Hasler

There’s an old interview with Reni Maitua where he talks about playing under Des at the Bulldogs. He stresses that Des was always a Manly man. Even though he did his best to win with the dogs his heart was always with the Sea Eagles. He may not turn out to be a messiah or a super coach but he’s family and he should come home. If he does come home let’s hope he brings Brett and Glen and Choc and Steve back with him.

And he can bring his mate Tooves back with him also.

DCE, excited by Des return....

They are different issues ... that's my point .....

Do you honestly believe Penn would be back tracking and burying the hatchet with Hasler if the situation hadn't been forced on him by the fan outrage, media spotlight, members meeting and the focus on club resources brought about by Barrett standing up to him ..... I don't know ... but as I siad, I suspect that 6 weeks ago Penn would have laughed in your face if you predicted the return of Dessie ...

So you are now indirectly giving Barrett the credit for potentially getting Des back to Manly. That is some stretch, but nothing surprises me when it comes to your love for Barrett. I get that he is a friend of yours, but it is time to let him go. He will never be remembered fondly by any Manly fan apart from yourself, so I recommend you stop trying to justify his appalling tenure as Manly head coach and get on board and make some friends complaining or rejoicing about the next one.

In a weird confluence of past, present and future, news and myth, I can remember my sport teacher Chris Dawson referring to Ivan cleary’s brother as our team’s “Dessie Hasler”. About 1984, beacon hill high.
So you were taught by him as well. He was my year 8 PE teacher at coombabah high. What do you think about all this stuff that’s come up now about him

@Wombat64 ..wombat ...wombat, your a fkn disgrace to ST mate, ..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Why are you here with the responsible adults instead of in the Coaches thread with the rest of us kids ?
Now get your hairy @ss (and before anyone says otherwise I have no idea if he has a hairy ass but fk look at his picture ) back over there. I have $500 on that thread making a double century before #nextweek which is #thisweek announcement !!!!!!!

Seriously though, love your work champ !!
Thanks I am old, confused and not sure where I am supposed to be ........

You must of missed the part where I said I don't know ... but yes, in fact I do believe that indirectly , the spotlight that has been shown on the clubs resourcing and the member backlash has lead to changes that would not otherwise have been made ..

Conanu ..... you have been around a while ... can you place your hand on your heart and tell me that you honestly believe Penn would have resurrected Dessie if he hadn't been forced screaming and kicking to that point ....

and old mate .... I will never just get on board or go with the consensus just to make friends .......

See Al .... this is the sort of misleading and incorrect nonsense that keeps getting repeated ... and opinions formed on nonsense ...

The clause was NOT in Barrett's favour ... both sides were req'd to give 12 months notice ...... and both parties would have to agree to it ..... and there is no evidence to suggest that this clause wasn't put in at the insistence of Penn. ...

and why the hell wouldn't Barrett be looking after his own interests???? ...... are you seriously suggesting that he owes the club that didn't provide the resources that they promised in order to get him to extend for a further 2 years any favours ....
Other key point is that any specific terms and clauses in Baz "s renewed contract arrangement were not made public to the best of my understanding , so i guess that we are all just speculating to a large degree what may or may not had conditions or timelines or whatever included . However still definitely think that Baz "s reasons and justification for tendering his resignation and basically spitting the dummy in the process was on pretty flimsy and weak grounds and more excuse and blame game related with the way the team was going at that stage and some of his questionable coaching practices and tactics Again taking into account that behind the scenes , other personal were still conducting normal and necessary player negotiation and retention , recruiting and other normal activities with or with out Baz "s input .. Club training amenities and facilities hardly a reason for complaint also accordingly . Anyway , really can not give too much concession on this subject and am just about done on the matter but will certainly concede that you are more entertaining and colorful and persuasive then i will most likely ever be on this site . Also concede that you would be a natural and quite persuasive as an advocate for any organization , political spin doctor or defence lawyer but would qualify that complimentary gesture by also suggesting that you are or would not always be right with your opinions

Well he's going and let's all just agree that what ever our view on Barrett's coaching ability are we should
  • Thank him for his effort
  • Wish him well for the future

There were a lot of issues and mistakes by a lot of different people that led to where we finished last season and the current state of the club. We are at rock bottom and whatever has happened/who was responsible at least that there may be things happening to get this club back on some kind of positive track.

I was against Des before but this club is completely broken on all fronts and of the available coaches he has the most runs on the board and however bad the split was deep down he is Manly and he also has a point to prove. Neither Des or Penn will come out and admit errors but i don't care as moving forward towards a united goal is all that matters now.

As for TB it was clear he wanted more support from the club, which is fair enough but tbh the timing of the resignation was only given for one reason and that was because he had an offer elsewhere and wanted to force the clubs hand. The more this has played out the worse it makes TB look and has set his first grade coaching aspirations back 5-10 years, if that's what he wants after what he experienced till now.
