BRETT Stewart is expected to return to Manly training on Tuesday in a desperate attempt to continue his stellar NRL career.

A chronic knee injury has long threatened to end Stewart’s playing days, but the champion fullback refuses to give in.

It'll be interesting with him next year, very awkward. Wonder if they'll put him in the side because from what I've heard Uate and Kelly have been good

Not really sure how I feel about this. On one hand I say good on him and he at the very least deserves the chance to reclaim his spot in the team. But on the other hand I wonder if Snake playing on into 2017 is the best thing for Manly.

I still feel that we're actually better off going into the new season with a fully fit Tommy Trbojevic at fullback, but its a tough one.

The big question is, if he plays rubbish, do they send a legend to Blacktown?

Good luck Snake ... wish you all the best.

One thing for sure, if he is back training it would only happen if he has been given clearance by his medical specialists to do so .... that is interesting.

Note the strong determined quotes by snake and his coach supporting this breaking news

This story has whiskers on it

They could send him there, guarantee he wouldn't lace a boot up for reserve grade though. Could be a messy situation if it comes to that.

You could be underestimating the bloke there Mitch. He wouldn't be the first champion to play reggies and he wouldn't be the last.

The odds are against him, but I'm not writing him off until the fat greek starts singing.

I hope I am mate. Hopefully it doesn't get to that point where that is where he is forced to play. I guess the first and biggest hurdle for him is just getting back on the park, which still seems unlikely.

Massive increase to Fortress Brookvale gate takings Farewelling the Champ round 1 and 2

and then gone

If Brett fully recovers, seems a miracle I know, but how would he go at Centre? I would think that his work rate in defence would be lacking, but his attack could be high quality.

I dream of the perfect world, where Stewart makes a break midfield, flys down the field, floats it out to Tommy, who takes on the fullback, but flicks it infield to the Prince who goes under the black dot!

And then I woke up.
