Game day V Sharks

Watched the game on NRL .COM as it is a quite night here at work . Our biggest weakness last season was our defence and last season we lost to the Sharks by 3 tries as compared to 1 try tonight . So Des is on the right track. The replay clearly showed Walker grounding the ball over the try line before being pulled over the touch line by Morris , so we were very unlucky there . Under Trent Taufua and Parker could not catch a ball and tonight they did not make any errors which was great to see .

Jorge actually looked OK under the high ball last night which given the conditions is a good sign. I'm guessing its something they have been working on.

A lot of people on Facebook were complaining that Parker was even on the field, but for mine he didn't put a foot wrong when he was on in the first half. He ran the ball well and defended well. For all of Parker's bad points, I will admit that he does go better in the centres than he does on the wing. Oh, and for all you who want him moved to the back row, he packed in there alongside Jake during the first scrum of the game @:p

I think Walks was called back for a forward pass, though none of the passes leading to the try were even close to being forward. But no way was he in touch before scoring.

Last night did show one thing, outside of our best 17 we just don't have a lot of quality in depth right now. But then, we knew that anyway didn't we.

Great to see that our injury prevention and fitness regimes are on a par with last year. 1 meaningless half hearted trial and 3 serious injuries to 3 top 17 players. Wonderful start plus the new ministry of defense concedes 28 pts to a Shatks 2nd string outfit. Definitely looking up then :tmi:

Other than the two tries from intercepts, we basically dominated possession and field position in the first half last night. Sure the Sharks didn't have the likes of Johnson, Moylan, Dugan, Gallen etc, but our defence was keeping them in their own half fairly easily.

When competition points are on the line, I can't see us turning down gift 2 point penalties in front of the posts like we did in that first half last night. I think it was more about getting combinations going with the ball in hand against an actual opposition than it was about kicking easy penalty goals

I thought, intercepts aside, that we looked at least somewhat sharp in the first half with most of our first choice players on the field.

The second half when most of the bench was on was hard to judge. Not only did the stream turn from 1080 to 144 quality making it hard to see much of anything, but whenever we had the ball the commentator was more going on about the other NRL trials than he was naming who had the ball in hand (though he went into full description mode whenever the Sharks had the ball). All I could really make out was that Elgey was at half, Cade Cust seemed to be at dummy half for the most part, Lloyd Perrett was in the front row and Jade Anderson was on the wing.

I didn't mind the game so much. It was nice to see Manly running around again. Didn't get to see who was who in the second half due to the blurriness of the stream.

Just real disappointed in the injuries. At the moment my 'ice' hockey team has 20 million in salary sitting on the sidelines in injuries, and now these Manly ones; it's just so frustrating as a fan to be denied of your teams best shot of winning.

I get that it's worse for the players (duh).

Thankfully the Toronto wolfpack keep on winning!

I tell you what some of you blokes are going to make this a long season . Have fukhing faith and get behind them instead of riding them into the dirt . Not having a go at you personally mate .
So pretend all is well , and roses when it's not to appease you and others who just think everything magically changes because Des is here?

Constantly reading the dribble on here about Des having this player or that player "up his sleeve", that he knows "what he's doing, so it will be fantastic", and the team (which is basically the same team as last season, plus more reserve graders, less some proven first graders), will be so much different is laughable.

For the record, everyone who told me Des has a player up his sleeve were 100% wrong. I think you were suggesting players were coming in, too mate.

How old are we all? Jesus.

Facts are facts. Our depth is crap. That was shown last night. Our team has players in it habitually injured. We have unfit, lazy players on the team.

Took some of the players about 2 hours after the game loss last night before they were back on Instagram with their bongs and alcohol, up until all hours of the morning (I see rehabing is important).

Some of us are realists, and see this season for what it will be. Not too far removed from last. I felt some players like Perrett and Gosiewski looked well overweight. A building year.

The top team had 18-20 odd points scored against them last night against a 4th string Sharks team, so I saw no improved defensive structures. That was before the second half player swap.

That said, I agree, there's no point coming here after our losses and venting. We need to just act like everything is sweet and pretty. Des is here, and that's all that appears to matter.

Your a joke if you honesty take a trial match seriously. They are a hit out that's all . Des Hasler will change us and already has , listen to the players talk about him they want to stay and be around him . If you don't like it fukh off to the kennell.

Brad you are dead right in the fact that trials mean little in a playing sense. No point putting much importance to the game. In fact I saw quite a few encouraging signs, especially Garrick and Fainu.

But anyone who thinks those injuries last night are not important is kidding themselves. Ryan is correct in the fact that our depth is woeful and that will be Barrett’s legacy till Des gets players he wants.

We are a side who ran 15th last year and look like having six top 17 standard players missing round 1( TT Walker Paseka Tanginoa Korisau and Hopoate). After last year our boys need to start well to get their confidence up.We simply cannot afford to start badly.

Am I worried. You bet I am. A roster like ours simply can’t handle having top players sidelined.

I'm not talking about one trial. I'm talking overall. But tell me to **** off, and call me a joke all you like you angry little man.

This is the reason I don't post here anymore. These feral types of attacks. I'm sorry I have an opinion, that's different to yours.

This is a process Brad. It doesn't magically just change. Everyone is suggesting Barrett destroyed the place. What a farce. We need to build.

I'm not sure what to say if you can't see that. I'm sure it will be verbose abuse, name calling, belligerence, foul language, attacks, and telling long term fans and members to **** off.

Jesus dude.

Anyways, that's the final straw for me. Poster's ripping into long term fans and members. Brad can have what he wants. Have a great season guys. Remember, this is a process. It's not just gonna happen from game one. Des isn't a deity. He needs time. It's not going to be all roses from game one, like is being said by a few.

Call me an angry little man and I'll quite happily tell you the same again . Legend . Don't spin this around on me , all you do is be negative and say little about how we can become great again .

As I stated, again, is it's a process. Our depth is poor. Our backline is ordinary. Our defense won't just instantaneously be Rooster like. I'm not angry, I haven't attacked one poster like you have and are, so 100% this is ALL on you. No-one else. Everyone else debated the pro's and cons. No-one else told people to **** off, or that they are a joke. So yes, you are an angry little man, and the reason people & posters have left.

Negativity (I call it realism) doesn't attack, abuse or insult anyone Brad. Maybe you don't see the line between the two.

Yes sue agree ,trials are important that it's a bit out and we need to get through unscathed injuries etc but it's the same week in week out . Trials are a risk but we have to play them and all I was putting across was don't carry on like we lost an arm it's a hitout , not a regular match
