Baz Extension

Agree totally.

Penn would of gone in with a low figure, apparently atm baz is the lowest paid coach and Barrett's management would be looking for a pay rise. So they would be just settling on a figure . Penns background on these matters is pretty poor though seems to drag things out and always try and low ball the figure.
His track record of negotiating really important contracts for the club is dismal to say the least. Des = Left hating the place after long drawn out crap, Foran = Left hating the place after long drawn out crap. DCE = Almost left after long drawn out crap which ultimately led to the club paying overs to keep him after stuffing negotiations with him and Foran. Vs NRL over Stewart & Matai = Lost dismally. Fair to say he has no idea about negotiation. Except he negotiated to get rid of Buhrer and sign that up and comer Lewis Brown on similar cash. So I guess thats something.

From your dealings Mark, did you remember if he got along with Zorba and Penn at the time he left? Were they in his corner or against him. That will tell us if he is ever coming back.

The funny thing is yes he did, which considering he bagged the absolute crap out of Zorba just amazed me.

I don’t think they share the general fan view of De$, so really anything is possible.

However, I doubt De$ would return , simply he’s been used to the “ big end of town” and that would be a big step down to return to the Eagles.

Good to se that the telecr@p just happened to be out the front of the coffee shop yesterday when Penn and Baz were there. What a coincidence, this club just cant play their games internally, it always has to be "leaked" to the media.

There's only one "leak" and that's Zorba to his media puppet Ritchie. It's not really even a leak to be honest - Zorba just tells Ritchie what to write and he writes it. Whatever appears in the Daily Telecrap you can guarantee has a management approved agenda attached.

So Wayne Beavis isn't Barrett's manager, he's just "a consultant"? I guess there's little practical difference. A dickhead is a dickhead is a dickhead.
I'm disappointed this is playing out the way that it is. I figured Barrett was building a good bond with the players and had shown enough that I was happy for him to have another year. But he certainly hasn't proven he's the next Supercoach in waiting. He's had two years as an NRL coach, the second a little better than the first. That's all. He's still a novice with a good opportunity in front of him.
So if he wants to go I'm not overly fussed. My main concern would be that he might take players with him, which all coaches seem to do sooner or later.

Tend to agree here. He wants to get too big for his boots fuk him off. IMO he showed at times his inexperience. There enough coaches out there including Des unemployed and Maguire twenty needs to get a reality check.
I wouldn't mind a head kicker like Madge.

Manly has forged a good ensemble but we lack the hardheads that win big, pressure games

I was hoping that Darcy would build on his 2016 form, but he chooses to be a dickhead like Walker. Both lift the opponent more than their own Team:banghead:

Baz will wilter at the Titans IMO :tmi:

Yep. I was still on the fence about Barrett until that last game. Any fool could see that if they carried on with the chest beating from the previous week that they'd lose to a team freshly fired up by those antics. Yet, right from the start, what did we get?
Pork chops.
We lost that game because of attitude and the attitude should be set and closely monitored by the coach.

I think Penn needs to be very careful not to have taken two step forwards in 2017 only to take three steps back in 2018. Whilst Barrett can't go anywhere in 2018 unless Manly release him from his contract, considerable harm can come from Penn's previously failed approach of delay. Continued uncertainty around TB's future will not doubt be reflected by poor performance and poor results in 2018. Further at the end of 2018 when Barrett leaves some players may follow. On the flip side we hemorrhaged 30 points plus inn rounds 2, 6, 7, 20, 21, 23 & 24 in 2017 and for that to have occurred in 7 games in one season is in my view not acceptable. Frankly we stumbled into semi's with a good win against the Rif in Round 26 after choking in rounds 23 & 24 only to fall out again in the first semi against the Rif. Whilst this is an improvement on 2016 when we conceded 30 plus points on 10 occasions in Rounds 2, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 24, 25 & 26 our defence in both 2016 and 2017 has not been up to scratch. In 2016 we won 8 games from 24 starts and in 2017 we won 14 games from 24 starts which is 22 wins from 48 starts which is a 46% win rate. These are hardly super coach statistics which demand a super coach salary. So what price do we place on team harmony? It is a gamble to say the least. I'd take the punt but it's not my money.

In all honesty id love to see a coach that would have done better then barrett the last 2 years . He took over in 16 from absolute turmoil, with the Glen Stewart and Watmough debacle still roar . He had his star half and star fullback not talking , as well as a **** load of injuries. He had Tommy come into first grade still green that had to fill in for stewart , a pivot position that changed more times then my ex's mind , new ceo's , salary cap , the list goes on. Sign him up and give him the chance to lift this side deep into September on steady ground.

Will everyone calm down

DT and the lurker post a few articles in the post season lull between the GF and the World Cup and everyone sh*ts their pants

I have no doubt both parties want the same thing and they are just haggling over $$$ which all players and coaches do

Relax, he is signed for next year and in due course it will sort itself out

GC are not a serious threat unless we come in significantly under their offer and they are owned by the NRL….they won’t be paying big bucks

Can anybody give me one compelling reason why ... if you were Baz .... and had confidence in your ability and the team you were assembling ... that you would sign a contract extension early, and not gamble that after a third good season your value goes from $300k to $600k a season.

That's a big difference in pay chq's .... they say Green is now worth a $mil a year.

Of course if he was nervous or uncertain of his future value ... he would sign lickety split .... but then, would he be the coach we want?

Not one person has answered .... other than insecurity ... there is not one good reason for Baz to sign an extension before mid next year, it is as simple as that, if I was Baz I wouldn't be rushed.

Titans are in the last stages of being bought out by a private Owner.

If they rate Baz, they will throw money at him.

I don't think he warrants it at this stage, but they would have their own viewpoint. @

Agree completely, not to mention the biggest turnover of players in history - 40 in two years. That's a massive issue to try to overcome.

Next year is the real test. If we can become a defensive force. We have the attack to win the comp.

Flo will appoint his mate David fairleigh as titans coach as soon as he is able to, surely Trent knows this?

He is going through contract negotiations with the club to re-sign and STAY... reading some of these comments are killing my brain cells.
What would you rather he was photographed with nick politis outside a cafe?
He is with Scott penn, Barrett is within his right to milk out as much cash as he can to stay with us.
