NL seems Ok, but he does have a propensity to rapidly move to personal attacks. Perhaps that will subside with time.

I think Penn needs to be very careful not to have taken two step forwards in 2017 only to take three steps back in 2018. Whilst Barrett can't go anywhere in 2018 unless Manly release him from his contract, considerable harm can come from Penn's previously failed approach of delay. Continued uncertainty around TB's future will not doubt be reflected by poor performance and poor results in 2018. Further at the end of 2018 when Barrett leaves some players may follow. On the flip side we hemorrhaged 30 points plus inn rounds 2, 6, 7, 20, 21, 23 & 24 in 2017 and for that to have occurred in 7 games in one season is in my view not acceptable. Frankly we stumbled into semi's with a good win against the Rif in Round 26 after choking in rounds 23 & 24 only to fall out again in the first semi against the Rif. Whilst this is an improvement on 2016 when we conceded 30 plus points on 10 occasions in Rounds 2, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 24, 25 & 26 our defence in both 2016 and 2017 has not been up to scratch. In 2016 we won 8 games from 24 starts and in 2017 we won 14 games from 24 starts which is 22 wins from 48 starts which is a 46% win rate. These are hardly super coach statistics which demand a super coach salary. So what price do we place on team harmony? It is a gamble to say the least. I'd take the punt but it's not my money.
First year a big learning curve, second year built on the first with more stability and confidence within himself and the player ranks, a little more structure was on show and improved overall performances.
Stagnation(squad development wise and coaching), complacency along with the grind of the season got the better of Manly from the Cronulla game onwards.
Once the uptempo straight direct power game wasn't holding up for sufficient amounts of time due to being easily read, injuries and the grind of the season taking hold there wasn't enough science about our game.
During the uptempo confident games there was some signs of good skilled lateral movement---still lacking science behind it but the variety combined with the direct up tempo game is nevertheless good to see.
Third year it is all about sustaining the uptempo direct, power, speed of game,(with better depth in this department) improved more confident, matured skilled lateral movement along with better game per game analysis that isolates and exposes weaknesses in teams better.
The more "obvious signs" of this development in Hasler came during 2007. (but surfaced the previous year) In 2008 onwards Manly were shouting out all the Storm plays before they were unleashed with a sense of "educated arrogance", so we should expect to see similar growth in this area in 2018 if Barrett wants to be seen in the elite class of the current crop of coaches.
Barrett can sit back not sign anything for most of next year backing himself to show an improved team and command big dollars in Sydney------ or move outside of Sydney with big dollars now but with a less skilled, on the slide,at best stagnating squad, risking his reputation over the next 2-3 years of hard rebuilding with no chance of winning a GF.
Or he slides/stagnates next year and can only command a small increase off the back of "lacking resources and doing well with what is on offer".
Take the decent pay rise on offer with a 2 year extension in his favour for the last year--- try and make, get awfully close or win a GF in the next two years and Barrett can command big dollars in Sydney without having to move the family.
If we lose Barrett and get Maguire, Walker will definitely ask for a release.
Well I read your posts 🙂WTF, what would you know you ******* ******** ****!!
Did Hasler's teams look all that good in his first few years, i do expect a better drilled more disciplined composed team next year, but as per my original post i do agree game plan wise we were lacking----more focus was put on uptempo straight power play to keep it simple with some offloads and lateral off the cuff play thrown in. (way too many predictable one out runs at times during the slump)To be honest I think who they get to replace Baz will hae a big impact on whether player harmony and on field progress is impacted.
If we get a muppet like Bozo's little boy or a first time coach, I can see problems.
Someone like Maguire, no!
In addition to the statistics, Im gonna throw out my own personal observations
1. Did it really seem Manly had a game plan? We were good sometimes, awful others! Basically if our stars had a good game, we won...........but there was no "team" plan.
2. Doesn't a decent coach sort out the indisciplined garbage of Lussick.
3. Did we have any set plays? Were there many players in motion, dummy runners? Did we ever look like a well drilled team?
There is also a couple of up and coming Fulton boys in the coaching ranks that would come at a quarter the price of Des or Madge.I wouldn't mind a head kicker like Madge.
Manly has forged a good ensemble but we lack the hardheads that win big, pressure games
I was hoping that Darcy would build on his 2016 form, but he chooses to be a dickhead like Walker. Both lift the opponent more than their own Team
Baz will wilter at the Titans IMO

Barrett's manager sounds like a bit of a ****, Baz will stay, and they'll work out a price shortly you'd thinkPaul Kent on 360 just said Penn has come in way low, and Barrett's Manager way high at the dollars table.
Nailed it
Nailed it
The Bay City Stroners.Sing it with me people
Bye bye bye b bye bye Barrett bye bye....
Woodsie, I don't care either way whether he stays or goes at the moment. In my opinion he hasn't done enough yet to warrant an increase. As Ive said before, if he can find consistency for the team on the field and make another finals appearance, well everyone then becomes a little more convinced.
In answer to your question though, the reason he should/shouldn't be signing is stability. Its the end of 2017 and he's already discussing 2019. Which would be fine if it was behind closed doors with the Manly management. But his Manager is out there saying that he has contingency plans and is meeting with other clubs. This is destabilising for our club. Threatening Manly by putting your name out there with other clubs isn't the way to go about a contract extension for 2019 and beyond in my opinion. If this drags into next years season well it could be the difference between success and failure.
This kind of stuff should happen behind closed doors.
Just my opinion though.
I saw that on the two-headed sports report last night. Apparently there's a clause, he must grow a second head to be allowed in the state.Channel 9 is reporting the Gold Coast Titans have offered former Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire a contract for head coach position.
