Kane Elgey -->Manly√

We started this season with 1.
Hopefully super coach has learnt another valuable lesson, if he is still around.

The club see Metcalf as a future DCE replacement. I don't think he'll be getting FG experience next year and maybe even the year after that. T Wright will likely be in the top 30 next year as a backup half/centre and Cust might continue on as a junior half plying his trade. I think the club might be hinging their bets on 2 out of the 3 kicking on as genuine first graders.

Bearing that in mind, if Elgey does well then it'd be an astute signing. Cheap, talented and provides a fantastic option until our own juniors kick on. He'll be defending on Kelly and Thommo's side which has been fairly good this year compared to the right. Chez and Sirro coming back to the right side should stiffen up that edge as well. If Elgey fails, then we have some options available like Hodko, Walker and T Wright.

Spots in the top 30 for halves are going to be interesting ....DCE, Hodko, Tom W., and Elgey are already in ....... with Walker and Fainu possible emergencies ..... Cust and Metcalf would need to be brought in and 2 players currently there released ....

Can't see poor young Croker being given a valuable top 30 spot given the risk/reward ...

I think you'll find Croker only signed on for 2018, Woodsie. Unless they offer another contract he's gone

Elgey signing on for two years . . .
He has more faith than me that the club will still exist in 2020.

I would be very surprised if the Sea Eagles disappear. Too many reasons to keep them as the north shore side. Relocation is possible but I doubt it. The bottle neck of teams in Sydney has little to do with Manly. The problem is in the inner city region, including Sydney City, South, St George, Canterbury. If I was in charge I would be looking to combining Souths and SC, combining St George with Cronulla, not Wollongong, moving Wests permanently to Campbelltown, retain Canterbury, Parramatta, Penrith and combine Manly with the north shore permanently. That would also address some of the junior disparity. It will cause initial disputes but if the NRL remains firm, those issues will begin to fade in a decade

Mate I agree .... it was simply a response to an earlier poster, and the fact we have had no word confirming his status ...

... which reminds me .... you will be hoping a place in the 30 can be found for Anderson ....

Anderson? Absolutely Woodsie. I would have him on the wing from the beginning of the season, but I doubt that will happen. But he must be there and I understand, if Barrett stays, that the latter holds Anderson in high regard.

The good news is the 9's are back next year ..... will be great to see some of these young blokes have a go.

Every good show needs a villain - that’s us. We will be safe.

Anderson should definitely come into the 30 and might be battling Suli for a wing spot should Elgey get the 6. If they stick with Walker at 6 I would love to see Anderson on the wing.

Inner city? Um Tigers.

On 2SM a caller (presumably a Manly supporter) and asked who is our recruitment manager that signed Elgey?

Having a think about this as it's a good question.

1. In the presser TB was asked if Elgey had signed for the 2019 season and TB said he didn't know and to ask Lyle

2. Neil Henry has reportedly been sounded out by Manly.

3. Neil Henry was the GC coach during that DCE backflip period and worked closely with Elgey.

Tin foil hat time but has Neil been asked about the roster next yr, could be as coach or could be as a recruitment/list manager?

If TB is on the way out it is a good question as we have vacancies in the football dept so who is in charge considering our cap constraints which makes it even more important....

Elgy to Blacktown to learn how to tackle. The over priced speed bump. If he learns how to tackle he would turn into a reasonable pick up.

But dam he has some work to do on his D.

Wasn't Blake Green supposed to be an over priced speed bump when we signed him? It was only because he was coming from a successful (Grand Finalist) Melbourne team and had plenty of experience that we thought he would be any good.

And guess what? That's how it turned out for the year he was here. Not much defence to speak of, but proved to be an experienced foil that DCE and by extension the team needed.

LG isn't a great player by any means, but he isn't bad either and he is an actual half who unlike Walks has the skills of a half and unlike Hodko, he can run. Yes his defence is poor and sometimes he can literally drop the ball, but we haven't signed him to be a Jake Trbojevic like defender while handling is generally a confidence thing. Get him playing with confidence and his handling should theoretically improve.

I'm willing to give the kid a go. He certainly can't be worse than Croker was or Hodko has been and it will allow Walks to go back to centre where he's at his best. In fact, I'd say LG is definitely an upgrade on what we have now which isn't a bad thing.

Even though I want us to smash the Titans on Friday, I'm hoping that LG puts in a good performance and shows us what we can look forward to.

Exactly what i thought when I heard the signing.

If you are sounding out a new coach about halves pairing there's no doubt the coach Elgey played best under would recommend given the price he probably comes at now.

Not to mention he was all praise for him commentating the Titans game on fox this weekend gone.
