[Resurrected] Please, please Trent... Pick Tom Wright

Cleary ? Ponga ? If you are good enough you are old enough. Stop messing around and play the kid.Hes not a prop. This team needs some spark.

For every success there are 20 failures. A players temerment, luck, a ciach, team mates , injuries can all play a part. I want him around but lets test him slow. Why the rush, whats the short term objective. To improve our points differential and finish 15th. Nearly all good young pkayers get eased in . Ponga did at the cows

He's been getting 'eased in' for too long ... imho ... put DCE at hooker and him at 5/8

Now is exactly the time to play him. We are not playing finals and have nothing to lose. You seen the size of this kid? He’s a powerhouse!
Whats the alternative? Start playing him next year when the results really matter. Let’s have another Croker/Walker 5/8 experiment and risk another season being flushed.

The rest of this year is about trying things and seeing who can cut it. Another 10 games of Brown, Wright , Parker will be a very very bad joke.

Ponga was eased in because the Cows were winning comps, not fighting off a spoon.

Play him where he can effect the result. Give him the rest of the season at 5/8. It might escape some people’s attention but we lose every week so Tom missing a few tackles and learning his craft matters not.We are now officially the worst defensive side in the comp. Tom missing a few learning the rigours of first grade is irrelevant.

The only positive out of this nightmare is that experimentation can occur with no downside. If you don’t blood him now he will be learning when results do matter.Hodkinson is done. In real terms Tom Wright is our only decent proposition at 5/8. Use his talents.

Agree with this and hopefully we find a way to get Fainu in as well.

Walker is due back next game and Suli went well last night until injured . Would be a promising option having Tom Wright and Walker inter changing in a 5 /8 - centre role , but then who to drop out of Kelly . Suli . Uate or Jorge for the remaining three outside back positions .

Kid has talent ... undoubted ... but it is still a hard road ahead.

First touch .... show and go .... try. Next 2 times he tried it he was nailed. That one move will now be on every opponents watch card.
It will work again because he has the speed and swerve to sell it, but it won't get easier.

Exciting times ahead

He's got many more tricks up his sleeve Woodsie. I've watched Ponga and the skills he shows and Tom Wright is just as clever. He just doesn't seem to commit himself as much as Ponga, perhaps because of a couple of serious injuries he suffered when he first came to Manly. But he is that sort of player who can create something from nothing in an instant. Any small gap and he's through. Good awareness of his supports too. Good short kicking game and the speed is very deceptive...almost seems that he's running casually and suddenly he's past a player. He and Tom T could establish a dangerous partnership if they are coached well. He had a fine partnership with Anderson, who is also fast and strong in U20s and is presently in the Reggies. Manly have some talented kids on the rise if they can keep them and get the right coaching to link them effectively. Barrett wasn't thinking clearly when he failed to give Tom Wright a chance earlier and also have Anderson in the 30, along with Fainu, Funa and probably Cust. Instead he kept good second graders like brown, John Wright, Matt Wright etc and the aging Uate.

The most impressive part for me was not so much the try. It was the quick hands to get his outside player down the right flank (something the commentators highlighted) followed by the searching run across field that put Turbo in space, a better line from turbo back towards the post would have resulted in a try alternatively a better pass to Kelly rather than the one hand hook pass would have provided the same result. He showed variety and his speed and game smarts created chances for both himself and others

With one dynamic run where this kid took the line and made total fools of the Dragqueens defence is surely enough evidence that this boy deserves a chance to build his career, yes its true!! defensively he has much to learn but he will have learned more tonight in the 60 minutes or so that he played that he would have learned in an entire season at Blacktown!!!

Seriously with the first touches of the ball he equalled or bettered the first few games of the great man Toovey. On that basis we need to give this kid more game time. I believe what we saw last night is enough that this site and it's members will have a big and long love affair with this kid.
Good onya Tom! That was awesome. Made a miserable night a memory, well be able to "do you remember when he scored his very first try for Manly"

Actually, though I understood Barrett's earlier statement that Wright should be a centre, not a 5/8, given some issues he had, I think Barrett is mistaken here. Wright has all the qualities to make him a top 5/8. Just needs more defence coaching, and encouragement regarding using his skills more often in a game. Someone mentioned interchanging Walker and Tom Wright between 5/8 and centre, and I suspect that's a potentially effective measure. If Hodko's body cant handle the game pressure, Barrett should serious consider that option.

Sometimes when you are in a dark place like our team is right now, a flash of brilliance like we saw with Toms try gives you hope for the future. It was put on a higher pedestal when you look at the five minutes after the try and the negative tactics used that threw that initiative away. He is a big part of our future!!!

Agree .... but I am seriously over this if coached right comment in every post ... (not specifically you) .... who does everybody thing has been in charge of coaching for the past 3 years for Kelly, Fainu, Anderson, Paseka, Tom, Parker ...... it is because of the coaching they are getting at Manly that we are raving about them not the lack of it ...

Statistics mean whatever you want to interpret them to. Kelly was left high and dry several times by his teammates in defence and attack today.

Please don't compare obscuring numbers to foster your your love of TW and pathetic criticism of Kelly.

TW did good today, Kelly was let down by others a lot.

Be humble, not arrogant.
Kelly still had the opportunity to cover defend . Cover defence is part of the game .
Kelly missed more tackles than any other back in the game
Kelly has been known for his defensive lapses in the past
Be humble and accept those facts your self and not be ingnorant

We just have to get Fainu into 1st grade then rotate him with Hodkisson whilst Wright slips into 5/8.
It's probably not that simple but it sounds easy when you write it. lol

You are a goose!

Typical response by a weak person that plays the man not the ball and throws insults behind his keyboard like a key board warrior
You have no guts and no class Woodsie . You think you are tough by calling peoples names but you are as weak as piss . Keep hiding in your bunker and behind your avatar Key board Warrior because that is the only place that you are safe in
