Bye Trent

I actually thought both Des and Tooves many times only used 3 subs or only 4 with the fourth one getting a few minutes at the end. I remember it used to drive me bonkers.

Maybe I'm mistaken about that with the ole fading memory?

When your team is performing to expectations , When your team is rolling along well and functioning on all cylinders there is less incentive to use your bench as there is when your team is losing and and needs an injection and some direction . When our team was heading south towards the spoon Trent had no other direction for them . He had no answers . This was clear to all that saw our mighty Manly culture fall .................... From Grace
The excuses to validate any worth of this imposter of a head coach is nothing else as preposterous.
He fell out with the Incomparable Immortal and even his mentor and supporter Gould has no place for him in his club.
The most underwhelming coach in the history of our club . Very Mediocre . Not Manly at all . Nothing Manly about Co Co boy .

Trent is still on the payroll and until then we should pay him the courtesy and keep paying him out in full !

Co Co Boy Coach ....
The moral of this story ?
With every bowl of Co Co Boy you need a wooden spoon to go with it

The fact our bench made least runs and metres didn't help our cause.
But some of that goes back to a couple of earlier key decisions by Barrett, so he painted himself into a corner in terms of bench options.
Examples: only one specialist hooker in the 2018 squad ... and bringing Hastings to the club.
By the time Api got hurt we were already sunk. Our bench by then was reduced to using back-up players out of position.
In hindsight it looks like Barrett pinned his hopes on Croker coming good at 5/8 and Hastings coming good as our back-up hooker.
Both were huge gambles, and both failed dismally very early in the season. From then on we were cactus.

Again the Punchies are suffering from short memory complex or bum pain brain dysfunction ...... I believe it was Dessie that kept Jamie Buhrer on the bench for 2 years, often only putting him on with 5 mins to go ..... and many times not at all .....

In fact Des often only used the full bench if necessary ......
Des used his bench players the same way in a lot of games he had a plan , Unfortunately I believe TB had no plan his bench was so inconsistent

I'm not sure how many times both @Woodsie and I have to repeat, that we aren't debating the quality of Trent Barrett's coaching here. We aren't debating his bench utilisation, defensive formations / structures, on field discipline, off field culture.

I can't speak on behalf of Woodsie, but the issue I have is that everyone ripped into him for asking for additional staff, improved infrastructure, improved amenities for our club and players. I'm pissed off that Penn / Gorman / Cleary "allegedly" promised a raft improvements (tangible and intangible promises) that went unfulfilled.

THEN, everyone's expectation, is that he should have "just got on with it".

As I said previously, if we were winning, in the top 6 last season (as well as the season before), he'd be getting everyone's support. I also love how all the experts just naturally "know" that he had another job lined up, so he was behind the scenes doing some sneaky work.

I hated Barrett's team selections. I hated his coaching staff selections. I hated the culture (and how he treated some players - even publicly). No-one is debating that.

But lets call a spade a spade. He wasn't given what was promised (according to him), the media have it perceived that we are a wet paper bag monetarily, and rightfully so. Trent wanted better conditions, and I applaud him for requesting, vocalising, then having the balls to stand up for the courage of his convictions.

Those Stats about metres from the bench are misleading, see below. As in my opinion Parra abused the HIA rules, hence why there bench players were on the field more & obviously making more metres.

And again ... my point very simply was that if your citeria for a coach includes using all the bench .... you may be disappointed with Des because he pioneered using the bench sparingly .... and simply used Buhrer as the classic example ..

This was of course greeted with the usual outrage of how dare I defend Barrett ..... although I hadn't ..... followed by the usual ... but yeah, Barrett can't coach .... which of course had nothing to do with my point .....

.... and you wonder why I worry about the mental health of the forum .....

EDIT ... and PSS .... I now have to add the inevitable ... you have an obsesssion accusation from the literacy challenged @Kevinward777 ....HEY Kev ..... I never mentioned Barrett .... (your apology and $5 for a beer can be forwarded to my PO Box)

Mate. There really is something a little disturbing about your obsession with Barrett... what aren’t you telling us Woodsie? There has to be something, because this has now gotten to the ridiculous stage.

Firstly .. You must of missed the 4oo hysterical and obsessional posts from the bum sore that the post you refer to was a response to ... perhaps your wisdom could also be imparted to them ...

Secondly .... In the post you refer to I never mentioned Barrett as I pointed out in a following post ... what is ridiculous is the automatic defence mechanism of attacking anybody who dares offer an alternate view to the collective ....

Thirdly your obsession with thinking I have an obsession .... whilst a little bit creepy .... is attractive on you .....

Woodsie mate... you have been like a dog with a farkin bone when it comes to Barrett for months now. If people want to rag on the guy... let them. What’s it matter? You will never change their opinion regarding Trent. Irrespective of how many times you want to say that his coaching/culture/standards have nothing to do with him wanting better facilities. Yes we get your point... but many people don’t give two sh1ts about any of that because they are focused on how terribly sh1t his coaching record has been.

All that is required for numbnutishness to exist ... is for good men to do nothing ....

Patronising someone for having a different opinion to yours does not add to our wonderful forum...
Agree,it is more likely to cause people to not bother commenting and detracts from the forum. Some just have a 2 barrel approach to comments....blindly put down or blindly agree, hard to have a serious discussion or debate with some......

I honestly thought what you said was very funny . It is like saying Lewis Brown has plenty to offer . How you take it its up to you . I dont do politically correct and always say it how I see it . What makes this forum wonderful is that we all have the opportunity to express our views .

Unless we agree with each other and have similar personalities and take things the same way we should not be on any forum . This will eliminate just about all of us . LOL

I am on your side in regards to what you think of the incompetent Barrett but lets not forget we and others have been like a dog with a frkin bone when it comes to making our comments and it is fair that Woodsie has his views whetther we like it or not . I say good on Woodsie for being passionate about his views . This is what this wonderful form is all about . Freedom of speech and expression !!!

I said nothing about having to agree,I said debate/discuss.
I said we all have the right to express our views on here and sometimes what we read is funny and that is part of our expression .
In forums one can make a statement , make a comment , express our views as well as start a debate

Croker was doing just fine at 5/8.

I feel Barrett had instructed him to keep it really really simple, but the game he got injured, he actually ran the ball a couple of times and looked good doing it.
A shame really, because I think he had a lot more to offer.
