Snake back to training tomorrow???

Be the same on March 15 mate, they are busted never to play again ( my opinion only ).
a mate had a beer with snake last weekend. Said he will 'train' for another month and hopefully insurance will confirm the payout before the season starts, at which point he will retire. He also said Matai was in the same boat. We won't see either of them play again

Well if insurance agree to pay them out we will have around 1 million to play with for some player raiding during the season if any players become available. Going on previous mid season signings, a couple of good ones should come up and with that sort of coin we will be in the box seat.

If all of this is true then one of the upcoming Manly trial games should be a Brookie game sold as a Farewell to Snake & Matai game in which both should play or at least run out on to the field for some of the game.

But i guess that won't happen for many reasons including the NRL will count Snake & Matai pay out as cap 2017 money if they play 1 minute of a trial game.

This makes sense (ie not hearing anything). It is difficult for the Club to come out and say exactly what is happening until it has happened, that being the agreement by the insurer to make the payout. So I suppose we just sit tight and see how it plays out.

Well if he's on the beers it's probably a good sign that his mind is elsewhere. Stick em on the back of a cart for a lap of Brookie and thanks for the memories. They don't need to try to play busted and have that be what we remember them for...

While I would like to believe that, just remember who we're ultimately dealing with here. The NRL will not allow any dispensation for it, not to Manly anyway. They did with Choc because it was doesn't-matta who are (to them) a vital commercial commodity in the western suburbs, but do not expect them to come to the party with Manly over Snake and Skivy.

I can't see how the insurance company will payout their contracts, as it's been documented that their injuries are chronic, which means the club has to pay them out.
It's also up to the Nrl doctor to determine the same if we are to get salary cap relief, though he did rule in Watmough's favour when everyone knew it was bull$hit

The club can hardly ask for an insurance payout while the two of them are running around in the 9's or a trial game. It's like driving yourself to the insurance office to claim on a written off car.

Manly Sea Eagles star Brett Stewart to learn NRL fate as knee injury lingers

D-DAY looms for champion Manly fullback Brett Stewart, with doctors this week to decide whether his troublesome knee will last another NRL season.

Less than seven weeks out from the 2017 season kick-off, Stewart hasn’t returned to pre-season training as he struggles to recover from his chronic knee injury.

The veteran No. 1 has been working overtime in rehabilitation in a bid to extend his illustrious career.

However, he is facing an uphill battle to honour the final season of his contract.

If he is unable to take the field, Manly will ramp up discussions with the flyer’s manager George Mimis to negotiate his final salary.

It’s understood Stewart is on a back-ended deal worth approximately $700,000 this season.

Unfortunately for Manly, a large portion of this figure would be included on their salary cap if Stewart’s injury was deemed pre-existing by an insurance company.

It comes as fellow veteran Steve Matai is set to retire due to ongoing neck and shoulder injuries.

If the case that some of snakes injury comes out of our cap, the club should be ok. Correct me if im wrong but dont you get a salary cap discount if a player is out for the season, so we would get some relief if snakes injury is not medically exempt.

We would have had to recruit with snake on the books otherwise the nrl wouldn't allow us to register contracts.

We have built a solid roster for 2017.

While it would be nice to use his money to nab one more experienced player, its not the end of the world.

Why is there a link between what an insurance company decides and the salary cap? That makes no sense.

The insurance decision only determines who has to pay the player, i.e. The company pays or manly pays.

The cap decision is the nrl's to make, and that ought to be based on whether the player can play or not.

Yep, this is my understanding. Best example is choc. NRL took his salary out of the cap when he retired but insurance didn't pay out. The two are seperate. Correct me if I am wrong, but the NRL lead doctor used to work at Manly so I am sure he understands the chronic nature of both Snakes and Matai's injuries. I think both will NOT be counted towards the cap and Manly will pick up a mid season signing or two like the Titans ...
