Maybe we should get better value players than over paying the ones that cannot match his stats .

Maybe if we paid him his worth maybe 800k you’d pick up another couple of players with the left over 500k
A player on the market is worth as much as a club is prepared to pay for him
and DCE is worth just that

But also got to note that highlights are a little bit of selective memory
I really like dce at times and love when he is playing confident (like now with him building well). When that happens, which has been very inconsistent over the years to be fair, he is one of the best halves.
All criticism over the years has been warranted, yet these highlights show what he can do.
In a good team with a well-supporting spine he is huge. But he isn’t a dominant player. He cant turn momentum around often (except a great 40/20 here and there), but he can turn momentum into points and big plays.

You need a full strength team all playing well, and players in key positions as the best in the game in those respective positions to even have a chance of winning a grandfinal or making top 4. People just dont get that and blame DCE for us not winning anything in the last few years, even though he has stayed on the field and been one of us best consistently.
Tom is incredible, but he would not be able to win us anything if he had both halves and the hooker out for most of the year. The highlight reel shows what he can do when the team is at full strength which is how you judge what a team is capable of. Cleary is playing well now in a super great side all at full strength. Two years ago he was dumped from origin and panthers could not even make the semis. I guess he is pretty avg like DCE? He choked at origin last year, chocked in the GF and has not won anything yet?
People like to bring up all the bad performances yet dont talk about the majority of his performances over the years have been very good.
Take cronk out, what other half has been incredible over the past 5 years and taken their team to success, even more, what half has done it without a full fit side and not a fully stacked rep side. Name a half?

I thought last year we started well and looked like a top 4 side, even without Faniu which was a huge loss preseason until injuries completely ruined the year.
The year before, again injuries ruined us just before semis. We still almost made the preliminary final with all the injuries, albeit before a pretty crap Jake sin binning call.
The year before again was full of drama, injuries and depleted side. We have had rotten luck and dont have the salary cap of the roosters and Melbourne.
You look at those two sides over the past 5 years, chock full of talent, rep players on the bench and made the semis with full strength sides. You look at the highlight reels when Manly have been full strength and I honestly feel we would of been top 4 for a few of those years and peoples opinions would be different. Unfortunatley its always DCE that seems to cope most of the criticism for the sides under achieving performances.
Do I think he can improve? Absolutely. Cleary is the gun half at the moment. Do I think DCE can match him on ability, absolutely, but would love the side to stay injury free to see what we are capable of.

The club wouldn’t be paying him what he’s on if his contract was up today. Some fool did the lifetime deal with him many years ago.

To lose two international halves in the space of a month would have been a disastrous situation.
At the time of his signing there was a shortage of elite halves
His value at the time was a case of supply and demand
And DCE was a player in demand at the time .

Would it have made any difference at all though? We could have signed two of the best junior halves in the game back then and built. It is not as though we have had much success as a club since 2015 anyway...just treading water after a stupid $1.2 million panic contract.

Another comment on his wage...yawn He was happy to sign for 850k remember? Best junior halves? Like they have amounted to anything. Would of signed Elgey and Ash Taylor. Te Maire Martin, Luke Metcalf were also best young halves as Juniors. Thank god we signed DCE and didn't take your advice

Yeah they would because if you think other clubs would not jump at the chance to sign him you are kidding yourself...
he is the SOO winning halfback and clubs would offer overs to bring his effort, ability and brand on board...

Other players at the time around 2015, 2016 Manly could of targeted and let DCE go to Titans are Moses Mbye, Luke Brooks, Jack Bird, Aiden Sezer, Jackson Hastings, Corey Norman, Ben Hunt, Milford, Morgan etc. Lucky we have DCE. Should of also been on a lot less if past owners didn't stuff up negotiations
