Didn't the nsw media do the same thing to Jamie Lyon? Memory is fuzzy but I thought they complained and complained that the game's best centre didn't want to play origin.

Eventually he relented, nsw lost...and the media got stuck right into him..?

I thought that he was selected for rep duties almost as soon as he returned to the N R L for Manly and which resulted in some quite ordinary performances , then received quite a bit of press criticism . Shortly after then declared that he would no longer be available for rep games but this was not influenced by his rep form , just a desire to spend more time with his family and to preserve his footy career . [ and this did work in Manly "s favour for sure ] N S W could have no doubt benefited from his stellar form for Manly in latter seasons but no doubt that his decision to opt out of future rep football back then did slightly prolong his Manly career and to provide much more value for the club in general

Good to see DCE getting a little bit of love. His mental strength to deal with bashing from all quarters is titanic. Hopefully getting picked and getting a bit of love will help with some mojo for club. Even our fans bag him for stuff that he can't control. I've said it before and i'll say it again. To me he has always come across as a good bloke that is immensely talented.

And for all the detractors that say he should somehow have the team on his shoulders without help, name me a team that has a single good half that is a premiership contender. All quality halves need a quality foil.

Look at Cronk who would be considered a benchmark. He has keary at the moment and previously had arguably the best hooker of all time and one of the best fullbacks of all time (it hurts me to say those two things ) and always had serviceable or very good 5/8s (Finch, Gareth Widdop, Ben Roberts, Maloney, Green, Munster). That's a pretty damn good list of foils. Coincidentally in 2014 when they had their probably worst 5/8 in ben roberts they bowed out from the finals in the first game getting flogged by the dogs. So one of the best halves of a generation needs help yet we bag DCE for needing help.

DCE has been the victim of a concerted character assassination ever since he backed out of the Titan's deal, a club at that time being financed by the NRL and in the pocket of News Ltd. He's been consistently bagged by the QLD Mafia and every bit of gossip that can be used against him by journos, who should know better, is aimed at putting him down. I'm not suggesting he's a saint, and he has probably made some poor judgement calls. But anything negative that can be found is front page news. Unfortunately we on this forum have fallen for this bagging as well. As Hitler once said 'If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed'. I think many of us have fallen for that truism in respect of DCE

Then for the next couple of years (at least) they kept on wanting the NRL to stand down Killer from Manly games during Origin because they reckoned he should be available for NSW.

It wouldn’t surprise me if some (now retired) Qld players *did* have an issue with DCE. I mean - can you think of a more clique-y, wanky group than some of that lot?! Scam

GI lies about his origin eligibility so he gets to play rep footy with the clique, the whole lot of them passed that hideous Cougar creature around at previous Qld camps...maybe getting rid of some of the old guard has made a bit of space for players with a more normal outlook on where football and your footy mates fit into your lifestyle?

Still reckon it’s an absolute hiding to nothing, they lose ( which they will) and the passport will be re-stamped “ never to play again”.

Only way he’ll even be considered a winner is to score two tries, and win it for Queensland in the last minute with a field goal.

And even then it will be only temporary as I bet they go back to Hunt in 2019.

I don't buy into the argument he's going bad because of no specialist 5/8...that's bs !
He doesn't need baby sitting or feeling sorry for ...grow up people, he is just fine.

If anything a more effective dummy half instead of a 5/8 would solve a lot of Dce's problems.
That's why I'm big on the idea of Dce himself going into D/half where he can control the game exactly how CS controls the Storm.
I've said this before, he is a quick thinker, reads the game well, and fitter then anyone else so why wouldn't it work.
Imagine Dce facing off against CS Saturday week from dummy half ?
Dce would be more effective then both Fainu or Api in bringing the outside backs into play, therefore our chances of winning become a lot higher.
TB should rule with his gut feel because his heads not doing it.

I think Origin might suit his style of footy. Very fast-paced with few stoppages in play. He'll get some extra room to play his natural game.

Pleased for D C E that he has been given the opportunity again and that he can go well but personally based on form and consistency for this season think that Ash Taylor was more deserving and i again stress this season :s form and not past seasons . Will be interesting if he does stand out whether Manly :s game plan then should be twigged a bit to get the best out of him consistently at club level . Manly have had a fairly well performed forward pack in most games this season so this has not been a reason .
