I am a huge bio fan - just reread the malcolm x autobiography which was pretty good

I was the same but the stories in some fantasy books are so complex and so involved it's hard to put then down

Depends how experienced you are with them and how familiar you are with the characters

For instance wheel of time has some very strong and well defined characters with distinct personalities so reading becomes easier because it feels like you are hearing about a mate etc

It's a real commitment in time. It doesn't get really good until about book 4 or 5 but books 1 - 3 are still good bit more about character and plot development. By the last book so far it is incredible.

One criticism is that he kept introducing more characters and concepts when you thought he should be wrapping things up. However it is also a credit to his imagination and story telling ability. Had he not passed away he would still be adding more books.

Brandon Sanderson is completing the series for him and whilst not the sane does an incredible job.

I'd commit sbout 6 months to the series. The last book is due in November so now is a good time to start

Kindle 4 is on the way????

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/amazon/8492812/Amazon-Kindle-takes-on-Apple-iPad-as-new-tablet-set-for-summer-launch.html

mmm do I wait or jump in. Some more detail would be great.

i hope the price drops if they launch this thing, I dont want a ipad substitute, I have a laptop, a desktop and a workplace for browsing, emails and so forth.

I just want something to read a book on, and apart from a couple of asterix comics they are all black and white, the Kindle 3 is right down my alley.

So basically a kindle is a ipad that cant do anything but read books?
has to be asked but exactly what is the advantage between a kindle over an ipad? is it merely a lower price?

Oh btw,is there an MSPAD coming out anytime soon? or already on the market?

Shane read the first two pages.

An iPad etc is backlit and good for games, browsing the web etc.

The kindle has an eink screen is easy on the eyes in that respect and is designed specifically for reading books and designed as a replacement for them.

That is the cusp of it.

If they bring out colour eInk I would think about it but I want the kindle for reading books and I want my phone and laptop for browsing the web.

and battery life Shane, ipad lasts a day, kindle lasts a month.

and a 5th of the price or thereabouts.

its definately a targetted device but if its just a substitute for a book its your best option.

It's funny how 5 - 10 years ago everything was about combing products and now everything is going back to specialised items

The new Nook reads OK too

100% correct, I have mine purely for reading books NOTHING else....don't want games, don't want e-mail, don't want internet just want to be able to download and read books and not add to the truckloads of paper I chuck in the recylce bin ecah week.

And no wonder bookstores are doing it tough after having one for a month I doubt I'll ever buy a fiction book any other way.

I have kept my Hardcover Books, from my fav authors (usually given to me as birthday / christmas presents)...but all the paperbacks were just collecting dust....so in came the Kindle and out went the book!!
