The Joel Thompson Thread (Any Off-topic discussion will be deleted)

A mate mentioned this about a week ago and i just laughed at him saying fat chance thinking he was full of it. Certainly wouldn't complain if it happens. Has a number of good years ahead of him i reckon.

Wouldnt you start one of our big boppers off the bench and start joel, frank off the bench for impact.

Unsure mate. Marty is a lock to start at prop. I thought both Lussick / AFB are set for the other starting spot (and I also think it's amazing quality). Frank, Curtis & Jake are all 80 minute backrowers, so unsure where Thompson would slot in - he IS a gun though.

Curtis is very prone to injury. I kinda think if he remains healthy, we are a much better club, so acquiring Thompson to cover Curtis would be smart as well.

JOEL thomspon is a left edge backrower and Siro plays on the right so you can bet Frank is the fall guy.

Thompson is not a front rowers butt hole so that won't be happening. His biggest attribute is hitting holes so he is perfect for an edge...moving him anywhere else in the forwards is not even a consideration.

Good points. Thanks for your PM the other day mate. I'll certainly take what you say as given. Was going to reply but got busy as, then what do you know - gastro 🙂 Good times !

GORRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I'm actually a big Thompson fan. Always have him in the centres for Supercoach.

As for Frankie - look I'm not one for cliches but he's honest as the day is long. At his age he is what he is. If you can upgrade the talent level there then go for it. It gives us 13 that if everyone plays not up to potential, but just their accepted levels, we're top 8. If you chuck Moylan in who I hate as a Panther but would love in our 6, that's the best 1-13 in the comp. And you're going to get a couple of good years out of everyone in that 13.

Last year was Frankie's rookie year as an NRL forward ... he was still changing his running style from Rugby. His workload in attack was almost totally dependent on the way Green chose to involve him.

He will continue to improve ...

He could become a thing of beauty on that left edge.

I am not certain that somebody coming from Union and playing one season on the "left" makes them a left anything. Most players can play either ... Siro played on the left at Wests.

Winterstein may well miss out .... I just wouldn't bet on it.

He'd be a good get. Can cover centre so that means Lewis's utility value diminishes too. I'd be happy if we picked him up. An edge forward with a bit of punch will be very handy.

Seriously if this is true top 4 2018 is guaranteed! He is the most underrated backrower around, he is one of those players who is playing so well but is never if considerations for origin and he should be there. But surely Dragons arent silly enough to remove him, his combo with Widdop is game breaking wow! This is massive news if true. May I ask where you heard this wonderful scoop?
Spot on Turbo 1 . Joel Thompson is very underrated . He has all the quality attributes and the mongrel to go with it . Joel was on twitter confirming our interest and offer to his manager

While everybody is dropping Big Frankie Winterstein ..... I'll put a casual lobster on Frank not only keeping his spot .... but having a super 2018.
From the stats and the matches I have seen this year Joel is a more dynamic back rower than Frank . Above all he is also a more consistent performer .

So ass...uming that the rumour is true and we have Thompson, Frank and Siro for the backrow, where would you see the 3 playing? Maybe 2 props, utility and a backrower off the bench?
What I see is that competition breeds excellence .
Trial matches and game form will sort out who will play in our 17.

Good thing about Thompson, is he has a Huge work rate, but still offers quality - powerful edge runs and guards his half defensively very well.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but they haven't mistaken him for Bodene Thompson, have they?
I don't think so, that Bodene Rumour happened a little while ago and would be unnecessary to republish.
