Where does Weekes fit in ?

I hope we can hold onto Weekes but Im not sure playing him as a super sub will benefit the team. I think using Walker that way sharpened our attack but dulled our defence and Im not sure we have a good enough pack to carry a 14 who's not a back up for Croker.

Maybe we could get away with it if
Lawton was in the 17 but he's not due back until mid season.

It's only a game ...
I'd select him in the centres with Koula. Otherwise, on the wing if Garrick is selected in the centres.

Of course, our selection prognostications at this stage mean even less than usual as we don't know how the new coaches will select teams.

I discriminate indiscriminately
If he plays then it will be wing, hooker or utility by the look of it... unless he is backing up for an injury...

Schu - guaranteed the 6
Garrick - guaranteed a centre
Tom - owns the 1
Cherry - owns the 7
Koula - has the other centre locked down
Saab - has one wing locked down
14 - might get a crack at it til Lawton comes back but has to vault past Harper and Parker

I think he is wasted on the wing so I am hoping he is on Schu's KFC 'diet' over the summer and can put Croker under pressure...

Weekes on the wing would be a tactical nightmare for Manly. If you think Saab has trouble gaining crucial yardage from our red zone, can you imagine a 90kg rookie who isn't accustomed to taking hit ups? He will be pinned down and carried back, out, smashed left right and centre. Garrick is almost 10kg heavier and is only just learning not how to get bulldozed at the back.

Agreed 100% we need to accommodate Weekes, but our wingers need to be physical specimens... a nuggety cannon ball like To'o, Taufua etc or a Sivo, Sua'alii type. Weekes should be in our spine 1, 6, 7, 9, or 13. Possibly centre but even that could be a defensive disaster as he is definitely a little weak in that department

I don't think it is necessary for wingers to have a physical prototype. Koula performed well on the wing and has a very similar build to Weekes. They both have speed, are very good under the high ball & can step their way through traffic. The main evasive skills of Saab & Garrick are speed & swerve and they tend to get caught in traffic.

There are several NRL wingers with similar frames to Koula & Weekes who regularly gain good metres on kick returns, mainly through speed & stepping, e.g. Addo-Carr (88 kg, 183 cm), Corey Thompson (91 kg, 178 cm), Taylan May (92 kg, 183 cm).

I would tend to select classier faster players on the wing over players whose main attribute is strength.

With his extreme speed, surely Ken Irvine (78 kg, 178 cm) would still nail down a wing spot in the modern era?

It has zero chance of happening but I would have our back 5 as
Weekes.
Koula.
Garrick.
Tom.
Saab.
As I said,no way it would happen, doubt Tom would be overly happy unless he could be convinced, but if he was a team player......

Any where in the back line.
And a pre-season at hooker would probably be great for development and open up an option perhaps too. I’ll suggest his best spot is fullback. But when you can ball play and have a good running game, and are quick enough. There is so many options. Absolutely could be made an elite centre.

Tighten up his defence. Perhaps just a fraction more involvement. But he’s a must keep. And if Garrick goes given he wants to play fullback. I don’t think Mestrov said Garrick wants to play centre. Weekes then our goal kicker. Play him on the wing if we have too. He’d do a job.

Quicker players on the wings are really better than stronger players. The cavalry has always been fast, and it has always performed well on the wings.

I hate to say it but Weekes will probably play fullback more times than Tom But hopefully not so I’ll say
Garrick may well be promised a chance at centre if he resigns but that may be in2024 I’d have Weekes in the centres
