Here's what I see as the problem with our backs:
DCE is the only one consistently capable of setting up a movement. He would be so effective in a well coached backline. When Turbo was playing we were dangerous in attack mainly due to DCE looking to put him into gaps.
The Shoe was the only 5/8 we tried who took pressure off DCE because this kid has so much attacking ability. If he stays fit next season our backline will improve markedly.
Parker is good defensively but has no attack. He doesn't have the skill set to be classed as a good first grade centre.
Harper looks like he'll be one of our permanent centres next season. I'm hopeful about him.
Tyfuna should be the other centre because he can attack and goes looking for opportunities.
Our wingers are starved of opportunities because players such as Sir Loin won't pass and and always turn back inside. He must change his style. And because our kicking game is so poor we rarely score from kicks or get repeat sets.
Suili is just a big body and is more suited to the forwards.
Walker used to have pace and skill but he has rarely shown it when playing for Manly. He disappoints me.
Overall, our backline players tend to run too far, ineffectively, without looking to set up their outside man.
If you watch the Tits, for example, they throw the ball around which gives space to their wingers.
It's a sad day when a Manly team is so poor in attack, and when I'm pointing to the Tits as an example for us to follow.
