Tom Trbojevic destined to be one of the greats

We were going to be outsiders in all our opening games anyway. Having the attacking 'big gun' missing will be a good test of the squads mentality. Supposedly one of Hasler's strong points. Over to you, Des!

Truth is, he has really vulnerable legs. Every time he goes down I fear some sort of leg injury. At first I thought he was like a foal growing into his legs. But now I just think he has weaknesses there. He seems to fear that too.
Have to agree. But I used to feel the same way about Tedesco - when he started out at the Tigers, it seemed like he was made out of tissue paper and he had a horrible run of injuries. But he came good and has been pretty durable ever since. Here's hoping Tom can get over the hump as well.

Manly cop injury blow with Tom Trbojevic to miss start of season
FEBRUARY 23, 2019
With the prognosis worse than first anticipated, the NSW and Kangaroos star will now be unavailable until round four of the NRL premiership. Trbojevic injured his hamstring in Saturday night’s trial match against Cronulla at Shark Park.

And in more bad news for Manly, The Daily Telegraph can reveal front-rowers Kelepi Tanginoa and Tanieli Paseka are Both expected to be out for the next four weeks with knee injuries.

The injury issues at Brookvale come just three weeks before Manly’s season-opener against West Tigers at Leichhardt Oval.

Tom Trbojevic is set to be sidelined for six weeks with a hamstring injury.

I reckon it will be sooner. He has a pretty good healing rate if I remember. Sure I would like them to make sure he's good but let's just see. Round 2 or 3 I bet.

Unless Albert Hoppa comes in and starts killing it?

Especially after his knee injuries, how many times did we cringe every time Snake got tackled, then sighed with relief when he didn't get up limping?

Its the same thing all over again, though we've got a potential 10 more years of it.

Again, same as my other post above. For a few years there was this perception that Manly without Snake at fullback were a much easier proposition. Even with the likes of Killer, Skivvy, Robbo, Wolfman, Kitey, Kingdog, Ox, Cherry, Foz, Gifty and Choc, we were always considered a lot less dangerous without Snake at the back and even against lower ranked teams we were considered a much smaller chance of winning without him.

Only difference now is that we don't have a star-studded backline. Depending on Walker's court case tomorrow, with Turbo out we might well have only Jorge in our backline for a few weeks who can even be considered a regular first grader. Not the ideal way to start the season, especially given that we face the likes of Easts, NZ and Souffs in rounds 2, 3 and 4. And you can bet your bottom dollar that the Chooks we face in Rd.2 at Brookie won't be the same Chooks we take on in Gosford on Saturday night.....their big guns have already had their trials with the Wigan game and those who played in the All-Stars match.

Trials are an unnecessary evil and its a pity to lose Tom for a month or so and the other guys hurt. Opportunity for some of our fringe players now and I hope that Dessie is brave and puts a specialist full back in place, I would let Jade Anderson have a crack at it as he will get some vital first grade experience and this kid can really play too!

Needs to be put in the 30 rather than developmental player which my understanding stops him from first grade until July. But Anderson is a solid full back option.

Agree totally. I expect us to improve steadily over the year as players return, combinations get better and our fitness levels in defence shine through. Looking at the draw and early loss of players I’m expecting a 1/4 or 0/5 start but not blowouts. Think we will be competitive but those early games without TT and co will be very tough. We need to be really patient. This is going to be a slow process but so much more confident long term with Des at the helm.

I agree

You look at our draw
Tigers away..always hard at the best of times Loss
Roosters Home..They just will have too much class
Warriors away but is our home game in NZ.. This is where I see our first chance of a win
This is followed by Souths at home and knights away.
We could very easily be 1/4 as you said and Des will be under pressure
I think we should give Des until the end of 2020 before we can really judge his performances as coach.

Yer personally that's were he belongs mate.

Certainly a debate to be had as to whether he is more suited to the fullback role or as a centre, fellas. One thing not debatable though is that if you push Turbo out to 3 or 4, you can't pay him the $$$ he is on now and you'll lose him as a lot of other clubs would be willing to put him in the the Number 1 jersey and pay him accordingly.

Yer mate and they will have the same drama with him back there as well imo. I think he could do well there and has proven it at test level ( limited) but he has . I'd slip Hopoate or a young Anderson in at 1 and give them the whole year to prove themselves. Turbo and Suli in the centres , depending on Walker and Garrick and Jorge , maybe Suli on the wing . The backline then doesn't look to shabby.

Based on what? I feel sorry for young Hopoate, when Will made his debut we were a strong team and he could just find his way. He missed most of last season with an acl and people want to throw him to the wolves at fullback. He needs to get confidence back in his knee and find his feet in 1st grade and that should be done from the wing. Anderson on the other hand other than pace brings nothing except being a turnstile in defence.

Agreed. How can you possibly pick a player in first grade who has only played Under 17 football, who missed the entire 2018 season with injury, and who is going to take time to recover?

He is fit now ole

Mate as far as I know he is fit now and training the house down that's why . Dce and Joel Thompson have backed him in so he must have the backing of his teammates. Hasler threw William in in 2010 as an 18 year old and that worked didn't it . Wing I think but still into the fire .
