My apologies SeaEagleRock8, you are correct it seems the reform took place on 30 April 2018. It seems to be substituted with charge certification and case conferencing. Thanks for bringing that to light because I would have continued to be misguided.

Regarding the second point about bail, I suppose every practitioner has a different angle and different instructions from clients. My angle is if a client is incarcerated their most important asset is liberty, and a bail application will be assessed on the material posed before the application (the alleged charges should not constitute a direction on bail, unless of course there is a guilty plea or there are previous convictions of a similar nature).

The only benefit you get by remaining incarcerated is if you are found guilty, that time spent incarcerated will be deducted at the time of sentencing. For me personally, its a small risk for a huge reward (especially if the client has strong grounds to fight the charges he/she should not be there for even one day).

In other words, if all you have is a police facts sheet saying '3 witnesses saw the accused hit him with the knife' the court will say that is a strong case. At least when you get the actual evidence you might be able to point to weaknesses in the case. Ditto regarding the allegation Fainu is in some criminal gang, all the police have to say is 'we have evidence he is'. Could be total BS. Hence why for serious charges people are often advised not to apply for bail until they can get everything needed to make a strong application. This is especially so if going for Supreme Court bail because that is your last chance, and if you fail and you end up going to trial a year or more down the track that is a long time to sit in jail when you haven't even been convicted yet.

You have a way of brightening every party. I was expecting 2020 to be a breakout year for Fainu. One man’s disaster will, once again, prove to be another man’s opportunity. May be a way of getting Cust into the team in a starting position.

ps I think I'm older then Mark From Brisbane ..just (same year) although he had a harder life as he grow up in Moree. I was from the more refined town of Narrabri haha

What I find interesting is that this only appears to be in the sports news, at least from what I've seen online. Yet other like offences are general/breaking news. Does this mean the injury or event isn't significant enough, injury or crime wise, to appear beyond NRL news?
Also they have locked up this young man very quickly. Usually it takes quite a while to build a case against a person of interest because they need solid, indisputable evidence. That's why murderers and rapists walk around scott free for quite a while before they go down, but the coppers often know who the perp is from day one.
This is an intriguing situation.

Disappointing but not world ending for manly. Absolutely stupid of him, trying too hard to act tough, why bring a ****ing knife to church. Still glad we got rid of Api, he's good (inconsistently) but not good enough to direct a side to a premiership imo (unless he would've been happy to be bench dummy half for the rest of his career).

Both tough defenders that could suit our playing style
