Hodkinson returns to Manly

Ok, now does he wear the 7 and DCE in 6 or the other way around? And does it really matter?

I don’t think so , one controls one side the other does the opposite , although I bet you find DCE moves to a roving role with Trent the first choice for the last tackle option, but quickly able to shift it if under pressure!

Hastings is on a back ended deal. !20 or so K last season and 350 this year , so then of course around the 185 K per season [ and providing he does stay the course this season for Manly ]

Hopefully Hodo can be more and provide more then just a depth signing. . Still am not sure whether i would have preferred Carney for a similar role at least for the remainder of this season but Hodo has apparently been monitored with his playing standard in recent times and has been deemed worth a shot . Manly , again despite their best efforts were not able to match the Bulldogs offer for Hodo around this time in 2010 . but the way D C E was performing at the end of 201 for the Sunny Coast feeder club , he would have really pushed or would have most likely been selected ahead of Hodo if both were at the club at the start of the following year . Of course history then resulted in a different outcome for both at different clubs then in 2011 .

I’m happy to have him back so we have a genuine 1st grade quality half and as a member happy with this signing.

Looking fwd to him linking with DCE.

But in the back of my head if as an average game then i think some will tear him a new one on here. Can we give him at least a 5 game hall pass?

Cherry and Hodkinson never played first grade together at Manly, though I think they did team up in the 20s in 2009.

After Ox left, everyone expected Des to bring up DCE to replace him in 2010. However, Des went with Hodkinson while Cherry was sent to our then Qld Cup affiliate, the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles. Hodkinson opened the year in reserve grade and didn't make his NRL debut until Rd.2 that year as we played Foran and Killer as our halves in the 26-22 loss to the Tigpies at the SFS. That game more remembered as we lost Wolfman for the season after he did his shoulder in the pre-game warm up, then lost Snake with an ACL during the game.

Hodkinson never actually kicked a goal for Manly, nor did he actually attempt a shot at goal. During his rookie season in 2010 our main kicker was Killer while Shane Rodney (15) and Steve Matai (1) did the fill-in goal kicking. He did kick 3 field goals though, two in the 26-25 win over Souffs at Brookie in Rd.15 and one in the 19-16 win over the Warriors, also at Brookie in Rd.24.
Tell me you don't remember that stuff off the top of your head @HoldenV8?! I've got the 08, and '11 grandfinals locked in, then it's google after that. @:(

DCE still needs to be our default long range kicker from our own end. Hodkinson just doesn't have the distance and will often find a players head or back when going for the clearing kick.

People mocked my claims in the preseason that the cowboys squad looked average and that they would not be any good this year.
You can see why people thought the Cowboys would be gunning it this year. They made the prelims with Scott and Thurston out injured and had signed Jordan Maclean as well. Who'd have thought that Thurston would struggle without the rest of his team playing well. When Manly plays poorly on the other hand, it's all Daly's fault.

It's not like Hodko will be our messiah, but he should help stabilise the halves, and take some pressure of DCE. Also putting Walker back to centre is a major bonus. I can see this signing really getting us back on track, and I believe we are now a chance to make the 8 after such a horrid start to the season. It also gives us some much needed depth, and having Jorge and Gojetski back in a couple of weeks will add to that. Things are looking alot better. From now on, it is only further injuries that can dent our charge to the finals. Go Manly!

I'm really happy about this signing.

We're not able to spend much until our cap problems are sorted so Hodkinson is a good buy considering his experience, skill and goalkicking.

He's not a world beater by any means but a good solid player who will compliment Cherry.

By the end of next year, we'll either have one of our own ready to step up or there'll be another big name off contract that we may be able to afford.

Either way, he's what we need for the money we can afford at the moment.

Good signing, its what we need at this point in time considering our salary cap issues. Does not hurt that he is a solid goalkicker either.
