Jamal Fogarty

The problem we’ve had in the past have with our recruitment policy is being too short sighted. This is due to our coaches having KPI’s in their contracts requiring them to get results every single season. On the other hand, take a look at the Roosters as an example. They’re taking a hit this year, because the players they have identified (Haas, Robson, DCE) aren’t on the market yet. Robinson has job security at the club and therefore isn’t pressured into finding stop gap replacements.

Putting my pessimistic hat on for a moment, I look ahead a few years and it doesn’t look so rosy to me. We are potentially looking at a team that no longer has turbo or jurbo, an untried set of halves, an at best serviceable backline outside of Lehi, with nothing currently on the horizon in terms of emerging forward talent, including hooker. Hopefully there is more coming through the junior ranks than just Walsh/Large. The post Trbojevic/DCE world looks a tad scary to me. Mestrov sure has some challenges assuming he survives DCE-gate.
The next Lachie Galvin or Nathan Cleary is probably a Walsh, or Large time-line away from a debut.
By the time jurbo and turbo retire, the whole NRL will have witnessed the next value for money star.
At which point, we will have deeeeeeeeeeep pockets.

The Post DCE, Jurbo and Turbo era means; Time for development + Warchest = $ea Eagle$

Sounds like we're in the box-seat. I think we wouldn't be able to have Reynolds playing for two years, so Fogarty is probably our best bet.

The Manly Sea Eagles’ hunt for a halfback to replace Daly Cherry-Evans appears over after Canberra’s shock Jamal Fogarty move.

Manly are set to offer Jamal Fogarty a two-year deal worth more than $1 million with the Raiders unlikely to take up the veteran half-back’s one-year option for next season.

Canberra have until this weekend to let Fogarty know if they will take up a 12-month extension worth about $700,000. It is understood the Raiders would like to keep Fogarty but given his service to the club and the respect they hold for him in the nation’s capital, they are reluctant to stand in his way if finds a multi-year deal elsewhere.

That longer term contract is expected to be table by the Sea Eagles, who have identified Fogarty as the man to replace departing skipper Daly Cherry-Evans.

It is expected that the Sea Eagles will offer a two-year contract as soon as next week, with the deal believed to be worth about $500,000 a season.

Under Fogarty’s current contract, once the Raiders have waived their option, he still has until round 20 to can take up a deal to remain at Canberra for one more season.

That option is worth significantly less than the top figure he could earn if Canberra decided to lock him in. The lure of a two-year offer from Manly would likely be difficult to resist for Fogarty.

Canberra have banked on Parramatta recruit Ethan Sanders being the club’s long-term half. The young playmaker is currently sidelined with a fractured cheekbone but is regarded as a star in waiting by respected figures in the game.

Fogarty, 31, won’t be short of options with Manly leading the way. The Sea Eagles are on the lookout for an experienced half which will enable their young stars in Onitoni Large and Joey Walsh time to develop as their long-term option.

If they can’t secure Fogarty they could turn their attention to Brisbane’s Adam Reynolds, who is off-contract and has indicated he wants to play on beyond this season.

Manly are also considering switching Tom Trbojevic from fullback to the halves to partner Luke Brooks. The Sea Eagles will also soon open contract talks with Trbojevic well before he can talk with rival clubs on November 1.

Brooks is contracted until the end of 2027.

If you replaced ‘ Canberra ‘ with Manly and ‘ Fogarty’ with DCE all hell would breakout ! It would be classified as disrespectful to someone who has been at the club do long, or a low ball offer, …

Go soft on Canberra … but give manly a hard time!

$500k seems like a good price for us & leaves $250k spare from our DCE offer. Would be interesting to know how much guys like Sipley, Arthur, & Talau are on as they are all off contract after this season & likely won’t be back, somewhere between $200-$300k? Hopefully we can replace them with minimum wage guys & free up $450k (including DCE money) or so in total for a decent upcoming prop

Yes. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of overpaying on contracts. I’m not a fan of the Fogarty move but if we get him for $500k per year that is around $700k less than DCE now. Plus if (as they should) the Trbojevic’s take lower deals and we cut some deadweights we should finally be in a position to sign some marquee players in the market.
We’ve lost our identity in this area as I can’t think of many genuine marquee signings since Jamie Lyon.
We need to start with better, more aggressive and agile forwards.

The next two seasons will very likely bring back that exciting anticipation of a new marquee signing.
Plus the best juniors will see a pathway at Manly, as long as we $how the money

I wouldn’t be surprised if the NRL stepped in and said NO they are valued at a million each, we don’t accept anything less.
Tom is worth about half of his current deal at no fault of his own, his body isn’t up to it.
Jake is also worth a lot less now, he is still a great player but not the player he was.

I think we got dudded on their last contracts, they have said they can’t ever play against Manly but we still paid overs incase someone offered big money.

Jake, yes, but Tom was not paid overs. He would have picked up more from elsewhere. They both re-signed the end of 2019,so they were in their prime.

1.2 mil for 2 years is a great buy in my opinion. I like Arthur but considering he is a big body, I'd have him in my 17 instead of Waddell. He can easily cover backrow, lock and halves. At his age Fogarty is in his prime and is a genuine half-back.
I feel we will have a very similar squad in 2026 which will see us hanging around 4th to 8th again, but 2027 is where I see us having the most complete squad we have had in over a decade. To get Chez off the books, Jake paid as he should (600k max) Turbo hopefully willing to take a bit less, plus a few more players off contract, we will finally have some cash to spend where we need it, and that's up front and a strike #9. By that time we should also have Walsh and Large ready, hopefully at least one of them turn out to be as good as we hope.

Pretty sure he was at the titans when roosters played the raiders in the gf

Well there's a lot of optimism on here today. Fogerty is solid at best.

Can't believe we let Humphries go when the club knew DCE had requested a release and his contract was coming to an end.

Disappointing result so far. But then again that's seibold's entire career. Disappointing

Research who Humphreys manager is and you’ll find part of the reason he left/let go

Strange that the club when they recruited Arthur they haven’t put the effort in developing him into this backrow role that they purchased him for.

He goes to the line very well and can create opportunities, I would have liked the club to have given him an opportunity in the backrow to see how he goes there.
