Baz Extension

The problem for Penn is that the players love TB and if he goes we go backwards regardless of who we get to replace him. There might be more to this than just money and may have something to do with control. Sound kind of familiar?

RoughTime line.

About June. Madge to Manly. Why? We were travelling like champs. Madge was said to be a known commodity as a coach who can get a Premiership, who commands big dollars. Baz could possibly be at that standard but he now commands similar money.

When the Madge to Manly rumour seemed like some sort of crazy fiction. Soon after the wheels to our season feel off.

October Madge is unemployed.

Now further confirmation Baz was being shopped to Bulldogs and Titans.

Penns comment Manly won't release Baz is very interesting.

As a side note. Media are still saying Madge will have a job with a Sydney club for 2018.

Media also saying don't expect this Baz extension to happen any time soon. That much confirmed by Penn above.

Pieces do seem to be falling into place!
For a while there I didn't know who you were referring to as 'Madge'. Looked it up on google then came across urban dictionary :
Madge
When a man sticks his penis between his legs in order to immitate a womans ladyflower, this can be known as a madge (playing on the word vag)

It now makes sense.

It is believed that Baz one of the least paid coaches. That wouldn't surprise me.

So he's using the Titans and bulldogs to up his price.

Madge and manly. Please. He would laugh at our football department and want 2ce the staff. Plus whatever Baz gets he'd be on double.

And he's got a good side at manly believeing in him. The titans are a basket case.

Who know makes no sense to me but stranger things have happened

The Daily Telegraph - Dean Ritchie

THIS was the high-powered meeting Manly hoped would keep rival raiders away from in-demand coach Trent Barrett.

The Daily Telegraph was on-the-spot when Sea Eagles chairman Scott Penn held vital contract talks with Barrett in North Sydney on Monday morning.

Barrett’s adviser, Wayne Beavis, was also present to discuss a possible two-year contract extension. However, no deal could be reached.

Penn described the meeting as “positive”, although Beavis wasn’t so optimistic.

We’re getting closer — it’s a process. But we’ll get there. Positive discussions,” Penn said.

Beavis was hopeful without being overly confident a deal would be struck to extend Barrett’s tenure beyond 2018.

There are contingency plans, of course. The deal has got to be right. You’re never confident until the ink is on the paper,” Beavis said.

Pressed on whether a contract could be nailed down soon, Beavis said: “It’s up to them. We’ve done everything we can do. We’ll see what happens.”

The meeting took place inside Penn’s North Sydney offices after the Manly co-owner grabbed coffee with Barrett and Beavis.

Manly hope to announce the retention of Barrett — and possibly a new CEO following Tim Cleary’s departure — in the next six weeks.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Barrett was on a four-man shortlist for the vacant Canterbury job, which was ultimately went to Dean Pay.

And Gold Coast have a strong interest in Barrett although he is contracted to Manly for next season and the club won’t consider an early release.

Barrett guided Manly to the finals this year before losing to Penrith in controversial circumstances.

Just two years into his first NRL job, Barrett has already shown himself to be a career coach.

“The club wouldn’t be offering an extension unless we thought he had long-term potential, absolutely,” Penn said.

“There is still a bit of work on both sides in terms of reviewing. We are going through a 2018 budget process at the moment and a big part is to map out a three-year planning process. Part of the discussions were around some of that.

“We have to let that take its course as well. We’re weeks away, certainly not months away. There are still a few things on the table we need to keep talking through.”

Penn was aware of speculation rival clubs had begun to eye-off Barrett, a former NSW and Australian five-eighth.

“I’m sure there is interest in him out there,” Penn said. “We are certainly building toward positive things. We absolutely have a clear view of where we want to head.

“Trent has done a terrific job helping to rebuild the club’s culture. The club has had a massive turnover of players over the last two years and he has done a terrific job to solidify that and make sure we have the nucleus of a premiership squad for the future.

“We have a lot of younger guys who look up to Trent and want to play for him.”

Barrett isn’t the highest paid coach in the NRL and would be tempted by any rich offerings from rivals clubs.

Asked would Barrett be seeking a pay increase, Penn said: “There’s certainly an upgrade in there and that’s justified.”

Manly hasn’t had a CEO since Tim Cleary left in May. Penn continues to chase down the candidate he wants to run the Sea Eagles.

“We are down to a short-list,” Penn said.

The successful candidate will come from outside the club.

I for one would not be sad to see him go.
That Titans job is a beauty...............have fun mate!

He'll sign. Probably just working out the 3 year plan and how Barrett fits into it and what part Barrett plays along side bozo. Barrett probably wants more control as well as a good pay rise. Sure they will come to an agreement. Would be crazy to go to another coach again. Team is heading in right direction and with a few more key signings successful years ahead hopefully
So why did the wheels fall completely off for 6weeks when we were running second behind the purple scum? Something happened & we just scraped into the eight after looking top 4 specials.
Gould said Barrett next super coach, why didn’t he keep him?
When Des left, the pie eating Zorba said he will be back. The time is right for the return of the Desiah or the Maguiah
Baz to the Titans

I'm reading it for what it is. If Barrett was so unhappy working with someone here at Manly, he would be gone already, unless he thought there was a way of bypassing the individual. This probably has some weight but Barrett isnt walking away unless he doesnt get what he wants clearly from Penn, whatever that is.

The Titan's offer is merely Barett's bargaining chip ace, to put the pressure on Penn to come up with the deal he wants. I dont think he wants to leave, but he will if Penn doesnt come to the party. I suspect he wants to stay because he has been working hard with the players Manly have been accumulating, and it appears they like him and that's reciprocated. But there is clearly a sticking point that Barrett wants clarified, and its probably a few matters.

Like I said, if he wanted to go, the offer at Titans exists and he would be gone by now. Isnt that what happened with Hasler as soon as the season was over? I think the ball is in Penn's court and he's been given the conditions of an ongoing arrangement. If he comes to the party, Barrett will sign.

It should be Manly's bargaining chip. "Sign here or we'll let you go to the Titans!!" - lol

Being on the dogs short list means nothing. I think Lara Pitt is on @Mark from Brisbane 's short list but I'm not sure how that affects her in real life. :giggle:

Anyway, I just think these things take time (the coach signing, not Mark and Lara) so I'll leave the speculation up to you people.

I think many of you know how these contractual agreements pan out. Having been a union head in my past I'm quite familiar with the process.

Firstly Barrett hasnt made his mind up yet. That is obvious otherwise they wouldnt still be negotiating. The fact that he is negotiating suggests he wants to stay, but he want it on his terms.

Standard practice with any negotiation is like bartering. You set forward an ambit claim, as does the management. Both figures are somewhat exaggerated and not expected to succeed but are only starting points. Barrett will be asking too much and Penn too little. Discussion follows and each side softens their claims, seeking a middle point where they agree to sign. But this may take several meetings, as each walks away and has a think about the offer made and how much further they are prepared to bend. Both will have a minimum claim beyond which they will not budge, but you never show what that figure is, always seeking a better deal if you can get it.

If Barrett's minimum figure is higher than Penn's maximum figure, then we have a problem. But that point, given what's been said, has not been reached yet. It may take another one or two meetings before the figures close in to a point where both parties are happy. But they wont show their minimum demand until the final meeting, and only if necessary. What we are seeing here is standard practise. We just have to hope that Penns maximum offer is within Barrett's range. If not then goodbye.

Again nrl agents show there colours. Over it shopping him to bulldogs and now titans. He still a lot to learn imo but has playing group onside

I like Baz. I hope he stays.

But if he doesn't want to sign on to Manly and is demanding more money than happy to let him go. Titans would be career suicide so let him go.

Realistically Bozo has been assembling the squad in the background. Baz has been head coach for 2 years and scraped us into the finals this year.
If he doesn't back that performance up next year it will be a big failure so I do hope the club is really thinking about their next move carefully. Personally I don't think he deserves a big pay rise yet as the jury is still out on what kind of success he will have.

If he backs up with another finals performance I'll be convinced and he deserves a long term contract . But so far we've finished 13th in 2016 and the wheels fell off later in the season in 2017 with some very poor performances during the season.

Big year this year and it will define Baz as a coach. Personally I don't think he'll leave but as I said, I'm not convinced yet so wouldn't be devastated if he didn't want to stay.
Tend to agree here. He wants to get too big for his boots fuk him off. IMO he showed at times his inexperience. There enough coaches out there including Des unemployed and Maguire twenty needs to get a reality check.

Mate, you'd be the bloke sitting in a room filled with smoke still denying there was a fire!

Agree totally.

Penn would of gone in with a low figure, apparently atm baz is the lowest paid coach and Barrett's management would be looking for a pay rise. So they would be just settling on a figure . Penns background on these matters is pretty poor though seems to drag things out and always try and low ball the figure.
