You had absolutely zero idea that Manly were interested in him, so how do you know no other clubs were looking ?

So yeah, he deserves talking up because some on here thought he was just another scrub from the wooden spooners.

Mate, he's obviously exceeding expectations, and that's great. But that doesn't make him the world beater some are making him out to be (i.e. the example of why Tigers players coming can be so great here).

He's doing well. Consistent. Solid. Hard working. All the traits we need. I particularly like his transformation in body shape from last season.

I think it's reasonable people had trepidation, same as with this Simpkin fellow.

As a club, we need marquee, not quantity. I'm just not sure how Schoupp and Simpkin are going to help us dethrone The Panthers , and become a premiership threat, but that's just me.

I'm hoping he still has some of that Clydesdale type blood Matt Ballin brought with him. Ballin played for the Red Ants or something didn't he ?

You should also get in touch with the Panthers and let them know how poor they are going recruiting from the Tigers

Difference mate between trepidation and the “he is at the Tigers so has to be **** and will never be NRL standard” garbage that was trotted out ad nauseum

People need to temper their expectations in regards to signings, we have marquee signings, they are just the in house types with the 2 current origin captains, the former Dally M winner and Olakau’atu. Brooks last year is probably about as marquee as you can add to that group. Whether we are getting the most out of that group is a different story. The Storm haven’t made a major signing for as long as I can remember, all their big names are resigned in house

Go back to 07-11 Golden Period and we only ever added these types of players after the initial bolstering of the squad with Kennedy, Kite, Lyon and Orford. The likes of Robertson, Bryant, Hall, Rose, Rodney, Galuvao etc would all be scoffed at these days
 
Be interesting to see how his play is judged on ST
The tigers connection does bother some but it makes no sense
But our spine is continuely judged by its ability to unlock Cherrys game, which is “in the Vault”

It's people wanting the sugar rush of signing a 'big' name.

For mine I much prefer the model of bringing kids through like Olakau'atu and Koula or signing them just before grade and developing like Paseka, Garrick and Saab.

Also talk of all the marquees that have moved around. But your Farnworths, Fleglers and Hammers went to start up club with an open cap. Luai, Chricton, Mahoney Kikau etc to relatively barren squads. Papali'i only because the Panthers unexpectedly lost JFH. Roosters losing JWH, Sua'ali'i, Manu (somewhat), Keary.

Sharks and AFB the outlier....they did well there.

Basically if you want an 800k plys player, who you cutting (and possibly subsidising).

If.he does get picked to play it wouldn't surprise me seeing him having a barn stormer of a game. He'll be out to impress from game 1, as Waz said, if you want it bad enough...it's yours.
