The Exclusive Member's Zone

What about them? They are making a choice that they are entitled to make, just as those who support many teams in many codes are making a choice, just as those who choose grog, smokes & lotto over other things. I have not and do not criticise ANY of them for making their choice, but you can't criticise the club for excluding them from a members benefit of receiving information about the players a few minutes earlier than the general public.

There has to be some offering that enhances the value proposition for becoming a member and this is part of it. People are making way too much of this Members Zone stuff and it seems to me are very very quick to find fault in EVERYTHING the club does.

The point is, @Ralphie - you said in your original post that the only reason people are not members is because they choose not to be. That's balls, I know from personal experience. And while I couldn't really care less about getting my hands on little snippets of information a day or two before everyone else - using 'membership' as some sort of gauge of whether someone really supports the club or not is a total crock of ****.

Umm ok, show me where I said "using 'membership' as some sort of gauge of whether someone really supports the club or not" or anything remotely similar. In NONE of my posts in this thread have I criticised anyone for choosing to not be a Member. Be a member or don't be a member I really don't mind, all I am saying is don't criticise the Club for offering a snippet of news early to Members.

I'll also rephrase my earlier statement, the overwhelmingly vast majority of those who are not members are not members because they choose not to be. I will acknowledge there will be an extreme minority for whom it is not a question of choosing different priorities.

Look, I think this is now done, can we move on to the next thing we are going to be outraged by.

Pretty excited to just join the Interstate Manly membership along with my young fella, will definately be at the Brisbane/Titans game as a bonus....Hope to see plenty of Silvertails at the BIG Games!

Reread what you wrote in your original response to @Budgewoi Eagle

Your reference to 'supporters who DO financially support the club vs those who DON'T financially support the club' was a pretty blatant dig. As was your assertion that anyone not buying membership is spending the money on alcohol, cigarettes or gambling. Maybe (like my dad) they're working three jobs to claw their way out of the ****ty situation they were born into, and feeding the kids and keeping a roof over their heads is a bit more important than a cap and a lanyard.

@Budgewoi Eagle made fair points and solid suggestions that didn't warrant being called an utter crock of sh*t.

Thank god the NRL's overblown membership campaign didn't exist when I was a Westie houso kid growing up in the 80s, the abuse was bad enough without the extra 'show us ya membership' being chucked on top.

your criticism is of smokers ,drinkers ,and lotto users. Is just talking about most rugby league fans apart from young kids and pensioners who can't afford much but want to be fans of a working class game.

Paying members should get more benefits than supporters who do not contribute financially. Otherwise the only reason to be a member is out of love for the club. All this stuff comes out quickly anyway so i really do not see the issue.

You assume incorrectly that I am criticising. I did not criticise, I merely pointed out that they are making choices. My assertion was and remains that at $1.58 per week for membership if you can afford grog, smokes & lotto then you are choosing grog, smokes & lotto over membership. Once again people seem to be reading things that aren't stated.

You are simply wrong about my post and are assuming that I am having a dig. For the record my post said "The cost of membership is about $1.58 per week. I'll wager a bet those very poor souls you describe above still find enough money to buy their carton of grog and perhaps even a pack of ciggies, put in their lotto ticket yada yada. Membership is so damn cheap the only reason people aren't members is because they choose not to be."

Now if you read from that a criticism of anyone then you need to re-read my post. My post simply states the fact that membership costs $1.58 per week and so anyone who is spending their money on discretionary items such as grog, smokes & lotto instead of a membership are doing so by choice. Please please please tell me where that is a criticism of anyone.

Don't be disingenuous @Ralphie - the 'poor souls' (as you call them) were the disadvantaged groups Budgewoi Eagle referred to in the original post - you decided to tar them all with the same brush i.e. not having $1.58 to spend on a membership because it's all going on booze, ciggies and lotto.

For people who don't have any discretionary money to be tossing around - because it's all going on food, shelter etc - that's pretty damn insulting.

Whatever, you clearly have a life's frame that you view this stuff and I know nothing I can say or do will change that. It's pretty insulting for you to leap to conclusions and then not accept what I am saying in very simple clear and concise wording.

Think they do - just an hour later.
And the difference being that membership goes directly to improving training facilities etc for the Eagles. It's a specific choice to be part of the club. It's counted by the NRL and is most definitely looked at in terms of a clubs current success. For that reason, the club rewards it. Without members their will be no club.
Crowds come and go based on the teams perfromance. Members are a real time kpi for the NRL and Manly.

If you can afford $13 a week for beer and chips - Is $1.58 a week really an issue?
Yes because it's $14.58 a week.

If you are insulted by a completely random, anonymous person on an internet forum, then you are doing internet forums wrong.

And clearly the same applies to you. You obviously don't have a frame of reference that allows you to understand that some people do it tough due to circumstances beyond their control.

Oh, and when your 'clear and concise wording' is to dismiss views that don't coincide with yours as 'an utter crock of ****' - that's not a flaw in my comprehension skills, sweetheart. That's you being an arsehat and not wanting to own up to it.

Didn't say it applied to me personally, nor that I was personally insulted by it. I'd say if that's the only contribution you have to make - ad hominem and completely off topic - you're probably missing the point of a 'forum', internet or otherwise.

Interesting point ... was the 9's team announced first in the elitist members only zone or did all the plebs find out at the same time?

Hey fella sea eagle lovers..good to be back on here after visiting relos across my beloved png..nun of them had internet (we are very poor in some areas) and i missed all of the news.
