Alls I will say. Is the head coach is more important than the

I don't disagree at all mate.

Just pointing out that everyone has been calling for more ex-players to be in the coaching equation.

People loved the rumours of Ballin coming back (and rightly so).

So I guess I am saying its a case of not being able to please all the people all the time.

If I ran the joint, I would have allowed Maguire his demands and brought in Ballin etc to handle the reserve grade side or even the 20's.

But what do I know......well besides more than Penn @:D

Seems like negotiations to bring Bennett to the Tigers are more advanced then being " reported " Maguire to the Broncos , maybe a bit more credence now also . Does not seem to be any recent or noticeable talk of Henry to Manly , though nothing can be ruled out of course . Really need some clarity on the coaching scene at Manly reasonably soon . Trent"s overall position and situation at Manly should also be definitely judged and accessed in relation to the fact that other clubs both here and overseas at this stage are hardly lining up or jostling for his services . Personally more concerned who Manly eventually have in their top 30 roster for next season , a competent coach is important but still have to have the right mix of competitive players for the club to be some type of a force next season . Mitchel Moses apparently being shopped around by the Eels [ reportedly on 900 k a season] Doubt that there will be too many interested parties .

If you chose to believe everything a rag like the Tele prints that’s your choice.

No I choose to believe what someone is quoted as saying and the proof will be in the pudding Madge will not be coach. If it's untrue, at the meeting the club stated they will be refuting media made up stories I wait with bated breath the media release from the club stating Madge hasn't said no. We all know how this plays out Carty has the job.

Holding out some hope that its not the end of the story yet with Macguire, Can only assume he's angling for the Brisbane position, will have to wait for coaching merry go round to stop before we see how the dust settles.

Appointing Cartwright would be a dumb decision but this is from the same people who extended him and barrett not too long ago. A track record of smart decisions they do not have and the club now seems to be constantly in damage control rather than actual proper planning.

Unfortunately Mark - the horse has bolted - by not allowing him more insight to more say in coaches assistants, he has been circled elsewhere and is over and out.
Manly has never been run like this in my 40 years as a supporter....Arko would had Barrett gone 6 months ago and Maguire would have signed the dotted line over a month ago.
Now a case of a last ditch attempt on Sheens, Griffin or get stuck with Carty.
The only way Arko would have had Barrett out six months ago was to pay him out, simple as that, there is/ was NO other way

I am not a penn fan however if the stumbling block is that maquire wants his own assistants etc. The penns would have to payout baz, cartwright, chad etc and as you know money doesn't grow on trees.

Any prudent owner thinks about that, before he doesn't keep is current coach happy, with a recruitment manager.

Just like having a recruitment manager, this is just the usual cost of doing business in the NRL.

A new coach always wants their assistant, a new player or two. Contracted staff and players get moved on by agreement, they get paid. It's never been put up as an excuse.

Penn wants to own a NRL team, and fund NSW cup side.

A footy club costs money.

This is worse than embarrassing. The club's death is nie.

No NRL franchise can operate like this, and stay a float.

On behalf of the Dayshift Dribblers .... Madge ain't coming here ... for the exact same reasons Barrett resigned ...... the circle jerk circus that is now Manly is not resourced to NRL stndards .... and apart from the smiling lip service there is no evidence that will change any time soon ...

But hey, all you heros continue to abuse and make up whatever crap you want to about Baz ...... future generations will revere him as a prophet of truth ...... build a Centre of Excellence in his honour ..... and observe an annual holiday called BazDay where effigy's of Penn sitting on an Ikea stool will be burnt .......

Until the Penns are gone we can't think about bringing the mighty back into the Sea Eagles. It's so bad that even the **** work experience coach Barrett quit on us. Can anyone remember the last time an NRL coach actually quit?

Exactly ...... the bum-sore like your good (but hideously ugly) self like to comfort themselves with the fairytale nonsense that he quit as some sort of plot to divert blame .....

Pigs tit people ...... he resigned because the place is resourced to local A grade level .... after 3 years of promises he just said Fukkit!

The Club notes reports in today’s media in relation to the future structure of its football department.

As was shared with you at our Member Forum on Wednesday night, the Club is in ongoing discussions with a number of outstanding candidates to ensure the highest level of professional coaching for its playing group in response to Trent Barrett’s resignation.

These discussions remain ongoing and as advised on Wednesday, the Club expects to confirm the outcomes of them in the near future.

As a part of this process, it became clear yesterday that the Club could not meet the proposed terms of one of these potential candidates, Michael Maguire, and negotiations came to an end.

The Club remains in discussions with several experienced and highly qualified candidates with a view to making this key appointment as a priority.

So assuming Maguire is out of the equation.... that leaves the options as...
-Des Hasler (unlikely)
-Geoff Toovey (unlikely)
-John Cartwright (hopefully not)
-Neil Henry (I'm not convinced we want him)
-Wayne Bennett (unlikely - I could cope)
-Ivan Cleary (not going to happen)

Yep. Penn even said they had a working bee on the gym, and people brought in some furniture.

From Silvertails to St Vincent de Paul's.

Whoever failed to deliver on promises made to Barrett in his Contract is at complete blame for all of this mess. It was unethical. Anyone in his position would be just as ****ty.

He needed a roster / list manager when Pearce was getting negotiated
He needed a roster / list manager after Moylan agreed to join us and reneged
**** me, he needed (needs) basic 2018 amenities, staff, equipment

The answer to who is to blame, is the same person/family who writes the cheques. ****, they still have the power/ability to quickly fix everything if they open their wallets.

+ Payout Barrett / Cartwright / Ferris (if that's the direction they want)
+ Acquire Maguire, but give him his staff, wage, authority
+ Come through with those promises in Barrett's contract for the next guy, and learn from mistakes

Is it that hard to comprehend for Penn? How the HELL did he maintain a successful business? I'd never part with money for his products or services knowing how little he manages his assets / investments !

Experienced is the key word here - please be Des Hasler. He rebuilt the club once and could do it again (without backend deals this time)

Sorry mat, but the club confirmed madge is out of the running in a statement this morning.

Club is still looking at other options.

Hear hear mate. Des would know exactly what he was in for too. Hopefully he brings back some fitness / recruitment / assistant staff as well. Imagine him bringing in Tooves as assistant again.
That'd royally screw the rest of the NRL over.
