Storm signed him for 3 years in 2014... he was never on the market...
With all the duds mentioned, what was the contract situation for all of them? All on the market or contracted like Munster? Jerome Laui was playing in a Holden Cup grand final. Would have come cheap and we could have added another player or two. Just making a point that there were probably better young players available than the likes of Mbye, Brookes, Ash Taylor and co that were mentioned to fit a particular narrative...

We could probably start a thread about the most polarising players in the history of rugby league. DCE would certainly get a mention. Along with the likes of Wally Lewis, Willie Mason, SBW spring to mind?

Fair point... I reckon @BOZO Just mentioned the 'buzz' halves at that time...

Glad we did not end up with Brooke's...

You need a fully stacked side, fully fit with a few million dollar players all playing at the top of their game to win a grandfinal. Just look at the previous winners over the last few years. Roosters had to spend a million each on Teddy, Cronk and Chrighton to play with Keary and Co to win the GF. Munster was also in a stacked side along side multiple million dollar players playing in a fully fit side at the top of their game.

Even then its hard to win a gf, look at Panthers last year. Cleary and team choked on the big stage.

You put Munster in Manly last year and take DCE out for a straight swap and your saying that is the difference. Even without a hooker, Tommy and Walker for most of the year and also both centres and AFB out for many weeks Munster would of guided us to a GF? Please? The times when he has looked lost and trying too hard are the games when the side is being dominated and we have had a depleted side, not when we are playing well as a team fully fit. No half looks good when the side is not performing well. Different argument if Manly had been winning and making semis with a fit side but he was still not performing or delivering

I haven't been talking about 2021. I have been talking about our options in 2015...

When reading all these comparison stats for halves last year ... I pondered what the changes would be to their respective try assists if last year DCE had played with Storm ... and Cleary had played for Bulldogs ... and Adam Reynolds had played for Manly .. and say Lachlan Lewis played for Panthers ??

DCE was second highest try assist last year in a team that almost got the wooden spoon. I didn't think he had a too bad year in a less than memorable supporting Manly

I agree with what you say about what it takes to win a grandfinal. DCE and Foz touched on this in their interviews during the week. They said our 2011 GF winning team had some of the best players in their position in the comp. Guys like Snake, Lyon, Foz, DCE, Gift, Choc, Kite and Ballin were all top 5 in their positions. Melbourne, Panthers and Roosters currently have 25% of the roster as top 5 in their position, with a number playing well and truly above their paygrade (like we had in '08 and '11).

How many do we have? I count 3 in DCE, Jake and Tom (last year it was 4, if you include AFB). Paseka and Schuster have the potential to join them; Fainu too if he is not found guilty. We also don't have many guys who consistently play above their paygrade.

Worst comments are the ones DCE only played good in 2011 and 2013 because the players around him made him look good. LOL. Tell me a half that has dominated and made the finals and won GFs without gun players around them?

And how many games has Tom played in the last few years?

Considering I am still living in 2015, just for ****s and giggles Woodsie. What if we let DCE go and focused on youth? Please don't attack me as I am aware there are many variables.

Well...having a VERY quick look at the Holden Cup in 2015, there were these players-
Lachlan Croker
Addo-Carr
Tevita Pangai Jnr
Jayden Brailey
Tyrone May
Brent Naden
Jai Arrow
Angus Crichton
Viliami Kikau
Brandon Smith
Latrell Mitchell
Jospeh Manu
Blake Laurie
Dylan Edwards
Jerome Laui
Daniel Saifiti
Luke Bateman
Paul Momirovski

What if we let DCE go and got say - Brandon Smith, Jerome Laui and Viliami Kikau for the money we were offering DCE?

Take your pick at which 3 you would choose. Not all of them would have been on a big contract at their respective NRL clubs, surely...and contracts mean nothing to these young guys anyway. Just a reminder, the Panthers were a different place back then and not the juggernaut they have become...

Bring it everybody!!! LOL!

Moops ... my post regarding halve's stats was a one off observation suggesting that they would differ in direct proportion to the quality and form of the team around them ... I have not entered into the main DCE debate, mainly because I doubt any of the main protagonists opinions will be changed ..

If your point is that the world wouldn't have ended had we let DCE go ... then I agree ... although a hole would have been created that may have taken a couple of seasons to fill ... full it would have ended up ..

We would have lost all 3 of them the very next year, because as soon as they hit first grade it was clear what they could do - and how much they were now worth.
Remember we have $1.2 million. Surely it would have taken more than one year for their contracts to total $1.2 million? Laui wouldn't be on $400 K now, would he? The others, an upgrade of about $500 k total. How much do you think Kikau and Smith are on at present?

Too hard to speculate how they would of turned out, as they developed in different systems, under different coaches and played in different teams?

I do feel however our juniors at the moment are killing it so its important to hold onto the good ones and bring them through in the coming years. We have definitely let some good ones go over the past few years.
