I find it hilarious we keep hearing the same crap like another poor year from DCE. He was voted on here as our best player last year LOL. He was at the top of the leader board in the NRL for try assists and line break assists in a poorly performing side. Two poor games and he has been underperforming for years. I remember Sirro making a what I thought was a sarcastic reference last year during an interview to the lack of repeat sets. DCE needs to lift those around him by giving them space and opportunities and lifting their confidence with a good kicking game and repeat sets. That's what I would expect of him if he was my captain and earning the lion share of the cap.

Siro needs to lift, he is very ineffective these days. I agree with repeat sets, kicking game, making simple errors. DCE needs to improve big time and get this out of his game.

You see, if you search the forum , the problems in DCE games have been written about for years. Not hate, not new problems but the same stuff you say have creeped into his game recently. Now that is funny.

Does that make them opinion ?

I must thank DCE for letting his "only recent" failures match the writings and criticisims posted years earlier, to not make a few silvertails posters , growing to a mountain , look bad . What a champ .

I presume he spent all summer deconstructing his game management , as a personal favour to me after conquering his "headless chook" to please other posters from 2018 . In 2017 off season he practised not running the ball to the line to preserve his body and did away with his short kicking skills to appease other posters . Another big shout out for that

If i had known how hard he tried to please i would have voted for him . My bad .

But he has improved in trying hard, doing it all, face balls when down by 30 , mid field bombs, interviews and being a nice guy . Oh and all round form just before origin .

The best players in the game have a very small margin between their best and worst.

DCE can play like a state or origin genius occasionally, like he’d struggle to make the Blacktown team a lot of the time - but mostly just like an ordinary half most of the time.

Cleary 2 years ago looked very ordinary playing in a team that didn't make the semis. Last year they were playing a lot better as a team, brought in Api and were winning games,hence cleary looked much better.

Are there any top halves in the game playing well in sides that are struggling to win. Roosters, Melbourne, Penrith etc are playing good footy across the park, full strength sides, coached well and playing well as a team. They also have star studded teams. When Manly managed to field a full strength side and were playing with confidence for games in the past couple of years ( which is so few ) people were talking us up as contenders. Cannot expect us to play like that atm,unreal expectations. I agree that DCE needs to improve though, the first 2 games this year totally unacceptable. Worst I have ever seen from him. I just feel we can still turn it around. Just is frustrating watching the team and DCE play like that when they can obviously play much better

Our entire team is inconsistent. I’m not really judging our team performance too harshly tho until Tom comes back. Is it 70 off % of games we win with him playing? That figure is enormous.

James your back! Not my votes mate, all the commentators, ex players etc say DCE has been playing good footy over the past years in an injury hit side under achieving. When we are winning it quiets down,when we loose all the DCE haters come back out again and say he hasn't played a good game since 2013. Laughable. Utter crap.

I agree with that chez needs to take the line on more, everyone knows the concept behind protecting your playmakers and most assigned the task do it well and cop the hospital balls from their play makers every now and then, Chez is selling the hit way to often, respected halves take their fair share, I cringe at how often he throws the ball to someone else to get whacked, or to save himself being whacked, can’t be helping team morale much and if there is any resentment at the pay disparity then even more so. Even Moses takes his medicine every now and then. Statistics are about the past, the game is evolving and players need to evolve accordingly, chez has been a first grade half back for what? 10 years or so, this won’t be the way forward in the future, persisting with players based on statistics over form won’t work, leg speed won’t last and the game is only going to get quicker, leg speed and youth will dominate, the panthers are proving this to be true. Chez still has qualities to offer the team, i think he can do this from 9 for us, particularly given our current situation, I’ve said before it might refresh his game, can’t hurt if it’s not the answer we can resume with a recognised 9 when one of ours becomes available again. I also think he could be a better captain in that role, it’s more autonomous which eases his play making stress. He knows the game as good as anyone and should be able to provide us with opportunities and go forward out dummy half. His kicking options should also be more effective. I think most of our go forward and attacking issues are stemming from our dummy half play, can’t keep going with Croker, his not a hooker, never will be And the truth is we’re in strife until we do something about it.

DCE has tended to be more inconsistent as his career has gone on. Sure, lots of players in this team and many other teams have been inconsistent, but DCE stands out because of the position he plays - we always expect more from halfbacks - and the money he's paid.

It also doesn't help that the difference between "Good DCE" and "Bad DCE" is so stark. I'm sure I said it years ago, but sometimes it looks like he's never played a game of rugby league in his life - he has no control of his body or the ball and absolutely no positive influence on the match. He's the little girl who had a little curl, right in the middle of her forehead. When he is good, he is very, very good, but when he is bad he is horrid.

I think it should be a dire situation for DCE (and he should be focusing on nothing but football right now). He needs to simplify, and seems to have too much going through his head.

1. Relieve him of the captaincy, and give it to Jake.
2. Tell him to focus on his game / nothing else.
3. If form continues, offer him to the Broncos, who are desperate for halves.
4. If no takers, Blacktown, regardless of pay packet to build confidence.

He took the line on heaps on the weekend but was just not effective, as he catches the ball too flat with defenders up in his face. he dummied and went himself or took the tackle, because the outside backs were also flat footed and not deep enough. Cleary, Munster, keary have all been catching the ball out the back on the run and have more options to go to.

Dez needs to fix the structure. Too easy to read. Doesn't help with a crap hooker who cannot hold defence up a little. When Tom gets back and Walker to centre we will have more options, hooker though still a problem. I dont care who is playing half in current Manly team, the attack is just not threatening. No speed. Edge forwards do not offer any punch either. It is what it is. DCE can fix his kicking game, get rid of some of his errors, not going to fix the attack though until we get Tom, Faniu back and edge forwards getting over the advantage line. Walker also needs to get back to centre and get some early ball.

with siro out, no one knew who had to cut back inside and never ever pass in the new setup.

Croker did it once, and imagine his surprise when he fell over the tryline and scored a 4 pointer!

No wonder he (nor anyone else) tried it again for the rest of the game!
