[Resurrected] Please, please Trent... Pick Tom Wright

I think what @BOZO was getting at is that it was the wrong choice for Barrett to take Jono Wright to Gladstone instead of Tom Wright.

It might not have changed the game result, or the strip club incident, but in what world is Jono Wright a better emergency than Tom Wright?

I'm guessing because the travelling emergency rarely plays - so it's better for all concerned if Great Wright Hope plays ISP - Blacktown are better off and he is better off with another game for fitness and experience. Why just take him around the country as a handbag when he is clearly needs to be improving his craft by actually playing ??

IMO The Great White Hope has more natural attributes than Journey man Jono any day of the week .
What the great white hope doesn't have is a coach to instil the confidence and belief in him and give him the opportunity ahead of a journey man . Tom is big enough to handle the NRL , fast enough to cause damage and young enough to thrive at the opportunity .
I wont change your view and you wont change mine and we will agree to disagree .

I've seen Tom Wright play quite a few times. I've seen him have a shocker one half and a blinder in the second half. He is that sort of player.
He has to be given a chance because we have run out of other options. Apart from Walker at 5/8 who I believe went well - and didn't we beat Brisbane and Melbourne with him at 5/8? - Croker and Hodkinson have been failures. The only other alternative is to try Kelly at 5/8 with Parker and Suli in the centres....
However, we should give Wright a try. But we also shouldn't judge him too harshly if the things he tries don't all come off. He is an attacking player, which is what we need.
It looks to me like this team is coached not to lose rather than coached to win. That strategy has failed us. Much better to go for broke and play a traditional Manly attacking style of football. We need to score points.

My feathered friend @Chip and Chase calls him the Great White Hope and I call him the next Immortal
Lets give the boy a go and see what he can do at NRL level !!!

@BOZO you might need a visit to specsavers - it's Great Wright Hope......because there are a lot of people putting a lot of hope in this kid. He's got some silky attacking skills but he has a way to go before you can christen him the next Immortal.

I actually would like to see him given a decent shot for a game or two, just to see if he can make the step up. I wouldn't be against him replacing Uate now that the season is cooked and Aku is on the way out next year. Let's see if he is worth investing more time and energy into.

I'll think you'll find defence is the area we are more often struggling, not attack.
Panthers are coming first and have only scored 8 points more than Manly has.

Defence wins comps.
Simple as that.
Tigers 05 is the abberation.

Surely a coach worth his considered value, would be at this stage saying 'the season is finished for us. Lets start planning for next year with the players we will have with us and need the experience'. My understanding is that John Wright is going and I think Matt Wright is finishing his contract. Uate is out the door. Hodkinson is at best a stop gap. Croker will probably not be resigned. Brown and some other forwards are heading out. So what have we got left we can develop in first grade with an eye on '19. Its regrettable we have a bunch of reserve graders occupying the 30 because it would have been wiser to have Anderson, Cust, Fainu etc available this year as replacements. They may have failed but at least we would know their worth by now. But as we don't have that, so what do we have. Taupau, AFB, Api, Jake are the basis of a good forward pack. Thompson is improving. Lane and Sirro look good potential as long as we can keep Sirro on the field. There are couple of others worth holding onto but we need another tough forward. In the backs we have DCE, TT, Walker, Kelly, Taufua. Then there's Suli who will develop, Parker, who I think would be better in the forwards or in Brown's role and Funa and Tom Wright.

OK if we know who will be here next year, lets stop promoting those who wont and use the ones who will. Forget Matt and Johnno Wright. Forget Brown. Forget Uate. Invest in the '19 season by giving the players who will be here, lots of game time this year. Sure use Walker as 5/8 now that he seems to understand his role there. Use Tom Wright in the centre or wing and leave him there. Use Hodko only for emergencies. Same applies to those heading out of the club. PRIORITY needs to be given at this stage, with the season lost, to those players who will at Manly, not those leaving.

Agree.
Expect to see Lewis, Jon Wright grace our colors again.
Barrett is an unimaginative spud, which has been proven time and again.

Wonder if Tuberculosis will give him any decent time or whether he warms the pine for 70+ minutes.

Finally yes he has some defensive issues he has to work on but what has Barrett been doing all year? He should have been picked all season as a utility. Don't be surprised if he leaves plenty of other clubs trust young talent we seem a retirement home with Barrett in charge.
