Baz Extension

Yeah fair enough. Agree with you on most points.

Not sure I agree about the part of being chuffed. If I was a player and my coach wasn't willing to re-sign and was out and about trying for a new job (or at least his manager) - I don't know if I'd be chuffed.

In my opinion, to have your head coach out there with other clubs and his manager saying things like "we have contingency plans" if Manly can't come to the table - thats destabilising. Rumours existed months ago... did it contribute to our drop in form? Who knows.
Can you imagine Bellamys manager out there in the media threatening the Storm management about coming to the table, if not, there were contingencies.... Nope. Unfortunately it is a sign of our club managements immaturity.

Whether it is Baz's intention to have this happen in the media is irrelevant for me - it is happening in the media... and he and his manager (and Penn) should have the common sense to keep it behind closed doors. He has a year to run on his contract yet we spent the back end of 2017 hearing rumours of Trent leaving... He is still contracted for 2018 yet we are still hearing quotes from Penn like "We have put our best offer forward. We’re just waiting for a response" and Barretts manager saying "“It’s up to them. We’ve done everything we can do. We’ll see what happens.” All while Baz is shortlisted at the Dogs and Titans.

As I said, if this drags into 2018 and our club doesn't know who will coach beyond - it would be extremely disappointing and destabilises the plan. Players want to know who the coach is and so do the fans.

Oh and it really doesn't bother me much at all to be honest. Just bored because there's no footy 🙂 When does the season start again....

Agree on the immaturity .... keep hearing Penn is a businessman, but everytime there is business to be done it ends in a clusterfuk.

Anyway, I'm with Baz, sign nothing ... Penn is just trying to get you cheap now ... wait til next year and get double ... or the sack ... back yourself and the boys Baz.

I love Trent Barrett, but with Mag accepting The Titans gig, Pay with the Bulldogs gig, Dessie most probably the NSW gig (or available), Daly putting his name up for a few gigs (or available), and even Walters stating he was cautiously interested in the Titans gig at one point, are there any other clubs requiring a 1st grade coach right now?

That leaves Trent Barrett with a really small negotiating window if he wants to actually negotiate it now.

There will be a few coaches under the bunsen burner next year, so when those positions become available, maybe THAT is the time to negotiate?

Love to get him re-upped now, don't get me wrong.

The look on TBaz’s face in that photo posted in the Tele , and reposted multiple times on social media said it all.

Penn with a smartarse smirk.

Wayne Beavis following on behind looking pissed.

And TBaz looking positively miffed!

Sadly @strone33 may well be right!

Beavis looks like a Fan Boy and Penn like a pimp :giggle:

Baz is just the meat in the sandwich @;)

I decided to keep my thoughts to myself because apparently it's drivel, but why any self respecting person and obvious supporter of the club would just make something up is beyond me but I feel compelled to set some things straight about the Baz situation.

He was offered 3 yr extension and it looked like going ahead but...

He is playing hardball over money and he is not always seeing eye to eye with Fulton. The players love Baz and want him to stay but Baz is doing everything he can to get more power and money at the club. That's what is stringing the situation along...you can all support Baz and that's fine but he is running out of bargaining chips because the other coaching jobs are being snapped up and lets be real about this...two seasons, one poor and one scrape into the 8...things look promising but he is not Craig Bellamy yet and lots of coaches are desperate for a start or a role somewhere and are willing to coach NRL for next to nothing...the only card he has left is the support from the playing ranks...he will want to sign soon because Penn and Fulton don't play games with anyone.

Also while we are at it, Moylan 110% wanted out of Penrith, know it for a fact, anything else is a bum steer from alleged "contacts". Manly were priced out of his signature even though he wanted to come, he was only going to come for the right coin, which is a big reason why he wants out Penrith...the $250 000 a year transfer fee means that he cannot get more coin regardless of where he goes, because he would have to give some of his new contract back to the Panthers so even if he signed at Sharks for say $900 000, he would only get 750k of it, which is close to what he is already on...no one wants to give a former club a million bucks for nothing, so he is stuck. Penrith a pissed because he signed a deal in good faith and then decided he doesn't like his coach and he wants more money...Gould obviously doesn't want to cop that, hence the fee.

I am sure that the majority of Silver tail posters appreciate and respect your posts Snake . The present situation with the proposed Barrett extension just seems like a normal and classic case of all relevant parties looking after their best interests and in a strictly business and professional sense and manner . Although i would think that Beavis role would be more in the opportunistic mode . A three year extension offer for Barrett and on a fair current market value and realistic terms would seem quite a reasonable offer and proposition by the Manly management at this stage of Barrett"s career and results to date . In an ideal world and with Barrett having the support and respect of the present playing squad and a good bulk of club supporters, and for club stability , of course it would be preferable for a positive and favorable outcome as soon as possible and with Barrett staying relatively long term . However again , all relevant parties have their own interests and individual situations to take into account and if common ground and a resolution can be concluded soon , great , if not and while not desirable , life will continue and go on for the Manly club , as is always the old adage , no one person should or is bigger then the club collectively or as a whole .

They'll find a middle ground that works for all and get it done. As soon as Madge signs a multi year deal with the Titans Baz loses all hand.

But anyway @Snake let me remind you - once again, if you are lying...

You're 100% right...no one is really at fault or doing anything wrong, it's just classic negotiating...I just worry because Fulton and Penn won't cave and Baz doesn't really have another job on the table so hopefully it gets sorted because he is a good coach and the players like him.

There's always Bradford.

Bad time for Barrett to be negotiating really with so many GF winning 1st grade coaches available.
Don't think it makes much difference, the likes of Hasler etc would command more than what Barrett is asking for and coaches of the level of Hasler are too expensive for Manly.

Top level established coaches will also want more investment in staff/facilities levels on top of their pay packets more so than Barrett will seek.

It's just negotiations, all parties will come to their senses eventually.

I don't see a long term five year contract being on offer because Manly don't have the financial resources to do so and Barrett would be silly to lock himself long term at this point of his career.

Many people see a three year extension but i get the impression for both parties a two year extension is in everyone's interest.

Give a pay rise for the final year of the present contract, extend for two and hopefully off the back of success with this on the rise playing group, sponsorship increases, crowds increase and with the building excitement of another GF team around the corner a better all round financial position comes to fruition.

Barrett can then ask for a long term near the top of the current crop package and hopefully Manly is in a much more better financial position off the back of success to offer such a deal.

Not really that interesting.
1)It's negotiations so playing hardball is a given from both sides.

2)Been reported all over the place that Barrett and Bozo butt heads, does this surprise anyone.(Bozo's past and personality alone is enough to create the same headlines even if he entered the Manly sanctum once a decade)

3)Three year extension seems like the standard offer any club would offer for a young coach without a GF and low on funds.

4)Barrett wouldn't seek a 5yr deal unless he could command a top tier contract---which he can't at the moment so that is off the table.

5)Moylan obviously wanted out and was reported in all the papers so not all that informative---Barrett being from Penrith and having close links with Moylan is enough to link Manly as interested.

I do think Manly were interested but i don't think it would have been a wise purchase. I doubt the interest was enough to want or warrant moving mountains to make it happen---merely an opportunistic it's a bonus if it does happen mindset.

Why is Van Damme punching his willy?

As for Moylan....if he wanted out so bad, he should've taken less $$$$ and moved over to Manly.

Not saying you are wrong Snake, but I have posted what I have been told by someone that speaks with Moylon almost on a daily basis. I agree with your comment about not making stuff up. I am always reluctant myself to post such information but I felt people on here were getting a bit excited so I shared. I won't post anything further on the Moylan matter and I don't think I will share in future, in the unlikely chance I come into such information. You would think the Cafegate incident would have taught me to keep things to myself, but it seems I'm not that smart.
