Des-Penn-Buzz

I'd also like to add, that Penn is a fkwit.
Always has been, presumably always will be.

You call for respect for Penn ? That nonce showed zero respect to our previous owner in Delmege, and not much more for the URM guys......or Toovey for that matter.

Penn has always been in it for Penn.
Mr Penn , Max and Toovey are Great Manly contributors and Great Manly icons

Any one that uses derogatory insults on them does them selves a disservice

Since Mr Penn took over our club won a Grand final in 2011
Since Mr Penn took over we made the Grand final in 2013 and were very unlucky not to win it
Since Mr Penn took over we made numerous finals appearances
Since Mr penn took over our club sustained economic hard times like covid times were there was no game revenue
Since Mr Penn too over our financial future is secure
Since My Penn took over we secured the greatest talent in the game Tom , and other Elite players .
The fact is we have a competitive team and the other fact is Des and the players are underachieving and Mr Penn is NOT responsible for this .

We constantly bend over and take it with player suspensions, refereeing farces, we never fight match review penalties. We never hear from the ivory tower except now when he wants to grandstand himself. So when someone finally speaks out he comes in to try to preserve the hip pocket. I fear the future will just be more years of mid to low table mediocrity until we get committed ownership and leadership.
Will give Penn his due for being fairly pro active and trying to improve matters after that forgetful 2018 season when the club really was in the doldrums performance and coaching wise and improvements for Brookie . And still stumping up the cash for some regular operating shortfalls though realize that there is always conjecture on that point also . Interesting that the Penns are just the majority club shareholder at 68 % but no doubt still have the most say in club direction but really should have considered his "Say " on this matter a bit more carefully .

What a great Attitude you have @manly al .
A great attitude start with a gratitude

Guess that with most larger sporting organizations there is always the good , bad and ugly . The more successful somehow find more of a way with the good [ or something similar in true Bozo parlance ]

NRL 2022: Manly issue final warning to Des Hasler over ref criticism

Manly coach Des Hasler copped yet another fine from the NRL this week and club chairman Scott Penn has put his foot down.

Manly has warned veteran coach Des Hasler about any future criticism of referees in the wake of his $25,000 fine from the NRL.
It is the fifth time Hasler has been fined for criticising match officials since 2007.
Manly chairman Scott Penn spoke to Hasler about the situation on Friday.

“It was heat of the moment and super disappointing to lose like we did,” Penn said.

“But you can’t bag the refs and we all know that.

“I’ve spoken to Des and he understands. It’s the final time we want to be having this conversation.

“You’ve got to bite your tongue. Deal with it in-house and then internally with the NRL.”

Penn admits that his club overstepped the mark.

They were smashed 9-2 in the penalties and didn’t get a set restart.

“What Des said was overstepping a little bit,” Penn said.

“If it had stopped there, we may have got a slap on the wrist but then Josh (Aloiai) spoke at training and took it to the next level.

“I appreciate the passion but we can’t say those things in the media.

“We’ve got to prosecute our case behind closed doors with the NRL.

“We’re not proud of it and it’s not appropriate to bag referees publicly. The game has to protect its officials.
The comments are ok, what is the big deal?

I said last week that I didn't think Josh's comments were helpful at all. They pretty much escalated Des' comments with much less tact, when there was no need to.

Without that, I'm not sure that Des/Manly get the $25k fine by association and then we avoid this kind of situation... when we should really be focused on winning more games of football
Josh’s comments were awesome, but they were always going to attract a fine for manly.

Don't care what is important is that the referees were put under the spotlight for a change instead of their growing incompetence being swept under the carpet. It is also like faulty towers and PV is Bazil and Buzz is Major Gowan.

Maybe we can start fining our players for taking the wrong option ,dropping balls , missing tackles and not making enough running meters

Maybe if we start taking more accountabilty of our poor plays we can start to own them and learn from them and learn how to win more games

You missed a heap of things BOZO, if we want to make lists.

Arseholed Toovey due to politics
Dirty war with Delmege
Made gazillions off the LC sale (then cries poor when $ injections are needed)
Refused URM offer to buy him out
Refused other offers to buy him out
Demanded his name on the COE door
Won't entertain the idea of an NRLW team
Gifts Brisbane another home game every season

Etc, etc, etc.

And just to do myself another disservice......yes I think Scott Penn is an A grade wanker.

Interesting what you say there. If Turbo had blown another gasket last year ,which means we wouldn't have made the 8, would they have arseholed Des in 21 ?

Yep pretty easy to blame everyone else I would have more respect if Aloiai came out and said I have been a dud buy I apologise for my sub standard play. Also if Des said the game has passed me by and I apologise for pickling Taufua in first grade than I would listen to the complaints.

As a club we don't seem to have mirrors our first response is to blame others rather than improve the club.

I don't know that there is too much to see here or how you'd prefer the club as an entity deal with it.

Abdo was straight in the media saying what sort of example is DES and Manly setting for the kids and Suburban refs. Now the NRL have handed down a fine.

Scotty's just doing the right thing by the NRL acknowledging the club over stepped the mark, he's spoken to DES and it won't happen again.

Not sure it's worth reading too much into. I think the club's got bigger issues to resolve. But how the boys are being coached is one of them so...

Sounds like Des and Penn still arent the best of friends

In all seriousness, someone could write a thesis (might do it myself) on how so many powerful ‘rugba’ league clubs go into let’s call it ‘elegant decline’ after a very influential central figure in the organisation moves elsewhere, retires, or dies.

St George: Frank Facer;
Canterbury-Bankstown: Peter Moore;
Canberra: Les and son John McIntyre;
Brisbane: Wayne Bennett; and
Manly-Warringah: Ken Arthurson.

Beware Sydney Roosters, you could be next.
