I can only think Maguire thought they needed to chance it more in attack, with options other than Jake.

Embarassing for the captain though.

That's the only thing I can think of... but if the coach doesn't entrust him to do what he thinks is needed at Origin level, then either don't pick him as captain or don't pick him at all...

Pretty bewildering decision to have the captain play 29 minutes.

That back 4 have some size and speed, I thought Hammer was very strong in the one jumper, follows the ball and is always in support.
Yeah it’s amazing to think you could leave him out but Crichton and Cobbo were all class tonight (and are generally)… Lomax missed a bad tackle early on but generally is just playing at a very high level this year… Coates or Hammer - take your pick but Coates has runs on the board for mine… would love to see Edwards take the 1 jersey off Walsh…

Hopefully Maguire gets the parra job
Yes yes yes please. If he sees out his 2 years at NSW SOO it could be 6 wins to Qld.
As for young Joseph, 8 weeks or so, that was a shocker. (Not intentional obviously, if it was intentional he'd get 12 months!)

What do you make of the minimal minutes Jake played?

Yeo got more game time in that role.

I think it was because we were behind and chasing points… Yeo, Spencer and Guac were attacking options whereas Jake is a defensive chess piece…
Sucks for Jake as captain but I think Madge was chasing attacking options….

Not saying it was right, just what I think the reasoning was…

Coaching disaster. If you have a leader at prop who can play long minutes and defend like hell don't you want him out there as long as possible when you've lost an outside back?
Yeh it is very strange to understand the decision on the minutes he played, it leaves a cloud over Jake for game 2 selection.

Undercut Jake's leadership role in one fell swoop. The guy is inspirational in his workrate, why else was he selected if not for his value when backs are to the wall?... and backs will never be more to the wall than in this game!
(Or maybe I know nothing about footy, I guess thats possible!)

Didnt watch closely. Match was ruined by send off.

But not many changes for mine (Edwards for Tedesco as selected originally). I think Latrell will come in to the squad after he carves the Titans this week. Maybe Suuali will be dropped/suspended or moved from the top 17.

I see zero benefit to the team in swapping Hynes for Moses, they are the same player, but I understand why this could happen.

Api offers so much more at hooker than Robson who is just a clone of our own Croker. Some swapping around with Yeo and McInnes.

Any watch full 80 minutes able to tell me if Tedesco passed the ball during the match?

I had the exact same thoughts after 'skipping' through the game after the send off.

Direct contact to the head...sure. A player falling into it though, should mean 10mins, not a send off.
There's a reason there hasn't been many send offs in soo.
1 - they are ruled differently (usually) and
2 - the teams are so good that they'll simply wear out the team with one man down, as happened last night.
I'm sure the two-heads loved it though.

I had no probs with Tedesco being left out initially. The guy never, eve,r ever passes (well minimally).

I saw him do one tip on over the sideline and one hospital pass.

He either thinks he gets paid a bonus every time he catches the ball and doesn't pass, or he thinks if he shows the ball everyone will run off him and he can then score a try untouched.

I wish he stayed playing for Lebanon to be honest.

Took me 30 mins to watch the game due to the ref ruining it.

The match may well have been ruined by the send off but the officials can't take the blame for it. As soon as I saw the tackle I thought he would be gone. You can't hope just because it's Origin you will get away with everything

No one loves Jake more than I do, he's literally my favourite Manly player across all eras. But the fact is, Madge may have pulled him for reasons other than those already stated. Unfortunately, he was way off the pace in his stint...defensively speaking. He was getting beat at the ruck, just couldn't get into his rhythm. Even his contact was off. Not sure if it was a little overwhelming for him being named captain etc but I was quite surprised to see him giving up the middle so early.

Yuh. Not one of Galah Head Maguire’s better calls on the night.

It was a send off, they may have used a bit of discretion for origin and given him 10 and suspend him.

With origin tv audience numbers dropping year on year, this will not help bring fans back to the spectacle . So much build up to a game, hope, extinguished just like that. Its taken a big chunk out of the series.

The bean conters would have been called to channel 9 very early today i would imagine. not klein. I imagine they will want there own man with the whistle for next game Probably looking to have a reality show, farmer wants a new origin ref and a bucket of chook

Because it was always stupid to carry a 4 forward bench.

Jake 29min
Haumole 24
Spencer 25
Hudson 23

We didnt need Hudson, should of had Burton
I also think selecting mcinnes, Yeo and Jake is puzzling. They all kind of play the same way as a 13. This is why I think it was hard getting Jake back in. I wouldn’t have had mcinnes there at all. Yeo 13 Burton 14 and an extra prop for Young.
