The problem we’ve had in the past have with our recruitment policy is being too short sighted. This is due to our coaches having KPI’s in their contracts requiring them to get results every single season. On the other hand, take a look at the Roosters as an example. They’re taking a hit this year, because the players they have identified (Haas, Robson, DCE) aren’t on the market yet. Robinson has job security at the club and therefore isn’t pressured into finding stop gap replacements.

Putting my pessimistic hat on for a moment, I look ahead a few years and it doesn’t look so rosy to me. We are potentially looking at a team that no longer has turbo or jurbo, an untried set of halves, an at best serviceable backline outside of Lehi, with nothing currently on the horizon in terms of emerging forward talent, including hooker. Hopefully there is more coming through the junior ranks than just Walsh/Large. The post Trbojevic/DCE world looks a tad scary to me. Mestrov sure has some challenges assuming he survives DCE-gate.
The next Lachie Galvin or Nathan Cleary is probably a Walsh, or Large time-line away from a debut.
By the time jurbo and turbo retire, the whole NRL will have witnessed the next value for money star.
At which point, we will have deeeeeeeeeeep pockets.

The Post DCE, Jurbo and Turbo era means; Time for development + Warchest = $ea Eagle$
