The Joel Thompson Thread (Any Off-topic discussion will be deleted)

I reckon Siro had a huge impact for us (good one). His injury coincided with our form slump
not that he was bad, i just don't think he's the solution to winning the comp next year. having a hole hitting second rower next to cherry evans would be so damaging, did you see how well he put his outside man into holes this year? if that were a player like thompson theres not stopping him before the line.
even look at sironens stats https://www.totalfootystats.com.au/nrl-player-stats/manly-sea-eagles/curtis-sironen#.WcTjPtOx3OQ
run meters arent the best

Running meters are not everything for sirro, his least important stat. He is a ball playing backrower, plenty of offloads, running holes and lines for DCE, ball playing and linking in our plays with his passes and the occasional kick. Siro has had an awesome year, easily one of our best.

I've had a wrap on Joel Thompson since he was in a struggling raiders team. Pure footballer. I rate him as highly as Jackson. Just does the stuff not many 'fans' see.

Sironen was great for us this year and winterstein was solid/is solid.

Lane could be anything. Not sure what his issue is. I'm hoping there is a front rower coming from somewhere if we let Lawrence go. Lussick is and Tapau is a week starting 10 and 8. Lussick has a year I reckon to prove what he can be but we can't ask Marty to be the machine again this year. He did his best in 17 but not fair he had to do it alone. AFB is great but still a kid. Sipley could be good but also a kid. Surely something is coming or it won't matter if Moylan and Thompson both arrive and have career best years we are down a front rower. An experienced and dangerous one.

We aren't necessarily down a prop, we've got Lussick, Taupau, AFB, Sipley, Perrett plus a few more young guys coming through. Although in saying that we could do with an experienced one. I reckon with a good back-row (with Thompson) our front row is as good as any. The bench could improve although is filled with potential (AFB excluded, who has proved himself although will continue to develop). I think Shipley will be good. Perrett's spot vulnerable

We dont have a starting prop though, all we have are bench impact props.

When the new season starts all players have the opportunity to stake their claims .
As we rebuild our roster the weaker the slower and the less skillful will make way for the superior match winning players that are essential for our success .
As usual we will see sentimental favourites depart .
THERE IS NO PLACE FOR SENTIMENT IN THE COMPETETIVE RESULTS DRIVEN NRL BUSINESS.

Luckily we have the great man making the tough decisions

Lussick and Taupau are starting, Taupau for certain. Lussick is better when he starts, off the bench he is useless and I don't know why that is, he just performs very badly off the bench.

Lussick is useless, this year he was poor. His discipline was horrible, giving away silly penalties all the time. Missed a lot of simple tackles. Id prefer him if he has to play on the bench. We badly need a starting prop.

My theory is that this was due to him being on the bench. He was phenomenal against the panthers in rd 26 when he was starting and was restricted to little minutes against them in the first week of finals. We could sign someone although our pack is good enough if we get Thompson, we can add to it in future years although I don't think it's absolutely crucial in 2018

Fonua-Blake/Lussick, Taupau, Thompson, Curtis Sironen, Jake Trbojevic. That is a good pack in my opinion

i am not sold on Thompson to be honest. Only really watched him closely because of supercoach when i had him last year and this year and would have a good game here and there, but he brings the Beau Scott element in that his is a no nonsense hard mf.

Before he gets here can we please decide if it's Joel Thompson or Joel Thomson. We have have had that many Cliff Lyon & Jamie Lyons playing over the years it's embarrassing. It would be nice to get this one right from the start.
Nah Clint definitely Thompson.
My cricketing hero is Jeff Thomson and some journos would spell it Geoff Thompson.....
Same as the dummies that say JEFF Toovey !!
Blasphemy!!!

Plenty of rights coming through. Just throw a 'W' in front and your covered.

Dragons have Sims on good money sitting on the bench so can see how this could very easily happen. I think this could be a great buy. Runs good lines can break tackles and is a good defender.

Great work by the recruitment team if this does happen.
