Salary Cap Witch Hunt. **Appeal unsuccessful**

If no illegal activity was found by the police, what the heck is Greenburg carrying on about wanting to know who was investigated. As if the NRL have a better understanding of the Law and think they can do a better job than the police. This is disgracefully heading towards intimidation and serious defamation by the media and Greenburg. I say to Manly take them on, take them to court, demand that the Manly name is not damaged by further scurrilous innuendos. You damn well had your investigation Greenburg and found nothing. Back off you foolish little man

Sea Eagles owner Scott Penn says club never did anything wrong
Jon Geddes, Manly Daily
October 27, 2017 4:59pm

SEA Eagles owner Scott Penn says police have acknowledged that the club should never have implicated in an investigation into alleged NRL match-fixing.

Manly has finally been publicly cleared of any wrongdoing following and investigation into match fixing by Strike Force Nuralda which started in 2016.

“I was always confident the club had no involvement in such matters,” Penn said.

He said from the Sea Eagles perspective it was always a nonsense and that the club should never have been brought into it.

‘I have met with the police they told me face-to-face it was unfortunate it played out the way it did,” Penn said.

They have acknowledged to the club that the club should never have been implicated in the investigation because it was always in relation to individuals outside of the club itself.”

Penn said while the club has been cleared that did not diminish the fact that the club has had two years of uncertainty.

“It is bitterly disappointing for the shareholders and the board and all of our staff who have had to deal with this for the past two years when it should never have happened,” Penn said.

“A lot of people have had to defend a position they shouldn’t have had to.”

Turdburger doesn’t have many skills as a CEO but he can certainly mangle the english language.
Can we agree on one thing that the crooked ,oily, bald headed , platinum coated ,24 CRT c@&t that is masquerading as a CEO has to show a kernel of credibility and apologise profusely to Manly and its fans for what had been nothing short of a vindictive baseless and ultimately futile which hunt that has turned up a donut.Come On Greenburg own up and admit you were wrong and wave that white flag.It may just be the highlight of your otherwise totally insipid, inept and uninspiring NRL career.
Do the right thing Greenburg

This is a blessing for Manly. After all the law suites Brookie will finally get an upgrade.

Watching the ABC the other day, and they led the sports bit with a report of all the shady shiit going on with Manly, Parra, and Souths. While she trifled on, they ran a blurred vision of Manly playing and also training at Narrabean. It was quite obvious who the team was, and to top it off, whilst said tart kept blithering on, they ran the vision again.
This morning I noticed on their bi-lines at bottom of screen they ran a bit saying something like, everyone's been cleared of any wrongdoing. That is followed by the next one that said the police had found evidence of drugs, gambling and other illegal activities?....So which is it?.....and Fuuck you ABC regardless for targeting Manly.😡

The issue is that there are probably drugs, gambling and other illegal activities going on all the time among certain players. But that has nothing to do with the club if they are not involved. And if a sponsor is responsible then hit the sponsor. So they should investigate players, yes, but that should not automatically suggest illegal activities by the clubs. When players are caught, the club doesnt pay a fine, the player does.

So why investigate the clubs for that type of activity (unless it can be proved they were involved). What started out salary cap fraud is now about snorting coke. Fair dinkum, the League needs a rocket up the derriere.

The media and NRL are getting desperate because they cant find anything relating to salary cap issues so they have to chase something otherwise they look like the witch hunters they are, to justify the fortune paid out to continue this facade for over a year now..

In re to salary cap:
I think they might find a few issues and the club will face a fine. Nothing like Parramatta though.
I don’t think so.

Unless you have the facts at hand, it is unwise to offer that sort of speculation.

I don’t think Ray Murrihy would have given the outfit a clean bill of health on the governance front last year over match fixing, if there was any hint of impropriety over the salary cap. Do you?

I think @Batty was quoting a Phil Rothfield answer to a fan question in Buzz's blog today (that started at 1.00pm).

If this investigation is indeed a damp squib, then our owners need to get on the front foot and savage this piss poor NRL administration team for making the club go through this Claytons investigation based on a bunch of hearsay as evidence. If nothing comes of this GREENTURD MUST GO!!!!!!

Roy Masters admits the media were duped somewhat! Take a photo, its a rarity! This quote alone probably deserves its own thread, but its going here. I paraphrased this from his article on the shonky investigation that Manly was smoked by:

''It would be hypocritical of me not to say the media, including my own paper, swallowed the police bait, running front-page stories of the gambling, drugs and use of prostitutes, while downplaying the news that police found no evidence of match-fixing.''

No mention of the damage to the Manly Brand from Masters @

....
Perhaps there were some operational reasons why it would announce the beginning of an examination into information regarding unusual betting patterns at three NRL games, detail provided to them by the NRL. Nevertheless, it was a departure from standard protocol and had a damaging impact on last year's Origin series.

...
Greenturd's doing all along :swear:

"The NRL are keen to develop a working relationship with NSW Police but top officials are privately seething at what appears to be deliberate and sustained attempts to rain on rugby league parades."

OK Roy keep going and say something like ... and what appears to be a deliberate attempt by the media & NRL to damage Manly's reputation so that they are hard pressed to find sponsorship for a team not funded by pokies and the misery they bring .... pr*cks!!

The way I see it is that those involved in the genesis of this story, are all trying to save face and justify the monies spent on fighting shadows @

One of the NRL’s longest-running sagas is set to end within weeks as NSW Police prepare to close the book on the match-fixing investigation.

The Australian understands NSW Police are likely to formally announce the end of the investigation without any charges being laid, removing at least one of the dark clouds hanging over the NRL and Sydney club Manly since last season.

2017-10-17 Former Manly NRL player Brett Stewart wins defamation action over match-fixing claims

Former rugby league player Brett Stewart has won defamation action against News Limited over an article linking him to match-fixing allegations that appeared online for a few hours before it was taken down.
.
.
Police set up Strike Force Nuralda in September 2016 to investigate allegations that six Manly players had been given secret payments of $50,000 to manipulate the outcome of matches, following suspicious games against South Sydney and Parramatta in the 2015 NRL season.

But police discovered no evidence of systemic match-fixing, and turned the focus of their investigation towards an alleged trade in inside information and salary cap breaches.

2017-10-26 Spotlight on Manly Sea Eagles over salary cap allegations

by Kate McClymont,Nick McKenzie

While detectives from the NSW Organised Crime Squad found no evidence of an organised conspiracy involving players fixing matchers, they did uncover a widespread trade in leaking of inside information from club insiders to punters. This is a criminal offence punishable by up to two years in jail. No charges will be laid as there is a six-month limitation from the date of the alleged offences occurring.
