Too many pessimists on here aren't leaving room for the possibility that it is actually us going cold on signings. A lot of clubs realise that with the cap increase a great many players have tried to keep their options open until now so that they can make an extra buck in the silly season, so the clubs that have kept their powder dry have more options now.

Thompson himself didn't deny talks with Manly so I don't see why you would say the Mole made it up...

No I agree we were in talks with him but they may have broken down for a myriad of reasons not because we are after a supposed big fish. I will say I'm not impressed that our recruitment strategy seems to revolve around hoping that players under contract can get releases. Why were we not in the market 3 or 4 months ago when we could have signed any number of big fish who were off contract. To sit on our hands and do nothing and now pin our hopes on players being basically discarded from clubs and dress it up as big fish doesn't seem wise.
