So what part of this quote from Madge was made up? "I have informed them (Penn) that I’ve declined the opportunity to coach the Sea Eagles,” Maguire told The Daily Telegraph, “I’d prefer not to go into the reasons why."

Other journos like kent will be calling madge today so you will know soon enough if this quote is correct.

If a journalist ever blatantly quoted me, and I had clearly not said anything remotely like that, I would turn up on his door step and tear strips out of him.
Thankfully, in my position in society, no one has ever written an article about me lol

I'm desperately trying not to be naive, but surely you can't just quote someone if they didn't say it.
If it wasn’t attributed it might be a ‘source close to the deal said that Maguire rejected the offer without stating why’, or something like that.

It’s a direct quote. He’s rejected us.

We sure feel like the ugliest dude on the dance floor now.

Agree. He said it, and he won't be our coach.

Yes I do believe quotes from a person if it was a lie Madge would have refuted it. Do I trust journos no but I trust quotes attributed to named person. But keep believing Cleary or Madge is joining us and blame the media when it doesn't happen.

I don’t necessarily believe that BUT thinking the Daily Telegraph is the bastion of truth and fair play is actually unbelievable!!

If Bennett does go to the Tiger's then Brisbane have to act fast.

They will have to pick Walters, Demetreiou or Maguire.

If they go with either of the first two then Maguire really is left out and may not be as steadfast in his demands....

Unfortunately, we do not have the luxury of time to wait and see how the cards fall.

So its Henry for mine. The lesser of two evils.

What's darts like as a sport to tollow????

That's a straw man argument no were have I said that about the telegraph. This is the full quote
“I have informed them (Penn) that I’ve declined the opportunity to coach the Sea Eagles,” Maguire told The Daily Telegraph, “I’d prefer not to go into the reasons why.

“I haven’t spoken to anyone else.

“I’ve got a big challenge with the Kiwis and that’s where my focus is right now.”

So yes I do trust that quote. The drunk of course ads his own rubbish (about facilities) but that doesn't in my mind make the quote form madge any less genuine.

FORMER premiership-winning coach Michael Maguire has rejected a multimillion-dollar offer to coach the Manly Sea Eagles as Trent Barrett’s replacement.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Maguire informed the Sea Eagles owner and chairman Scott Penn of his decision on Thursday before leaving to prepare the Kiwi Test side for the Test match against the Kangaroos on Saturday week in Auckland.

They had been in talks for several weeks.

It now leaves the highly regarded coach in pole position to take on the head coaching role at either the Wests Tigers or the Brisbane Broncos.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the poor training facilities at Manly, which led to Barrett handing in his resignation, were a contributing factor in Maguire rejecting their three-year offer.

Barrett was forced to bring in his own outdoor furniture to use at Sea Eagles HQ.

Since being dumped by the Rabbitohs and replaced by Dally M coach-of-the-year Anthony Seibold, Maguire has been working for the NRL in a senior advisory role in the refereeing department.

His decision to reject the Sea Eagles now throws the door open for former Gold Coast Titans coach John Cartwright to take over from his great mate Barrett at Brookvale next year.

The situation has become farcical on the northern beaches with the Sea Eagles still to finalise a departure plan for Barrett who has handed in his resignation but legally must remain until July 2019 because of a clause in his contract.

Manly players — and fans — are becoming extremely frustrated by the situation.

The players return to training for the 2019 season in three weeks not knowing if Barrett will still be there or if another coach will be in charge.

The club has had three months since Barrett informed the board of his intentions to find a new coach.

While their premiership rivals are well down the track in recruitment planning, Manly is still cleaning up its salary cap mess and has no-one to determine which players should be released or signed.

Sad Sad day. The death knell of the Sea Eagles are ringing loudly now.

It's just more of the same incompetence by the Penn.

I am not a penn fan however if the stumbling block is that maquire wants his own assistants etc. The penns would have to payout baz, cartwright, chad etc and as you know money doesn't grow on trees.
It does if you are the Roosters, Broncos or Storm .....

I really think any coach other than Cartwright will be an improvement on Barrett !! Maguire obviously was the best option but if he wants to be so picky then his not the right man for the job cause the penns won't just sit back and let him do what he wants ! But surely the penns can't possibly sign cartwright as coach that will be a disaster !! (Someone said the club monitors this page I really hope they are seeing who we 100% don't want)

What a royal screw up.

On wed the club says they have a coach but won't say who.
On thur madge says no.

How must Carty be feeling, to be sloppy seconds?

Not to mention pretty boy Barrett being a nuisance. Great work management getting rid of Toovey to bring in an untried, rookie sookie who wants to grab extra cookie.

Could it get worse? The short answer, based on past form, is yes.

I'm stunned that people are so surprised we are not a club coaches or players want to come to. The question is how is carty a "proven performer"?
Carty is a proven performer - proven to be **** and useless for a long time now

What does he actually do? Defensive coach? Our defence is crap most games and we leak the most points of any team

Attack coach? A forward was our top try scorer last year which says it all

Mate let’s not get into a ****fight about pedantics.

I’m simply saying I don’t believe ANYTHING in these **** newspapers , written by absolute crap journalists who peddle innuendo and half truths to suit an agenda.

If you chose to believe everything a rag like the Tele prints that’s your choice.

Mine is different, when a club announces a player / coach signing I’ll believe its happening, until then it’s just bull**** click bait!!
