I think a better phrase is assembling a team, building a team requires real coaching skills.

He’s leaving the 15th team for the 16th. Tigers have more upside, not a smart chap.

Yeah sure they get a lot of new faces at dogs next year, but I don’t see a consistent cornerstone player apart from Burton.

Be nice if all coaches were given time to do that. The problem being that clubs these days - all clubs, not just the Dogs - tend to expect instant results. And the coach is always a target.

We gave Dessie 3 years ... given many of the comments last year and earlier this year ... and that has turned out to be a good idea ... I think any coach going to a team as busted as the Bulldogs by definition needs at least 3 years to build a roster and implement systems ..

Yeah, assemble/build, get, borrow steal ... at the end of the day just get it done ... the coaching will be judged over the next 2 years ...

My amature bad moral judgement is not a benchmark for a so called wonder head coach like Trent .

All his signings for this year have gone backwards. There was hope that they'd be a chance for the 8 this year...Allan off the back of SOO and a strong finals series at Souths was going to be a great fullback with a good pass; has struggled on the wing?! Flanagan was the next Nathan Cleary due his kicking game and composure; is languishing in reserve grade. Hetherington was a much prized signature after turning down the likes of Manly and Warriors; gives away penalty after penalty due to no brains and poor technique. Cotric was going to move one in from the wing and challenge for a Blues spot again; has been mediocre.

Fair point Snake. Hetherington is the only one who has actually played OK when on the field except that I think he missed 5 or 6 weeks due to suspension, plus given away many penalties, so pretty much exactly as anyone would have predicted.

Dogs fans would surely have been hoping for a lot more from Allen, Flanagan and Cotric. I think Allen is a pretty talented player so not sure what's going on with him.

Allan played SOO in 2020 on the back of his play under Bennett when Latrell was injured.

He's really struggled since joining the Dogs and has played a lot of Reggies.

They've had their injuries but they've also played a fair few games between them. 12 games for Allan and 14 for Cotric out of a possible 17 games is not a fair bit of the season. Allan was given a shot at fullback but was dropped accordingly. Cotric only recently suffered his injury and was ordinary in the lead up to it.

Surely they are also paying the Warriors some of Watene-Zelezniak's large contract too?
