I've been posting for some years about the talk which mainly exists in the UK of merging league and union. It hardly gets a mention in Oz. But in the UK both league and Union are financially struggling. And participation wise are insignificant In Australia Union is financially struggling and player wise insignificant. League financially fine, but if you take the growth of girls playing the game out of the picture, the male participation of the game is in decline.

On a world stage league is a very isolated little pimple.

If Rugby 360 takes off and successfully puts the best in union and league on a Global stage and market.

The talk of merging the two to keep both alive might grow in Oz out of necessity.

Highly doubt this. League has zero to gain in Australia from merging.

If it happens Australia League would be the last to fall. So many variables.

Is there a risk of a Union and League merger in the old dart thou? Significantly more so than in Oz. But If that did ever happen in the UK, things could get interesting over here.

Might even be a big reason why the NRL is looking to buy Superleague.

Rugby 360 could be a flop or flourish. But it is further financial competition to Union and Superleague in the UK who are already struggling. That's the real risk for Oz League.

I suspect Rugby 360 is all about Broadcast $$ more so then bums on seats, to start with. Why have a team in the USA? Same reason NRL takes a game there. Audience exposure numbers, greater exposure, increases value of sponsorship $$ and Broadcast rights $$.

Think back to 90s it's hard to believe there is basically no such thing as one day cricket 30 years on. It was massive.

Broadcast deals, and an alternative format changed things pretty quickly.

Right now the odds might be against it.

We would be ignorant to say it can't happen in league.

Equally the NRL would be naive to not consider Rugby 360 presents as a risk.

Superleague all over again. Will last for a couple of years & go to $hit. Super Rugby is struggling & these guys think R360 is gonna survive? The number of players R360 will need to recruit is gonna be a big test! Anyway NRL will still survive!

I really think this R360 as far as viewer interest is concerned is going to be pretty much a lame duck competition and will be reliant on TV money to keep it afloat. One season I guess, 2, I don't think so.

Super League woes. Concerns the England government will withdraw 16million £ a year sponsorship due to SL lack of governance.

Discussions of a sale to the NRL have broken down.

RFL now looking to sell the SL competition to a private equity firm, and plan to expend the number of teams by 2 in the financially strapped comp, in the hope that it will increase sale price.

Quite a long ban for a league that v'landy said was 'laughable'...'cereal box' etc etc in a recent interview. Not worried at all he said.

So he covers it by not naming it specifically, but I guess it's no longer a laughing manner for v'landy anymore.

I don’t think the NRL would have legal grounds to stop players coming back.
Also if a few big names go and it all falls over nearly every club will be chasing those players.
It be hard for the NRL to to stop it.
