Will the NRL allow us to sign him on a reduced deal?

This. Perhaps DCE has said, I'll reduce the final two years by 400k if you give me another two. It's certainly possible.Maybe from Manlys perspective its to negotiate a reduction in his salary for the next two years

Yep, it was the first thing that came to mind when I read they were extending him. Everyone wins in such a situation. It has to be; makes no sense for manly to entertain it at this stage otherwise

IMO, there's no way the club would entertain an extension three years out without gaining an immediate advantage. Also, if he gets injured later in his career, they can medically retire him. DCE doesn't have any pre-existing injury complications at this point.he has made noises over the last season or two that suggest he isn't comfortable with the pressure his contract brings
Very good interview. DCE didn't duck any questions.Player Media: Daly Cherry-Evans

- DCE gets increased financial stability for 4-5 years.
- Manly get salary cap relief.
- DCE becomes a one-club player.
- Manly maintain stability in the squad
- DCE improves his profile for life after football playing career.
Is that still a thing - hows Benji going at minimum wage... that seems to have gone missed by the NRL if it is still the case? Will the NRL allow us to sign him on a reduced deal?

Yeah, I was confused by the second best tag as well...Wow! Reynolds is also a level above him.At the moment top 3 halves
Cleary
Hughes
Sam walker
Dce isnt close to these guys
Only guy to replace him would be Reynolds but the chips wont fall that way and Cherry is Manly and can be better than Reynolds
Everybody seems to forget about the Rabbits! They get plenty of help on and off the field as well. No, the Roosters/Storm rule is only applicable to the Roosters and Storm.
Agreed, when players/clubs apply for medical retirement it should be made very clear that they will never again have a contract registered in the NRL.Yep. Inglis back playing in the UK and Sam Burgess talking about a comeback next year. So much for career ending health issues and injuries. What a rort.
Inglis was not 'medically retired', he simply had enough and retired in the conventional sense. I have no problem with Inglis coming back out of retirement, but Burgess is an altogether different story.Yep. Inglis back playing in the UK and Sam Burgess talking about a comeback next year. So much for career ending health issues and injuries. What a rort.
He is a greedy mercenary and won't accept anything less than what he is currently on Especially with a new Brisbane team going to push up salariesThis. Perhaps DCE has said, I'll reduce the final two years by 400k if you give me another two. It's certainly possible.
