The Anthony Seibold Grievances MEGA THREAD

We had a good coach in Flanagan but we let him slip through our fingers, we kept the wrong bloke. Saints were a basket case before he took over and I won't be surprised if they finish higher than us.
Problem there was seibs signed him and not penn
Signed by seibs as assistant with clauses

We just didnt rate him ( flanno)

I'm not sure it's coaching guys. We've had:

Trent Barrett
Des Hasler
Michael Monaghan
Geoff Toovey
Anthony Siebold
John Cartwright
Shane Flannagan
Jim Dymock
Chad Randall

and many, many others (all different types and price-tags) coach us over the last decade and we've averaged 10th. When will people realize it's the roster?
It’s the ownership mate and it’s been like this since penn took over..he has no idea and the last 10 years have proven that

I think a lot of clubs rated Flanno but at the time he was signed by Seibold he was damaged goods and many clubs seemed too scared to give him the head coaching job due to a fear of stakeholder backlash. Seibs gave him the soft relaunch for his career, and St George were sufficiently desperate enough to take on the baggage of Flanno’s past. It seems their decision was a good one.

I tend to think that if we miss finals again, we should look at both a head coaching, and a number of playing personnel changes. Since 2016, we have had a turbulent period, particularly after what was a very successful preceeding decade. Anthony Seibold is clearly an intelligent coach however, footy is results based. Let's face it, us Sea Eagles rightly have high expectations. In such a circumstance, I think Brad Arthur is in the conversation. Also, any reason why John Morris seems to be a pariah? Did I miss something as he looks like he has a heap of ability.

Player wise, we need to move away from stop gap players and get back to that Manly tradition of growing our own special ones, then signing some key big ones in the mould of a Ben Kennedy, Jamie Lyon, Mark Carroll, or Ian Roberts.
Like your sentiments, but that's a tall order getting those type of players to the club. Got mixed feelings on developing our juniors, we bring along say 5 good ones only to see some of them poached by other clubs. Case in point, the Fainu's, all went on mass for one reason or another after we poured lots of time and money into them, even supported one that was stood down for 2yrs or more. That just left a bitter taste in my mouth after that. Anyway lets just see how the remaining games of this season pans out, hopefully after the bye a recharged Turbo can reboot our season omce again.

Good post

Well we have scored more points against the Panthers than any other team twice this year now that is something you could certainly be happy with.
Especially since the second game was a home game for them and the ref basically put his whistle in his pocket when the Panthers were defending.

Manly look great in attack and like the old Toyota cup under 20’s side in defence. I like Brad Arthur as assistant to try and work out our defence. At the stage I would also consider Michael Chiekca as he might like to cut his teeth as an assistant and Siebold has some rugby ties.

I'm happy with many of the prettier sides of Seibolds coaching, but want to see some tougher, uglier side to bring back the resilience we lack, as this is the killer in every loss....
Seibold has Manly playing some good footy....but a little like his nature, there's still a softness to the team that shines brightly in the tighter games, when we seem to fold before the opposition when in an arm wrestle or under pressure....with the gutsy win at home vs Storm the exception.
If Manly had won 2-3 of those close games that should have been iced, I feel the same ppl bagging Seibold would be singing his praises.
The thing I will say I would like to change, too many excuses and lack of accountability are made after every loss and some can call it protecting his players, but I love old school toughness and a higher bar of expectation at these moments and that's where the Bellamy, Flanagan types excell and generally get the responses for ripping into the players when not playing with 100% commitment.
If you want to be the best in anything in life, expectations must be high and would love this area improved....this will be reflected with how much we lose in the ruck, both in attack and defence as we are just off the pace, which effects everything from momentum, kicking game line breaks and reversed in defence....harden up just that bit more and will be a serious threat again....the players don't seem desperate enough and I feel Seibold can improve himself and the side greatly with added steel in that ruck area...hopefully a genuine hooker like Simpkin was a great idea and maybe a good start to improve this.

I honestly think the simpkin signing is a good one. From what I have seen he is a crisp passer and loves a dart. Could reignite our season.

I can’t for the life if me see the sense in starting Brown at prop and Jake at 13. Seibs has this arse about. I’d like to see Simpson at 9.

Just like Barrett, Siebold plays too many out of their natural, specialist position. This is why they both have similar winning records with us.

I'm going as far to say we lose this weekend, the seasons on ice, and we may as well just let the youth play the rest of the season to blood them....

Problem is we've let most go to re-sign the ageing, regressing plonkers we have.

Will find out by Sunday afternoon right here on Silvertails Sheikeagle :wait:
Simpkin will either be the the new Harry Grant.....or the worst player to lace up a boot, with no in betweens 😅
Please @God , use your divine powers to extrapolate a win for us against Flannagan.

I actually think Simpkin will do alright mate. Just hope Siebold uses him properly.

Ideas for Siebold:

1. Jake is not a lock
2. Garrick back to wing
3. Hope Simpkin works at 9
4. Blood Arthur / Humphreys / Simpkin
5. Play Bullemor WAY more
6. Re-align acquisition / retention
7. Lawton back to NSW Cup
8. Burbo back to NSW Cup
9. Play Arthur in the 13 (we need more speed / skill
10. Humphreys in the 14 - blood him
11. Kudos with Hoppa. Keep him until Turbo returns
12. Talau to centre, way more experience than Garrick
13. Don't extend Woods, Lodge, Condon - we need more pace / mobility.
14. GCKT needs more NSW Cup confidence
15. Upgrade on Waddell, Burbo & others.
16. Must gets: marquee prop. Marquee backrower
