Annesley's weakly "why this happened" report

Not sure why they think perenara getting ‘stood down’ is such a big deal. He will have a nice all expenses paid holiday in the koala sanctuary for the week and be straight back the week after. Standing him down for a week with no pay or a fine would be more like a punishment.
Or retiring the useless bastard would make more sense, I'm so over the NRL going into protection mode every time one of their boys stuffs up, fining coaches for speaking the truth is ridiculous and wouldn't be tolerated in any other sphere of society, particularly when their future employment is hanging on the actions of these inept officials, every club should confront the NRL and make it known they will no longer tolerate this ridiculous system of punishing anyone other than the morons responsible for the crisis in the first place

Unbelievable that Latrell Mitchell was not sent off, his tackle was as bad if not worse that Matterson on Parker.

The bunker totally got it wrong yet again and the perpetrator continues to make howlers that affect games. Perenara needs to be put out to pasture and get some competent people to adjudicate matters!
You would have thought the bloody on field officials would have reacted immediately and marched Mitchell, it's a bit of a joke that supposed 1st grade officials don't seem to have a clue as to how to react to an act of foul play even when it's taken place directly in front of them, it's mind boggling, even without Perenaras role why did the on-field morons fail to react, should be renamed NRI, no real idea!

I saw annesley's waffle went on for about 50 mins (!!!) so thanks to people here who posted some of the major points.

Remember a week or so ago when Annesley came out and told people to stop picking on the officials, and that the officials don't point out when the players make mistakes??

lol @ robinson for taking that to heart!

Ok....

While willing to admit when the Bunker has erred - as he did in saying Henry Perenara made the wrong call not to send off Latrell Mitchell on Friday night - Annesley is tired of exaggerated outrage over officiating.

- well... your definition of the bunker erring is, at times, rather different to the rest of the footy world, which is a problem in itself.

- Most of us are tired of the inconsistent rulings week to week. Just because you think it is exaggerated, doesn't mean it is.

"I'm not talking necessarily about coaches or anyone in particular, but words are bandied around like 'farcical' and 'ridiculous'. It's just not right. It's just so out of whack with what you actually see.

- waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh! Why won't people sit around sipping their Earl Grey and say 'Goodness gracious me, that decision seems a tad awkward'?

"That's the whole purpose of these [weekly media] briefings - it's really to say, 'Yeah, we got some things wrong'.

- It should be that you got them right, and we're wrong but lol at you guys "doing your job correctly".

"And it's also to say, 'Well, maybe people have gone off a bit half-cocked in some cases', and to put some balance back into it."

- Why would that be part of the briefing? To sit there and say nyah nyah nyah.... you guys got things wrong too.

The complex role of video officials encompasses much more than advising the on-field referee about which course of action to take."
"They're also monitoring audio, they're in some cases talking to directors, they're looking at multiple feeds of vision, they're instructing operators to give them multiple feeds," Annesley said.

- Then change the role? Surely there is someone in the bunker, looking at replays and then telling the ref what to do. Then, often, they're screwing it up. Also if they can't handle it, get.. them..the..out.

A week out from the finals, Annesley harbours concerns about players milking penalties in a range of situations.

- Finally, something we all agree on. Now, it's the role of the referees not to fall for it.

Have a great day!

Because it is orchestrated, that's why. There is probably a NRL rep of some sort in the bunker instructing the bunker official on what they want done. The on-field ref and linespersons are at the mercy of the bunker-instructing NRL paid conjuror. It was made patently clear that the NRL didn't want Latricia's image harmed in any way if they could get away with it.

its new ltd etc that are pushing the agendas. This is a reason why they are never the correct agendas. If the NRL stop chasing the news and started chasing the fans they would have a better product and relationship with those that purchase it

Wooden spooners getting robbed by manly is clickbait and annersly needs to be pro active , get on the front foot and start educating the footy fans due to the constant rule changes, interpretations and crackdowns instead of putting out clickbait spot fires
people seem to feel if there feelings are supported by mainstream media or ex players or commentaters that have links justifies they are correct. It rarely does. It happens here every week

Every week before the main games the refs explain rules, have a little vid sorted so they can explain the new game . But one suspects they prefer confusion

"t is a specialised role and whether it's me or it's anyone else, you can't just drag someone in off the street and drop them in that role. Because, A, the person that you drop in there wouldn't be qualified to undertake all those tasks - wouldn't know where to start. And, secondly, there's no guarantee that no matter who you put in that position they won't make errors of judgement either...."

I thought I was reading someone from NASA describing the complexity of the moon mission, but no, it's just about adjudicating on the simple sport we know as rugby league.

I'm waiting on an announcement from the NRL floating a joint arrangement with Tesla trialling an automated Bunker that eliminates human interaction.

Parra v Penrith game:

NRL head of football Graham Annesley fired up on Sunday in defence of the under fire match officials: “I thought the referee (Ashley Klein) and the bunker controlled one of the most intense games of the season extremely well”.

Annesley was adamant he was not dodging the controversy but giving match officials the respect of at least reviewing the match before making any judgments.

“If we are wrong I will be prepared to say we are wrong,” Annesley said.
“But I am just not prepared to say it yet.”

- And if you are, what happens? Nothing?

However, when told some of the calls were “howlers”, Annesley shot back: “We are kidding if we think that cost them the game”.

Told that sounded like a cop out, Annesley responded: “Well, it is not. It is the day after the game.

ugh...anyway:

Funnily enough Klein lost control of the Rabbits Roosters game the week prior.

I'm sensing a common denominator here.

Footballers??

Because surely its not the referee ... no, surely not. Klein is the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be.
