Whilst I get that he's got a limited chance to earn what he can, is it all about the $ now? Foz's kids are in Sydney, so I wonder if he'll forsake being near them to chase the money. After his failed stints at 3 other clubs, I'm hoping he follows his heart and stays at Manly where he belongs in his final year/s.

Do we have any well compensated players getting towards the end of a lucrative contract that might be able to take a bit of a haircut to keep Foz at the club ?
This is really crazy stuff...we are saving cap money next season on Kapow Walker and probably Boyle and Jorge, that's roughly 1.6m and we are into cap pressure.

Those 4 players (maybe others) need to be replaced, plus other squad members may be upgraded too.

Unfortunately we are in a position where we have three players who are on absolute top dollar in the competition for the position they play - halfback, fullback and lock. In my opinion it's a result of substandard contract negotiation, and it means it will be a bit more difficult for us to maintain a squad with quality players all across the park.

Very true, this really has rammed home the dilemma that we are in and continue to be.

Surely he's on par with Reimis Smith and Momorovski, yeah?
You don't think they're just keeping a spot warm for someone better do you?

Honestly, Parker and Harper aren't bad. They are both okay. But okay doesn't win you a premiership. Stephen Bell / Steve Matai (Lyon at 5/8), then Jamie Lyon / Steve Matai wins you premierships. I'm not bagging them per say, what I'm saying is that on a top notch roster, they are quality depth.

I DO however think full strength, possibly Koula / Tuipulotu might have that ability and ex-factor - but as others have said, form seems to change so quickly these days.

Foz is at the club because Brenda engineered it.
Prior to that he was an injury waiting to happen in every game. It's luck that the injuries have stopped.
He is two years older than when we last signed him.
He is largely responsible for the DCE big contract.
He tries his heart out wherever he plays. It's not just a Manly thing and the way he left the club last time shows he is anything but married to us.
I love having him in our team but age really is a thing and anything more than the amount we're paying him (not sure that the Brenda legacy is still in play) is a massive risk.
Good luck to him.

I'm pretty ambivalent to this one.

Fine with Foz staying on 1 year deals as his form is currently good but also happy for him to go if he gets a big multi year deal at another club.

The time is about right and my concern is Forans drop off could be steep and dramatic and happen at any time.

Fox has been on relatively big money for the last ten years. Plus he has a dad who is a multi millionaire. Doubt that it is about the money. Can see him staying for 300K and moving into Walkers role and being a backup for Josh S.
Coaching role after that.

Would like that outcome.

Bit of lock, bit of hooker cover

Keeping foz is a difficult decison. With schuster, humphries and latu coming through having 2 ageing halves seems to be the wrong move

Foz however offers a difference that the most of the others dont seem to have. humphries seemed to have time and reminded me of hastings as he went about his business in the trial from hooker

If schuster is to play 6 it seems that latu, and DCE are probably more in the 6 mould than a 7. When someone suggested humphries might be an inclusion this week , i was pretty happy as he seems to offer a natural difference and shows he is probably closer than we think

Letting foz go seems to be a no brainer on paper but currently his impact is way to big to replace with schuster. He brings things manly have lacked for many seasons and with walker also leaving its hard to see how manlys game can evolve relying on youth , DCE and maybe an out of nick manase fainu

In fairness foz has played this season like a man looking for a contract . It brings the best out of many players. Signing DCE up again 2 years out continues to throw up more questions than answers.

Unless humphries continues to develop to become a game manager, and schuster plays back row, DCE to 6 with latu replacing chez i just dont see then plan.

Our composure rather than skill level needs addressing and it seems that at 33 years of age DCE is finally trying to learn the craft of being a 7 . But has the horse bolted

Last night’s game should be a warning to clubs thinking that older, experienced and composed playmakers can be subbed out for youthful promise.

Even Nathan Cleary took a few years to get to an elite level and he is a super talent.

Be careful what you wish for...

And a lesson in keeping the fight half based on whats more important

Cody Walker is great playing second fiddle , but means bugger all if the first fiddle is in Queensland

We should not commit to a new deal for Foz just yet, Manly doesn't need to rush on this.
If he can't wait till a bit later in the year and wants to take up another offer, all good, we will make do with alternative plans.
Ideally though he powers on this year and gets through the season, and is prepared to stay one more year on a modest deal, because even if Schu takes the 5/8 spot Foz is perfect cover for half and 5/8 and Schu gets injured quite a bit and DCE goes on rep games.

And while I'm sure Humphries has potential, I don't agree that we can draft in a junior half and assume to still be a serious challenger. We've tried Croker Elgey & Cust all highly regarded as juniors or rookies but none looked convincing in the halves at NRL level. It's a much harder gig than it looks.

Agree what you say about halves and humphries but if foz goes we wont be getting anyone but youth for the same coin or even close. If manase makes an apperance , lawnton can still play back up 9 leaving frog as a possible halves sub, but if not its a policy of youth i would imagine wth a DCE and schuster combo . Signing another backrower points to this somewhat

Forans cheap arse deal based on desperation is a once in a generation deal and his all round value has been almost bitcoinish and close to impossible to replicate.
