Rusty no offence but you're a newcomer here and have no idea how much of a knob Byso is.

My comment was tongue in cheek, hence the smilie (Fro Help! How do I spell this?), I wasn't actually lecturing anyone.

Elections are tense, as are football forums - doesn't bother me.

hahahaha, Limit boats to 3 per year

Shows how arrogant, deluded and clueless he really is.

Gee after several weeks of being nice to each other it's election eve and the knives are out.

I think the two major parties are so close these days (and both smack in the middle of left and right) that it really doesn't matter, but the 'Red Necks' here are the Greens.

Anyone reading this and thinking they are so pissed off with the majors that they'll give the Green a go PLEASE take the time to go to their website and check out their wacky policies...there are some absolute doozies there.

They are VERY dangerous and with power in their hands (which may well happen) they will be a frightening force.

If they were just "save the whales and the Rhino's" (which is what most uninformed people think) then go for your life....BUT as I said earlier in this thread the looney tunes from both sides of Parliament have headed there after their party entered "middle ground"....and fair dinkum some of their stuff is just plain scary.

So good voting everyone, make an informed choice, don't do a Mark Latham and may the best man win (oops or woman)

Winging it
There are two main streams in Oz politics:
1. Those who think money is all important and the main driver in life - vote Liberal/Nationals
2. Those who think that a balanced society is all important - vote Labor.

The argument for Libs/Nats is that Labor has zero credibility for balancing a budget and that we risk the entire economy and individual wealth by voting Labor.

For Labor is that they will defend the rights of the underpriveleged and general struggling families.

The truth lies, as always, somewhere in-between.

In this presidential style election we have two leaders. One that has a history of mysogeny (yes, look it up) and used bully-boy tactics through-out Uni and beyond, and the other who has far-left leanings bordering on extreme socialism.

Is Labor socialist? - the answer is no. The middle area of the party ensures that a reasonable level of governance results in the best results overall for most Australians.

If you have huge amounts of wealth and you don't want to risk it then Abbott (and his Howard leaning thinking) is the man for you.

In reality there is not much between the two. Do you have a social conscience? - vote Labor. If you look at society and only want want what you can get out of it for you - vote Lib/Nats.

It looks like it will be close. One thing that sticks out for me is how well Labor guided this country through the GFC. How could Labor have stuffed it up? - oh so easily but they didn't. On those grounds alone they deserve another term.

Think carefully about how you want Australia to head. Is it one dedicated to the big end of town and their corporate greed, or one that looks closely at the need of all the citizens. I have made up my mind - the rest is up to you.

I think (as I said at the start) Joolia Foolia will win with a greatly reduced majority, I'd say maybe as low as 2-5 seats, or it could even be 1-2 seats (although doubt it will be that tight).

And that should set up the Opposition for a gung ho go in 2013.

I saw Howard interviewed (very briefly as he was heading out for his morning walk) this morning and he praised Abbott for bringing the LNP "back from the dead", he didn't say "this will be an historic victory" and you can bet he'd have all the inside goss....sp probably knows they will come up a few seats short.

Not sure it will be Abbott next time around, have a feeling this was his one shot.

One things for sure, if Labor win this time they won't next...it usually takes them no more than two terms to completly **** things up.

And as I have said time and again in this thread....the punters are not hurting enough to change....in another three years they will be!!

Happy voting everyone.

In my view if labor wins this time they will win and win well next time - they wont have two state governments dragging them down - they will be gone by then, and all else being equal they will have delivered on some of their big ideas by then.  They have to sneak home tonight first of all though.

Oh well we'll just have to disagree again Gronk (on the one three years from now)....but I suppose Joolia Foolia may not be there in 3 years time (even if she wins tonight).

I have a mate who claims to have a bit of "inside knowledge" into the faceless men of the Labor Party and he tells me the "knives are already out"...if she loses she's gone and if she wins by 1 seat they'll also consider it a disaster and she won't last more than n12-18 months as leader as a result.....what's the bet Waynie Poo Swan is the next leader.

One thing they won't do is wait until 2 months before an election to do the stabbing.

Had she won by a country mile she'd be safe, but she's "almost" it (and still could" and that means political death to that party.

Aren't you pleased you are not as politician

As much as NSW Labor is on the nose, Barry O'Farrell and his opposition are not much better than previous Liberals in the state.

I am sure we will get a much overdue change in NSW but it may not be the bloodbath people are predicting.

Another case (just like Howard was an example) of its time for a change.

That's what Politics in Australia have become BD "it's time for a change"....I think boths sides are right in the middle today and as MB said above there's not a "bee's dick" between them, so it's largely when the punters have the ****s with one lot "it's time" to turf them out and give the others a go.

That won't be the case tonight......just!

I will be at work tonight, but wish I was at home.... I have the whole thing set up to get booth by booth results and think I would be able to call before the TV stations.

Not a re run, but it will be very hard for either side to govern without a clear majority of power.

It wont take long for the government to run into problems relying on Independents to tow a party line that they may not believe in.

I reckon we will probably vote again within 12 months.

depending on what happens there may be another election or there may be a double dissolution.

double dissolution will be crazy as the senate will be filled with a ****load of minor parties and an even bigger amount of greens as its a lot more representative of the actual votes people are casting.
