Worst side Ever. Congratulations

Relax y'all. All a bit of fun banter.

We can all agree to disagree.

I still stand by my original post. The team deserved it.. they were very very poor. Some personnel changes..bit of Tom magic and a sprinkling of confidence has turned it around.

Nobody was right or wrong. Fact. We were ****. Fact. It's not the same 'worst side's with 5-6 different players. Fact. Criticised players improved and proved us wrong. Fact.

Think it's time everyone just respects each others opinions and we move on. We all want what's best for the club. Everyone shows it differently.

Finals time is coming. That's one thing we can all agree on

Whilst I agree Tom’s return changed many things I don’t think it changed everything.

Many of the players that ran out in rounds 1-4 , and the very many before that , were simply not performing and Des refused to change anything !!

Then we started getting injuries and his hand WAS forced.

And those players have really stepped up ( no need to mention them we all know who ).

Add to that the remarkable return of Turbo and you have a firing Manly.

So in my opinion it’s not all down to one person , rather a collective effort and the icing on the cake is that one person.
Have to agree with Mark here, not sure we were going to see much change without the injuries. Not sure what that says about Des, but geez, we were doing it tough the first four weeks.

Not going to comment on last year due to the factors others have pointed out with the suspension of the lower tiers, which, with Des being very reluctant to throw the lambs to the slaughter, definitely played a part in our performances. Personally, I don't mind that he errs on the side of caution when it comes to the young guys. In hindsight, I was happy to see a young Hopoate as it gave us a guide to where he was at, but was perplexed that we didn't get a sighting of Olakau'atu after his earlier performances. For me, I just figure I'm a numptie and those closer to the team know better than me.

Looking at this year, there was a distinct change in attitude for the Warriors game, not sure what, but at that point, we sure needed it. Happy to see that change and thoroughly enjoying the footy we are playing at the moment. If we can keep this up we have a real chance of giving this thing a huge shake.

Oh, and loved hearing the Manly chant yet again from an away ground. You guys back in OZ rock!!

It’s bizarre, isn’t it but I am starting to believe it is all Tom. Did you see him spray Paseka after a Parra break last weekend? “Fecking Work Harder”! He is the standard setter in the team, the one they all listen to and the one who they don’t want to let down.

Yeah but did you see what Paseka said in reply...

I'm.........................................................
on smoko! so leave me alone!

woowoowoowoowoowoowoowoooooooo

I think many people gloss over the complete **** show 2020 was. Covid, suspended comp, rule changes mid season, no fans at games, players bubbles the list goes on.

We didnt handle the situation well and the run of 12 was a outcome of this.

Towards the end of last year people going on about our up and in defence and how bad it was. So Des changes it for this year and it coincided with playing the top 3 teams in the comp.

We were never a spoon side. We were working our way out of a rough time.
We also lost like 5 games by 4pts or less I think. Still lost them tho.

I honestly think with our squad if Tom is in there DCE, Marty and Jake playin with sone form and obvious rapid emergence of Schu it doesn’t matter who’s in those other positions we would be competing and winning the way we are. I doubt if Harper, Guac n co were in from round 1 the results over those first 4 would have been different. The issue most (and me as well) had was Des apparent reluctance to make the changes when the guys weren’t performing. Looking at the form of sone of those guys now tho still in the team (Parker, croker, Garrick) perhaps that was a coaching master stroke to persist. I mean look at what’s happened with Kevvies management of the Milford situation and other guys up there. Shot for confidence as they know each time they go out the noose is firmly around their neck. I was pleading for Garrick to be axed in those early rounds. Happy he wasn’t now tho.

I think EVERYONE realizes his impact... but whilst he may inspire his teammates that does not provide any excuse for what our side served up against the dragqueens or in rounds 1-3...

Personally I think one of the other posters nailed it when they said that the passion being shown currently is reminiscent of the R1 Blacktown game which many of our change players were involved in...
The blacktown reference is drawing a long bow imo. Tgat side also got belted in consecutive games following the first match I recall. Dce finding sone form and The belief after the 1pt win over the warriors more so in terms of he passion and belief. I think they way we won that game over nz was exactly what the team needed to bring back some belief to the group. That win and then Toms return and hammering of the Titans could be the most important 2 week period for our club on a long time. Time will tell.

really good points mate. I guess we all come at this from slightly different angles.

Very possible. There were many many reasons we started the year so flat.

Thing is those that were blowing up delux and calling for half the team to be dropped, cut or sacked and moved on just wouldnt accept there was a good chance Des would turn it around.

The Illuminati can go on all they like about the final 12 games last year and the first 4 this season but in the end the coach and players turned it around without your help or support. I applaud all the negative Nancy's now for getting back on the bus and actually support a winning team.
You are mistaken the Eagles always have my support. Criticism of selections does not equate to a lack of support. We don’t have to accept **** sandwiches over a long period of time without complaint on the basis the chef knows how to cook.

But the chef does in fact know how to cook. He's proven as much over many seasons - he's proven it again this season.

Des Hasler said after round four - "We'll turn this around you'll see."

The chef was correct - this is fact.

The chef has coached in five grand finals.

I was so impressed by his spray that I thought, make him captain and make him captain now.

Agree .. but a thoughtful person would then be compelled to ponder what exactly is the use of paying big money for a coach and 29 other players, given that history shows they are impotent and only one player decides victory or disintegration ... what is the coach's function? ... 8 teams manage to win games every week ... and 7 of them don't have Tom playing for them ... they have 17 other players who manage just fine ...

If a Key Performance Indicator was applied for Manly "s overall performances for the first four games of this season and a good majority of games from mid last season , could only rank or rate at the lower end level . Can only suggest that it was a combination of reasons for the better or much better results and form level to then get six from seven wins . Hard to select the major reasons in general , confidence was certainly restored with the initial Warrriors win then really could be not so co incidental that the whole dynamic of the side changed with Tom"s return . The better structures in attack and defence and improved completion rates could not be attributed entirely to Tom return , that seemed more a coaching and composite team factor . Throw in Schuster"s creativity and some young gun 's timely inclusion and every thing seemed to change even more for the better . Just hope that there is no going back to those dismal and disappointing times with this current squad and coaching personal .

One final thing I’d say , is with hindsight everyone is an expert.

At the time we were ****.

Currently we are on fire.

BUT we might become **** again.

And we might finish top 4

Where we might lose.

Or go onto the grand final.

Which we might lose

Or , we might win.

No one is Nostradamus, we just ride the waves of emotion as they come.

Reasons for our turnaround;
Played 4 top 4 teams(at the time) in first 4 rounds.
Draw has softened up significantly since then.
Tom returning in career best form.
Schuster > Jetski
Harper > Suli
Guac > Sirro
Improved effort, attitude, confidence and cohesion, across the squad.

In short everyone is a little bit right and no one can claim they had all the answers 7 weeks ago.
