DCE BACKS BEST FRONT ROW IN NRL

Marty Tapau isn’t a bloke you want to run at.Source:News Corp Australia

Manly captain Daly Cherry-Evans has declared his side’s powerful starting front- row pairingof Martin Taupau and Addin Fonua-Blake the best in the NRL. Taupau and Fonua-Blake will be reunited on Saturday against Canterbury when the latter returns from a two-match ban for the Sea Eagles.

Cherry-Evans won’t be on hand to take advantage, with the incumbent Queensland halfback ruled out for up to six weeks with an ankle injury. But speaking before his syndesmosis blow, Cherry-Evans hailed them as the league’s “premier” pairing.

“I hope they don’t read this, but I think they’re marking their place as the game’s premiers front rowers,” Cherry-Evans told AAP.

“They honestly are. They’re a great tandem, they work well together and against each other. They certainly push each otherto be better.

“I wouldn’t swap them for anyone ... it’s making my life far easier as a halfback.” The figures support Cherry-Evans’ claim.

In the combined 87 minutes of their opening stints on the field together this year before one goes off, Manly lead their opponents 42-6.

The Sea Eagles also have a combined for-and-against of +25 in the 128 minutes they’ve been working in tandem, compared to -2 in the 437 minutes when at least one has been off.

The pair also lead Manly for average run metres, with Fonua-Blake’s 168 per game the second highest of all forwards in the NRL according to Fox Sports Stats. “They might be racking up big stats, but I can guarantee you they’re not playing for themselves,” Cherry-Evans said.

“I think that’s why they’re playing so good, because they’re not worried about what metres and what post-contact metres they’ve got.

“They’re trying to work field position for us and they’re trying to work quick play-the-balls.

“That’s the biggest improvement I have seen from those two players, the way they’re playing for the side this year.” Taupau also said he’d noticed a difference with the pair this year. “You can definitely see it and feel it when we are on the field with the boys,” Taupau said.

“It gives our outside backs and halves a lot of confidence to run and assess the line on the run as well.

Wow, if Api is out then this will definitely be a real test for Des and the boys.

Missing:

Turbo
Taufua
Walker
DCE
Api

That's more than 50% of our regular starting backline and 75% of our spine.

If we win this, it'll be momentous!
Thank Christ we're playing a crap team then :D

Late Mail: Api Koroisau is battling a calf injury and if he’s ruled out Manase Fainu will be asked to play 80 minutes. Bulldogs stars Kieran Foran and Dylan Napa have both been named to make a possible return against Manly, and foxsports.com.au understands Napa is the more likely of the two but a decision will be made on Friday after the captain’s run. Michael Lichaa will be the man to make way if Napa returns. Foran was expected to miss 12 weeks with an ankle injury but has only been sidelined for four. “ He’s actually got some Wolverine healing about him,” Bulldogs teammate Will Hopoate said.
Surely we have Zach Dockar Clay come in for Api with Fainu starting. There's a reason why we got an exemption for him...

Dylan Napa has been cleared to play this weekend, and whilst Kieran Foran was close he will be given another week before returning (via Daily Telegraph). Will be a 4 week return to play for Napa after suffering a moderate grade syndesmosis injury. If Foran returns next week would be a 6 week RTP after surgery on a syndesmosis injury

On the Dogs game this Saturday, there has to be plenty of confidence of a Win regardless of some star players out....but hopefully not too much, as in expecting things to come easy.
The ONLY thing I feel is any danger, is the fact the team has been up and playing to their ceiling under Des in relation to enthusiasm and energy.
Probably should not enter my mind based on recent efforts, but feel playing against a team we are expected to beat, can at times, have that effect on a side to drop that bit of intensity.
The forwards should really roll through this pack and give our untried halves partnership enough time and space to create plenty of opportunities.
Just don't want to see Dogs get out the blocks well and grow in confidence.
The fact we have AFB back and watch for Miski to be Super enthusiastic and add that bit of Zest....we should be sweet.
Expect Api and Fainu to create absolute havoc out of dummy half....and Waddell to continue to grow with offloads and 1 or 2 line breaks.....the halves and back rowers should plenty of joy around the Dogs edges after winning quick play the balls.

The most important order of the day, is to dish out a big defensive effort and these rewards will come.

I agree 100%

I agree with you as well feathered friend

On paper Des has no names playing above their weight and playing big games that contribute to wining games against more illustrious opponents

The Manly Sea eagles spirit is a lethal weapon and it is back !!!
