Game day V Sharks

Brad you are dead right in the fact that trials mean little in a playing sense. No point putting much importance to the game. In fact I saw quite a few encouraging signs, especially Garrick and Fainu.

But anyone who thinks those injuries last night are not important is kidding themselves. Ryan is correct in the fact that our depth is woeful and that will be Barrett’s legacy till Des gets players he wants.

We are a side who ran 15th last year and look like having six top 17 standard players missing round 1( TT Walker Paseka Tanginoa Korisau and Hopoate). After last year our boys need to start well to get their confidence up.We simply cannot afford to start badly.

Am I worried. You bet I am. A roster like ours simply can’t handle having top players sidelined.
Yes sue agree ,trials are important that it's a bit out and we need to get through unscathed injuries etc but it's the same week in week out . Trials are a risk but we have to play them and all I was putting across was don't carry on like we lost an arm it's a hitout , not a regular match

Call me an angry little man and I'll quite happily tell you the same again . Legend . Don't spin this around on me , all you do is be negative and say little about how we can become great again .

As I stated, again, is it's a process. Our depth is poor. Our backline is ordinary. Our defense won't just instantaneously be Rooster like. I'm not angry, I haven't attacked one poster like you have and are, so 100% this is ALL on you. No-one else. Everyone else debated the pro's and cons. No-one else told people to **** off, or that they are a joke. So yes, you are an angry little man, and the reason people & posters have left.

Negativity (I call it realism) doesn't attack, abuse or insult anyone Brad. Maybe you don't see the line between the two.

There were some good signs last night. And trials do need to be played. My point is that we just can’t catch a break. It is so dissappointing to start a season once again decimated by injuries. At our best I think we have potential to threaten the eight. But this roster is top heavy and if we run out on Leichhardt and against roosters without 6 of our best then write your own ticket. Normally dropping a couple of games early isn’t a killer blow but these boys need confidence after last year and a bad start can have lasting effects.

This is developing into keyboards at 10 paces.....

It was a freaking trial game guys. One saw it one way, the other saw it different. All they were doing out there was blowing out the cobwebs, they weren't playing for Grand Final glory.

Agree to disagree and go have a beer or two.

Perrett may be carrying a few kilos, but some props do play way better a little heavy.

I have to say Perrett was the surprise packet of the night in my eyes.

I thought his work rate was way up, his effort was there. I was mainly looking at his effort after making a tackle, to see what his fitness was like.

I didn't think he could have been any better.

With better opposition the speed will get quicker and that wasn't a great opposition granted.

But I thought Perrett couldn't have done more then what he did tonight.

Perhaps I missed some things and need to watch it again?

Mate, I have seen Perrett play some great games.. . my problem is I have never seen him play two in a row ...

Lol

In all the arguements, with all the Numbnuts, over all the years .. I have never once told anyone to **** off .....

and @brad .. I must admit it is very unlike you ...

So pretend all is well , and roses when it's not to appease you and others who just think everything magically changes because Des is here?

Constantly reading the dribble on here about Des having this player or that player "up his sleeve", that he knows "what he's doing, so it will be fantastic", and the team (which is basically the same team as last season, plus more reserve graders, less some proven first graders), will be so much different is laughable.

For the record, everyone who told me Des has a player up his sleeve were 100% wrong. I think you were suggesting players were coming in, too mate.

How old are we all? Jesus.

Facts are facts. Our depth is crap. That was shown last night. Our team has players in it habitually injured. We have unfit, lazy players on the team.

Took some of the players about 2 hours after the game loss last night before they were back on Instagram with their bongs and alcohol, up until all hours of the morning (I see rehabing is important).

Some of us are realists, and see this season for what it will be. Not too far removed from last. I felt some players like Perrett and Gosiewski looked well overweight. A building year.

The top team had 18-20 odd points scored against them last night against a 4th string Sharks team, so I saw no improved defensive structures. That was before the second half player swap.

That said, I agree, there's no point coming here after our losses and venting. We need to just act like everything is sweet and pretty. Des is here, and that's all that appears to matter.

I have to say Ryan, I see your posts year in, year out over many seasons, but of late you have gone to all depths of depression with your negitive appraisals. Hey, everyone is entitled to their opinions here, but it's a long off season after some horriible efforts last couple of years, some of us are just looking for some positive signs for this year. I think we saw that last night, so pretty happy with things as they stand today. Also hearing Turbo is not as bad as reported, so hope that's the case. Besides, it was a trial ffs...

Throw all your toys out of the cot if you wish, I'm just going to close the door. You are becoming more predictable than a Bozo recruitment drive, difference being at least his has a positive spin about them.

We always said Des would need time Ryan. It will take a couple of years for him to get close to the roster he wants. What we want is an improvement this year despite our depth still being an issue.

It is you that came on here all doom and gloom, telling us the way it will be....After a trial game.?? Let’s see how things are looking after rounds 7 to 10 hey, hopefully we see improvement on last years in effort.

I am so glad we changed from Brookvale oval where the rugby lads had zero injuries to play at Shark park where we had 3 injuries.
Brookie oval looked fine in the rugby mstch.
Karma?

Don't really think the depth is Barretts legacy - he walked into Jono Wright on decent coin for 3 years, Matt Wright on good coin for 3 years, Nate Myles on huge coin and Stewart/Matai on paid retirement (thanks to Da$ler's back ended contracts) so had to squeeze anything and everything out of what was left.

Seems to me that there is a lot of panicking over losing and a couple of injuries.

What we were looking for was improvement and I think there was enough of that to build some confidence. What were the areas we were so upset with last year

1. Lack of commitment and letting the other side roll us. This didn't happen in the trial. We may have lost but the team remained competitive and that is what we are after
2. Speed out wide. It seems Garrick, Anderson and Elliott have answered that problem. Sure Anderson wont be available for first grade until later in the year, but with Fast Albert yet to show his wares, our concerns are being resolved in this area
3. Fitness. As mentioned Suli and Jake have trimmed down and overall the team looks in better shape
4. Taufua's catching. Seems he's been working on this all off season and he is also fitter.
5. Fainu. Developing his skills well in Api's absence
6. Loss of Lane. Always thought Sirro would handle that role and probably be better at it. He's looking ready.

Its worrying to see TT injured and Elgey is still a work in progress. It may turn out that Cust may grab the 5/8 role if Elgey doesn't fit. But Manly weren't there to win the game, but rather get some match practice, work on that defence structure, see who fits best in certain positions, develop combinations, test strategies. These guys were never going out there in top gear. Its a trial and getting match fitness before hitting top gear is essential to avoid injuries. It was an encouraging start but most importantly Des is addressing the problem areas. It will take time. We wont win this years comp. The aim is to be competitive and move up the table. There's a lot of work yet to be done before this team aspires as a serious contender.

Some of the sour yoghurt cannons on here would have you believe the entire season is over after 1 average trial game. Absolutely irrefutable proof that the Des and Donny experiment is over.

Bring back Barrett and Ferris! #dreamteam

I’ve read on that absolute bastion of information ( Facebook) that Tommy might be out 4-6 weeks, if so who will play fullback???
