signed Des in the 1st place.
They have had plenty go their way so they can suck it up.

despite having all the evidence right under their noses that it is high risk and likely to hurt hard in the long run those around him still allowed his mass contract back ending moves. much to laugh about, but that's my fave of the lot. now they're deep in it with a couple of marquee myths on the way!

A guy like Brad Arthur is on the cusp of finally making the finals for the first time in years and he being lauded as a super coach...

Des will miss the finals for the first time in over 10 years and he has taken the Dogs to two GF in 5 years and they are complaining? Who said that they deserve to see their team at the top time and time again every season?

They've had a great run and their roster is starting to age and slow down and a rebuild is underway in Belmore. Some of their fans should try turning up and backing their team in the same manner the Knights fans do each week...now that's a fan base to feel sorry for, not the Bulldogs.

Short answer: I think he turned into a c*nt.
Seriously, remember when he was this unassuming, mumbling humble guy who said he never planned to be a career coach? A little success and a sh*tload of money (thanks again, Toddy!) and he changed his tune pretty quickly. Maybe started believing his own press (about being a mad genius), decided he needed glasses to suit the role more - I don't know. But something changed, and in a manner that can only be described as c*nty.

It's hard to argue with what most of the Bulldogs fans are saying though. The team is deadset awful, and not only that, they're boring. At least Newcastle can be interesting to watch, even though they make a lot of mistakes, and the players are all clearly putting in. You could still enjoy being a Newcastle fan. There's no silver lining to being a Dogs fan.

I don't know what's happened to Des to be honest. We didn't play that boring style when he coached us, and the Bulldogs weren't so boring when he first got there (eg. Barba in 2012). In any event, the "supercoach" aura has certainly been lost.

I think he'll struggle to find another club gig after he winds up at the Dogs. He'll probably go where a lot of failed club coaches go, and coach NSW origin. He can't be worse than Daley...
