Foran IS a better half than Cherry-Evans, always has been. But if DCE continues to replicate that raiders performance on a consistent basis, I'll reconsider.
Foran has the limited skill-set but plays more direct and structured with power( the way his legs are going and general injuries will be limited to an execution of backline play ball player minus the explosive power)

DCE has the all round game, improving his direct early flat ball playing and playing the floating 5/8 role takes the pressure off his shoulders to be seen/expected to be the controlling calming half.

DCE's performance can drop off a fair bit when not playing behind a rolling pack and in some quarters seen as a flat wicket wonder but you can say that with most halves to a fair degree.

Can throw too many lazy running sideways (i'm managing the team around the park) under passers in the past when the team wasn't rolling forward and still needs to play more straight, simple and direct at times.

I would take an injury free fresh oldschool Foran to build a more structured consistent team who has that on field leadership presence over DCE, but these days seeing Foran physically and mentally breaking down there is more long term all round benefit in DCE.

Manly need to retain and continue to bolster a good amount of punch/power through the middle to take advantage of the all round skillset of DCE otherwise the inconsistency will return big time.

On top of that DCE's effort plays and application is top notch and going to another level under Barrett.(mind you always gives 100% but taking a more leadership by actions approach more so these days)

I love a flashy half. Give me dce, Blake, Gibbs any day over foran or hasler types.

I know a team needs both solid and flashy, but at the end of the day I remember the thrills.
Hasler and Foran are not the same players other than Foran displaying some never say die efforts in his first few years that have backed off now due to injury and conserving himself.

Hasler had very little ballplaying in him other than a distributing halfback/link to his 5/8 along with taking on the line through the middle, pretty much the same as Toovey, both were very limited as players.

Foran could only dream of throwing that perfect pass for Walker for the first try against the Raiders.

In a good side, you'd take DCE any day. In a solid, run of the mill side, you'd take Foran.
That pass was the combination of a good out line being run by Dylan in timing with the perfect ballsy, flat, out ball delivery, probably a rehearsed play to isolate Croker when he plants and turns his shoulder in.

Foran throws face balls and out passes also on the left but not so close to the try line in the past, also never had a centre who ran those explosive sharp lines.

Also check out Manly's last try against Souths in the 2014 finals series, double face ball across three defenders to Cheyse Blair for an example of what Foran is capable of delivering if provided a more roving role.

The trouble with Foran is that he has never been able to capture the performances of the first two years. This is partly attitude, partly injury, partly external issues, but more importantly he does not seem to have developed his game to the next level. Still an outstanding player but he is not performing as well as his first two years while DCE is improving his skill base year by year, eg kicking game including more 40/20s, outstanding passing game across to unmarked players, solid defence, kick and chase in Thurston's style, backing up along with TT any breaks. DCE is a better player than he was when alongside Foran. Foran is not a better play since playing alongside DCE. Yes DCE makes mistakes, and relies on a strong forward pack, but every good half in the game does, even Thurston, Cronk and Pearce. By the way I consider Pearce one of the very best at the moment, despite his critics.

Fiz is still being hampered by that shoulder injury, plus fears ripping his hammies so is limited in the kicks he takes.
This and his variable mental state makes his Dogs contract look high risk 😎

Foran at his peak and not suffering injuries still performed behind an ageing, lacking explosion and punch forward pack. Manly's lateral spreads(in general go forward plays) were off the back of Foran to generate soft go forward on the edges, also in the red zone held up the inside defenders to give time and space to DCE on the right before delivering crisp quality ball.

Conversely with the amount of skills DCE has, the ability to blow teams away when provided with consistent punch in the forwards is much better, potentially leading to and already seeing more convincing winning margins.

Pearce is a quality half, always has been and is blamed way too much for NSW's poor showings.

I do agree with Technical coach. it is all about the pack that we have and there is a big difference this season compared to the last 2 and a half seasons that we have consistent go forward and DCE has more time to play his game. Foran I feel had the world at his feet and his body is not going to allow him to full fill his potential.

TC you are saying nothing that I havent canvassed. I'm not disputing Foran's performances during those first two years as being top shelf. They were. But since then its been down hill. Whether he ever gets that mojo back is conjectural. But I've seen nothing in recent years that suggests he is still the five eighth he was

Id say he has played four top games in the last four years.
He had it, but that was a long time ago. He is a massive risk and its great that the eels and dogs have / are paying him massive money for that risk.
For me it would be like paying Leyton Hewitt to play on the tour, he might win a few games but he probably won't see the year out.

That game against the roosters I believe in 2011 where he basically carried the entire team on his shoulders for 15 minutes to get us back into the match I won't be forgetting soon. He was a great player for us, but his heart wasn't in it in the end. Now that injuries are catching up with him he will never be quite as good as he was, but I think he'll be enormous for the dogs next year.

Forans good/great years went beyond two years, just that his high intensity involvement was backing off, at first to prolong his career then in the final season and half or so a poor attitude was on display----even then he was providing good lateral go forward plays and holding up the middle for DCE (and the entire right side) to benefit from.

It's not about who is the better player in an overall sense which would be DCE more about the style of play you want to build a premiership around.

Been a while since we posted here, and given the Johnston problem and calls for him to be shipped out straight away thought I'd bring this back to the top again.

Good luck Bullscum

Good luck Ha$ler

Good luck " the Kennel"

You are going to need it.

Kieran Foran

He is an elite player of the game. The Warriors helped ‘rescue’ him for this season. He owes them a big end to the year. However if his pointless kick downfield with three-and-a-half minutes to go against the Panthers and with his side down by eight is an indication of where his head’s at, then I would struggle to pick him again. It’s just business and the Warriors have to put the club first. Look for a big performance from Kieran against the Cowboys on Saturday night.
