Des had a plan for 2023 and this has been a part of it all along the last 2 years .Schuster will be ready for 2023 to move us to the next level which is winning the title .We can all put our opinions in next year after watching our team perform to the level we need to be at .We are still a chance this year so let's go Manly .

Reynolds' performance last night (and Souths' performances all season) have shown that experience can be a very good thing for a half. Beyond that, Foz's second stint with us has proven that he doesn't belong anywhere else. At every other club he's played it, something hasn't been right. He's ended up busted, injured and under appreciated. He's supposed to be at Manly. If we can make it happen, we should.

I do think we have to get over this. It really is severely limiting.
If the club as a whole had more of a continuous Manly connection it may not be so much of an issue. As it stands it has been the coaches who have continued the Manly line. We have private owners and the footy club is largely sidelined and even the leagues club doesn't seem very central to the NRL business. Maybe with the COE now at Brookie that may change a little?

Meanwhile it seems Matt Ballin is continuing his coaching development, spotted him alongside Kevvie during the Bronco game.

Foz has been our best, most constant player this year, and no way hes going anywhere but manly. He should never have left, and he's not gonna make the same mistake twice.
Salary cap pressure rumours are bs, between Marty and walker leaving we'll have about 1.3m spare.
Also, schueys only gonna get bigger and stronger throughout his career, and imo his future is at lock, not 5/8.
In vlandys ball, lock has become a key position, which panthers have proved. If schuey wants money or a spine position he can find all of that playing lock, which he's more suited to.

And foz won't leave manly again.

Genuinely curious. Why does everyone seem to think Foz would make a good coach?
He is a very instinctive player which doesn't always translate to coaching - see Trent Barrett.
In the footage we see in the rooms and behind the posts, he is not a talker.
And his history suggests that he may not deal with the pressure of being a head coach.
Having said all that, he does sound very knowledgeable in post match interviews of what went right and what went wrong. So do you all mean assistant coach?
He would probably make a great coach as his success has come from ticker as opposed to freakish talent or athletic ability. All great footballers are instinctive but some have to work a bit harder. As a kid, there was no other playmaker who would put his body on the line like Foz.

Also compared to say a DCE, Foz has an innate understanding of straightening, digging in, drawing, playing the numbers game. He has a very high footy IQ.

And on a personal level, he seems to have the perfect temperament, and a good communicator. I remember listening to the players re his immediate influence on the team culture when he arrived back.

Purely speculation, but I don't see too many current players with this kind of potential for successful coaching

I wonder how many of the players reputably getting paid "upgrades " next season would consider getting a lessor upgrade as a group to keep the salary cap down so Foz could stay? and maybe getting a ....struggling to suggest this.... a back ended increase for the next 2 seasons to catch up.

Only assuming his contract under the salary cap would be no worse than $150K -$200K = 5 players taking a hit of $40K each, so pay an extra $20K each for next 2 seasons.

Guess it would test team comradery .

More importantly, how is a roster that is 9th-14th (and can't beat a top 4 team in years) unable to retain their better players (Walker / Foran)? We are so salary cap stretched we can't afford 375k for Foran?

We've signed absolutely no-one of note in years (and keep picking up these fringe first graders like Harper / Bullemor / Saab).

Our roster cannot afford regression. FFS, we don't even have a specialist Hooker at the club (possibly the most important position in the game in 2022).

Yeah it is hard to believe our cap is so tight with Walker and Taupau leaving also Jorge I can imagine retiring..

I wonder how much we are paying Tuilagi?

Too much. He's more of the same (large, lumbering, immobile forwards). We often get torn up the middle due to lack of mobility. Taupau, Keppie, Croker, Jake, Schuster now this guy.

We need SOME pace through the middle.

Jake is getting to much imo It also appears some fringe players may be getting to much. I would be releasing Harper prefer 1 more season of Foz than 10 more of Harper.
You realise if you release Harper, someone else needs to pay him? Who's going to do that right now?

We know DCE, turbo and Jake dominate the salary cap. Can only imagine the money being paid to Marty, Walker and Foran is being freed up to retain players internally. Haumole for one is going to need a big upgrade.

So yeah no money to make a splash with a big signing.

Explain that to me?

We finished 4th last year with this roster.

8th coming into this weekend, despite an indifferent start. Equal points with 6.

Yet the roster you would possibly rate as bad as 14th?

Hyperbolic much?

That's where we'll finish this season. That's my view. We are always too injured. We have an unbalanced roster. We are missing KEY pieces (hooker, marquee centre). We cannot beat a top 4 team. Broncos just overtook us (what's that tell you?).We are losing players now (Taupau, Foran, Walker, Cust)

Hyperbole as much as you like, we could drop to 12th-13th after this weekend, and I think that's a fair assessment of where the team as a whole is at.
