Channel Nine axe The Footy Show after 24 years on air

Yeah for sure and a few other things like the grassroots footage they'd show each week, times where they'd go out to a local club that's struggling and do it up etc

Plenty of stories where sick or disabled children got their dream day out at the footy with some of their heroes.

Plenty of talk about how there was zero league content, some of the most powerful league stories I've seen have been on that show, recent memory being the Fifita interview, the investigation into why young footy players are committing suicide, the interview with the family of the guy that died in a game in Queensland after a high tackle to name a few

The show wasn't perfect, but the "I didn't watch it so great that's it's gone" take on things is extremely short sighted. Losing things like the Footy Show and Rugby League Week is less of a presence in the market

I haven't watched it this year but I enjoyed it last year. They had some good pieces on there.. i remember the Blake Austin one where he coached those kids stuff like that is good insight and will be missed as will small talk with big marn. Lol kids say the darnedest things

Comment: I come to praise Fatty, not to bury him

Since the news broke that Paul ‘Fatty’ Vautin has got the flick from Channel Nine’s Footy Show in 2018, there have been a lot of people wishing him good riddance. Celebrating his downfall even.

It’s true that – just like Bart Simpson’s “I didn’t do it” fame – the mass audience Vautin charmed so well with his head wobble and catch phrases like “turn it up” and “I’ll get back to you shortly” have long since cooled on him.

However, while the end of his long reign is probably overdue, let’s not forget what an ornament to rugby league and the game’s media Vautin has been.

Those who simply wish to engage in our national sport of maligning tall poppies and celebrating when they fall need to bear in mind that his achievements are many and very impressive.

In 1979, he was brought to Manly from Brisbane Wests. He went on to play 204 games for his beloved Sea Eagles, including the 1982 and 1983 grand final losses to Parramatta and – of course – captaining them to the 1987 premiership.

I think Fatty did pretty well early on in the Footy Show history, then it became ****ing stupid, and instead of changing the format they made it even more ****ing stupid.

Old footy players doing dumb as **** things.

The Chief saw the light and left, Fatty would have done well to do the same.

Look, I appreciate Erin, Lara and Vonnie actually do know their footy, the others on Fox come from other sports backgrounds, so it’s not all about looks BUT........

Hannah Hollis irritates me the most. Whenever she is on any Fox league segment with ex players she tries really really hard to sound insightful and knowledgeable, more often than not offering a viewpoint that flies in the face of what the ex players are saying and ends up sounding stupid. Also she’s constantly on edge looking for any chance to hijack the conversation. Chris Lawrence’s sister sh2ts me no end as well. Oh for the days of the Moose! Now old Rex called a spade a spade, and was openly biased to all things concerning Manly.

You have to see the irony ...................Moose was the king of Rugby League media for oh so many years and loved all things Manly and wasn't shy about it..........

Now pretty much every f***ing commentator and media person out there hates the f*** out of Manly .......................

I think Fatty would have been gone long ago had he not suffered that workplace injury a few years back. I think they kept him on as compensation payout.

Channel 9 has been irrelevant for a few years as far as RL is concerned in my house, now that Fox have every game live there is no sane reason to watch anything on FTA.

I get more footy news and footy views here on the Silvertail forum and all on here don't have to dress up like drag queens to be funny either .

What ****s me is that these women must realise the degree of tokenism involved - surely they don't honestly believe they are more qualified than any number of males to be compering/commentating on league shows, but they lap up the spot light regardless. And I really dont understand the attraction with erin molan - I guess someone thinks she must offer girl next door appeal to someone, but its lost on me.

Erin knows a bit about footy I personally don’t think she’s a stunner , but that’s why she’s there, others obviously think differently.

It’s also why Fox have so many of them.

It’s to fit in with our over the top PC World.

Actually I don’t mind Erin, Lara or Yvonne commenting , all 3 are footy tragics, and let’s face it half of the fans these days are in fact females!!

So those 3 I think are worthy of their roles and good on them for being there.

BUT

The other blonde chick on Fox ( who is the one they use for Motorsport) is a waste of space ( looks great though) and the other one ( sorry I’m not going to be very PC here and I apologise to anyone offended) well she’s your token indigenous girl , who knows the least of the lot ( apparently likes AFL as she comes from Darwin or somewhere up there).

I’ve got nothing against the ladies fronting the shows but for goodness sake give us ones that know what they are talking about not just sexy blondes and tokens.

PAUL Vautin has broken his silence following yesterday’s revelations he was being axed from Nine’s NRL Footy Show after 23 years on the set. The man nicknamed Fatty Vautin responded to a message from WSFM’s Brendan Jones this morning. Vautin is currently on a family holiday in the US. Jones said he had reached out to Vautin last night after hearing Nine were ditching him in favour of having Erin Molan lead the network’s struggling NRL program . “In the end nothing lasts forever,” Vautin wrote to Jones. “I had a great run, especially for a short, chubby, red-head who played for both Manly and Queensland. “That’s not a career, that’s a miracle.” In a switch seen as raising the stakes in the fight with Fox Sports for female footy fans, Molan will be groomed as the replacement for Vautin, who will be restricted to Nine commentary box duties at live NRL games in 2018. Really, Fatty had a remarkable career. If you look at his comments he kind of thinks that too. I have never really watched much of the footy show, but I have always liked Fatty. His critics have death rider him for years and he has outlasted most of them including his most strident critic; the late Rebecca Wilson. After 23 years on TV he can reflect on a successful career. Even the Don Lane tonight show didn't last as long. Or Rove Mcmanus for that matter. Well done Fatty. Still remember 1987 with pride.

She's not too bright
She's not at all good looking
Her voice is as whiney as ****
And she knows very little about anything

So basically all the wives and girlfriends are happy for us to watch knowing there is zip all chance of any blood flow!

Just like many other areas of life, they are turning NRL into a PC-driven yawn fest. In an effort to attract the so-called female fan they continue to alienate the traditional/core audience. Lets have females commentators who know zip about the game, lets outlaw punching because mum won't let little johnny play blah blah. Meanwhile, audiences continue to plummet and sports like UFC, which are yet to succumb to PC driven rubbish, continue to flourish. Its only a matter of time before we have our first transexual player and players start "taking a knee" during the national anthem, to protest God knows what. You know I'm right.

Yep UFC is off the charts!!

And you only have to go to a pub with one of the big fights on to see where the League fans have gone.
